As far as the metallics go, I think part of the problem is the camera I have doesn't really show metallics well, but I finally got a set of washes and I'm looking to try them out so I'll do some experimenting on the next one. I don't have any 40mm bases yet, and I'm not sure what theme I want to do them, so I won't base them till the squad is 8 strong I'm afraid. Feel free to borrow the white helmet idea. I am also mixing up some of the backpacks between white and red too. The newest one has a white backpack and I'll probably do one more in the squad with it as well. More to come!
