Thanks for the replies, much appreciated!!

I guess you are right Darth Potato, the Dread base really does show how much smaller the Epic stuff is!

Hopefully I’ll manage to start the Assault Marines soon, just as soon as a prise myself from Fallout 3 and N+... :P

Oh and Cypher 102, I will try to get a close up pic of the Plasma Gun soon, with a tutorial too! :(

Cheers

Steve

Looking good . Good crisp clean colours. Gotta like the old DA Master and good to see one still being used.

I'd say the bit that is least successful is the 'exhaust' stain on the Rhinos, it needs to be softer and sootier somehow [check the two images of the A-1H Skyraiders for the 'look'].

I have to say, these guys are amazing. actually they are what brought me over the DA/SW edge, after looking at so many awesome minis, it convinced me that this was the army to play. im thinking of having my robed marines robes in black however, as that seems like it would be much more in keeping to the DA mindset (in tribute to preheresy scheme, and pretty much every highish ranking dark angel focuses mainly on the past.

Yeah, I think I can see what you are getting at there Isiah, those are some sexy pictures, and they show off the exhaust stain rather well. I’m afraid I don’t really want to go back to already painted miniatures, but I will make sure to keep your advice in mind when I start my Space Wolf force... ;)

Ninjabat, I am humbled by your kind words, you are very generous and I am pleased that my work has inspired you. I think that the black robes would look very good if pulled of correctly!! ;)

Here is a picture I forget to post up with the last update, it’s the Plasma Cannon totting Marine that is replacing the Missile Launcher guy from 1st Tactical Squad.

Well, that’s all for the time being, I just hope I can get myself to paint the Assault Squad... :P

Cheers!

Hai people!! :D

It’s been a long long time (well, not that long), and after a long (and unexpected  ) break from the hobby I have returned!!

Er, yeah. Anyway, I just needed to take a break from the hobby in general, and gather my thoughts about carrying on at all. I decided why not...

To kick things off again, I have a taste of what is to come in the near future (hopefully).

Not much, I know, but hopefully it will get you lot interested again...

I am going to College soon (two weeks), and so don’t really know how ‘up-to-date’ this topic will be, thanks to obvious reasons...

Comments welcome! ^_^

Cheers

your Dark Angles look amazing nice job. i have all ways wanted a DA force as big as you are making i can't imagine all of those models that you haven't opened up yet...that has always been my dream...*thinking hum what model do i want to build today? oh! i know how about the 3 vindicators i'll save the predators for later* LOL XD

Trust me, that is not as nice at it seems. I look at all the boxes and models and go: How will I ever paint this much...

I have stuff like: 2x predators (Old versions) 2 Vindicators (new ones), Landraider, 4 rhino's, 2 Rayzorbacks and 3 dreads.

thats just vehicle stuff for the marines, I did not mention the termies, bikes, veterans, normal marines.

And then there's the whole unpainted Tyranid army, same forthe even bigger ork army...

Stull, I don't have to worry abot not having anything to paint :-D

Quick edit: something went wrong, and my text was doubled.

Hey everybody, how you all doin’?

To get this cleared up, this is not thread necromancy, or whatever its called, I am genuinely reviving this thread as I’m hopefully going to update it with new and finished squads of Dark Angel eye candy.

I’ve been out of the hobby for just about a year now, more important things have come to the fore, such as drinking, learning to drive, drinking while driving, and what the most destructive way of dismantling a tree with a chainsaw is (studying arbour).

Anyway, just thought I would come back to say hello, and tell all of you what’s what on the painting situation.

I’ve quit the gaming part of the hobby, Games Workshop has in my opinion screwed up the rules on several levels, and the prices are now of the charts…

I have decided to paint my remaining Dark Angels to the best of my ability, then keep them for display purposes, or even take up the mantle of the First Legion again, when better rules have been published…

So that’s the situation; the Assault Squad that you saw a glimpse of in previous pages is almost finished, with only touching up to do on 8 of the Marines. Photographs should make their way here within the week…

The support I received previously was most excellent, and very encouraging, just reading over this topic has filled me with vigour and determination to continue painting, so again, I would like to thank you all who have made the effort to comment upon my efforts of representing the honoured First Legion!!

Cheers!

Loz.

Hey again,

Thank you for your kind words Tomevans, to be honest its great to be back, and I look forward to seeing my models up upon the respected pages of the B&C again!

While I’m here though, I thought I might post up a step by step of how to paint Dark Angels armour, in my style, for any interested…

First of all, we need the tools to paint; I assume that anyone reading this already has his own set of half decent brushes so we can skip that bit. Next up though, are the paints required.

First and most obvious, Chaos Black, followed by Dark Angels Green (basecoat), then a half pot of Scorpion Green, mixed with another half pot of more Dark Angels Green, so a 50:50 ratio. This is your highlight. Now we need Dark Green Ink, which I don’t think Games Workshop produce anymore (I purchased 6 pots as soon as I heard this), but any Dark Green Ink should do, test them first though…

Ok, we have our paints, let’s get started! First of all we need to basecoat the entire model in Chaos Black, it’s up to you how you do it, but we need total coverage. After that’s dry, coat the entire model in Dark Angels Green, and don’t get this too thick, as it ruins the detail on your model. Two thin coats is a good idea, but time consuming.

When this has dried, whip out your Dark Green Ink equivalent, and liberally wash the entire model, head to toe. This is now going to have to be left for a long time, as the Ink obviously takes a while to dry.

When it has though, take the 50:50 mix of Scorpion Green and Dark Angels Green, and using a fine brush, highlight the edges of the miniature; legs, arms, shoulder pads, power pack, helmet ect. That should be the armour of your Dark Angel done!

It’s pretty simple really, but now it’s up to you to do the rest. I can provide a guide on how to paint the rest of the model if people require it…

I will say though to those who did not already know, that when applying the Boltgun Metal to any part of the figure, to then apply a Chaos Black wash over it, before highlighting with Mithril Silver, it gives a wonderful effect.

I hope this helps any budding Dark Angel players out there!

Cheers!

Loz.
