Hey Guys,

Okay, all is up and running again! Here's my latest duel-diorama, featuring the Deathwing Terminator pictured in the top of page 27 and a Dark Eldar Helion, swooping in for an attack. The base is from Basicks, in Poland, a company I haven't used before. However, their product was of prime quality and a pleasure to paint even if it was a bit expensive.

I love the dynamic possibilities with the Dark Eldar, especially the Helions and the ball sockets under their boards. The wild, raging look and pose compared to the stoic, wide stance of the Dark Angel Terminator creates an interesting combination and the colour contrasts also makes for a cool scene.

I've posted more pictures of the Helion, since the Terminator is shown on itself in the post mentioned above.

Have at it Gents :-)

@ Ratboy & Tankenstein: Thanks Guys - yes, I'm also rooting for the Terminator. Especially that righty, that's pulled back and ready to swing into a grisly greeting :-D

I finished the helmet for the Blood Angel Veteran, and here he is - much more balance in the model now in my opinion. I would have like to have had a more ornate Sanguiniary Guard face-mask, but the jetpack really limits the space.

Enjoy, and Happy Thanksgiving all.

How about you give him a MkIV/Sanguinary Guard Jump Pack?

I've thought about that, but I really like the sculpt of his current jump pack and the ornamentation on it (even though it's flawed Finecast!)

@ Anaziel, deathspectersgt7 & Reinhard: Thanks for your comments and praise Guys! :-)

Here for the weekend, I have my latest Ultramarine Veteran to show you. He's a mix of the Sternguard, Vanguard & Ravenwing boxes - I chose the least DA'ish powersword, since I didn't really fancy the one in the Vanguard box. I added an Iron Halo from the Commander box also for his backpack.

What I'm most pleased about is definitely the face! I'd rank it amongst my top 3 of all time. Also, the aggressive pose really suits the model I think.

Enjoy :-)

It's been a while since I commented here, but I have been following this thread.

Everything is fantastic, I especially love the red on your Blood Angels, but I have to say, the latest Ultramarine Veteran is particularly great. The face simply amazing.

Your work is truly inspirational.

Hey Guys, sorry for the late reply, but I spilled diet coke into my Macbook Air, so it's pretty much out of order now and shipped off to intensive care! :-(

So, I managed to jerry-rig my old Mac, which is slower than a turtle in reverse, but it'll have to do for now.

Thanks for all your kind comments guys! I'm glad you like my work.

Regarding my face recipe I tried to take a step-by step guide when painting my latest Ultramarine Veteran. I'll finish up adjusting and cropping the pictures soon, so that I can show you how I did it.

First off, here's my latest - also a very pissed and aggressive looking veteran. Hope you like him! He's on a temporary base, since I'm waiting for the postman to show up with a new batch of resin bases.

Cheers!

@ deathspectersgt7, Anaziel, Ludovic & Natanael: Thanks a bunch for your very kind words!

Update - I received my newest shipment of bases, and I'm in the process of painting some for my Ultramarine veterans so they'll be tied together thematically.

Also, I promised you a step by step guide to my face-recipe, so here goes:

I've posted this guide before - it's from White Dwarfs Space Hulk issue, and this is the recipe I follow for most of my marines, including the two Ultramarine Veterans above. However, I deviate a few steps, as I'll demonstrate in the following pictures.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/Scan_zps0fb3e44d.jpeg

Step one is as described in the above guide, a 1:1 mix of Tallarn Flesh & Caltan Brown, painted on in three thinned layers.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3749_zpsf802e0d3.jpg

Step two is also as in the guide - a heavy wash of very thinned Dark Flesh - if it's not thinned enough, you'll have trouble later on. I want control over the color!

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3750_zps52749523.jpg

In step three I deviate a bit from the guide, in that I re-paint with the color-mix from step one, to better control where I want the shade to be, and to break up the effect.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3751_zps82408ee3.jpg

Step four is another shade, but instead of thinned Scorched Brown, I use Ogryn Flesh - again for more control and a slightly less dramatic color.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3752_zps638bd2c5.jpg

Step five is as described in the guide - I begin the highlight process with a mix of 1:1:1 Tallarn Flesh, Dwarf Flesh & Bleached Bone.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3753_zps77c663af.jpg

The next thing in line is to add a bit more Bleached Bone into the mix for the following couple of layers, slowly building up color and control of the visual look you want to achieve.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3754_zps04d43044.jpg

In step seven, I've painted the teeth and eyes - always a tricky process and I want to get it done before I get to the last highlights and details, since this stage usually involves some correction with the colors and mixes used above.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3755_zps53456639.jpg

For step eight, pure, but thinned Bleached Bone was used to accentuate the places on the face where I want most focus.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3756_zpsc1fe0502.jpg

The ninth step involves going back to shading. I want to break up the very sharp colors of the highlights and tone them down a bit. So I use mainly thinned Ogryn Flesh, and the Dark Flesh wash from above to fine-tune the look.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3757_zpsa12e6705.jpg

For the tenth step, I add on a very select highlight of 1:1 mix of Bleached Bone and Skull White. Also, the lips get a thinned wash of red, and I shade around the eyes and nose with a blue wash, again to create depth, color and expression.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3758_zps9874446e.jpg

After this, the face is done. I paint the hair, with some controlled dry brushing of grey colors and the collar. After I've placed the head in place on the model, I go back with thinned Ogryn Flesh and my 1:1 mix of Bleached Bone and Skull White to see if there are any areas that need some final attention.

http://i1058.photobucket.com/albums/t410/vadskaer/IMG_3777_zps5b38e8cc.jpg

Voila, that's how I do it :-)

Cheers, and have a great weekend!
