Oh holy :cuss man did you have to do that? Did you have to shatter every last shred of confidence I ever had. By god, I don't think I'll ever recover from this sense of inadequacy you've thrust upon me.

As recompense, you must supply me with mini tips on how you achieved some of this wizardy. Like, how did you do that gorgeous gold, the window on the hatch, the checkers, the spade and other symbols, what colors did you use on the blue and so on.

Then maybe, once I can stop worshipping this blue God, I shall try see if I can absorb a fraction of it.

Oh man, I'm done. I'm just done.

Joking aside, that knight is just amazing (along with everything else!). The amount of detail on him is insane, and I am incredibly jealous of your skills.

Paint for the paint god! Plastic for his throne!

@ Anaziel, Reinhard, Ratboy1664, Olisredan, MrBear, Tarvik, KaosRaptor: Thanks a lot for your very kind words and comments - much appreciated :-)

Some of you asked questions regarding techniques - a lot of them are the same as I use across all of my other miniatures, just in a bigger scale.

The Gold recipe:

- Undercoat Chaos Black

- Basecoat 2 layers of Scorched Brown

- Layer 1:1 Scorched Brown & Shining Gold (2-3 thinned layers)

- Layer Shining Gold in as many layers as needed to get a solid, even, clean & clear gold coating (for the Knight, on the larger panels, this means 6-9 layers)

- Shade recesses with 1:1 Scorched Brown & Chaos Black (thinned down to a wash - do a couple of coats rather than one heavy - and ONLY in the recesses!)

- Shade with a sepia shade, such as Gryphonne Sepia

- Retouch as necessary with Shining Gold

- Highlight with 1:1 Shining Gold & Mithril Silver on the edges, 2-3 layers depending on ares + on rivets.

- Thin this mix down to a glaze/wash and lightly paint over all the gold areas excluding the shaded areas to give it a highly polished look

Final highlight of pure Mithril Silver on the rivets and on the most prominent edges & corners

The Hatch Window recipe

- Undercoat Chaos Black

- Basecoat Shadow Gray

- Wash with the green GW wash (Thraka Green in the old paint system)

- Recoat the main area with Shadow Gray

- Blend up with Shadow Gray and a touch of Astronomicon Gray - add a bit more as you go along and build up the color.

- Highlight with Astronomicon Gray (the reflection)

- Highlight with Space Wolves Gray (the reflection)

- Do the final cross-reflection with pure white along with the dot

- Layer 2-3 coats of gloss varnish

The chequers where done by painting the whole side of the shoulder-panel in first Ceramite White (build up a solid coat using several layers - i did around 4-5). Then layer on Screaming Skull in several thinned layers until you get a nice clean coat. After that, thin down Chaos Black and paint on the chequers in the shape and size you want, making sure to make them even and in the same size. Correct any mistakes and then block in with un-thinned Chaos Black. Shade the edges with sepia wash.

The Spade and other symbols are transfers from either the Imperial Knight or Baneblade sheet. To fix them, I first coat the area with gloss varnish, affix the transfer in the position I want, coat it again with gloss varnish and let it dry. Next step is to coat it in Matt varnish and then re-paint the whole bugger in the original colors used on the model.

This means, that for the red areas with the black eagle, all the red ares are re-painted with the red color and the transfer itself is painted over with black. This way you can't ever see it's a transfer.

Thats the process for all but the smallest transfers on the banner and such.

The Blue Armor recipe

- Undercoat Chaos Black

- Basecoat three layers of Necron Abyss

- Layer on three layers of Regal Blue

- Highlight with Ultramarines Blue

- Highlight with 1:1 Ultramarines Blue & Fenrisian Grey

- Final highlight of pure Space Wolves Grey on the most prominent edges and corners/rivets.

Now - get painting chaps! :-)

That blue would actually look really good for Ultramarines, so thanks for sharing your secret tongue.png And thank you for the gold recipe!

@ Anaziel: it's the same recipe I use for my older Ultramarines, including my UM Venerable Dread with the tyranid warrior stuck in the banner, posted several pages back :-)

Well, then I guess I will have to try it out sometime. When I start (or rather, re-start) my Ultramarines legion I will use your recipe. So thanks again :D

Hey Chaps,

Just a little update on my behalf. Since I finished the Imperial Knight, I've been busy painting up a squad of the new Tempestus Scions - and here's a progress picture of the legs and lower body all done.

There hasn't been much time for painting and honestly, after I finished the Knight it was nice to get some days away from the paint station.

I've wanted to try out some camo-scheme for some IG for a long time, and the Scions were a perfect opportunity - the mix of hard-hitter Special Forces combined with the baroque and 40k'ish style of armor was just perfect.

Enjoy!

@MrBear, Reinhard, Kierdale - thanks a lot mates, glad you like the camp scheme :-)

@1000heathens - thank you very much! I'm quite proud of it, and that I survived such a big project :-D

Okay, so here goes - the Tempestus Scions/Stormtroopers/Spec-Ops are FINALLY done! Exams, tests, work, summer holidays all conspired to keep me off track with these guys, but last evening I got them based and found a proud front row space in my cabinet.

They were a blast to paint, although it was a massive undertaking with so incredibly many details. Also, they were quite a bitch to assemble, especially the ones wielding hot-shot lasguns!

Right now I'm pondering what to paint next - it will probably be a single marine character!

Enjoy :-)

Hey Guys,

Been busy painting a lot these past few days - here's a progress pic of Asmodai of the finished body. I'm working on his right arm now :-)

@MosesGunn - thanks a bunch man, glad you like them :-)

Alright chaps, here he is: The meanest, angriest and bad-ass Interrogator Chaplain - Asmodai :-) Finally finished. The sculpt is fantastic, but oh boy Finecast is a miserable piece of crap to work with! So may flaws that I lost count - some of which you couldn't correct without scraping off some of the very brittle detail.

Not a pleasure to work with no Sir'e!

Enjoy - over and out :-)
