I have to say that when I see this army It reminds me on the sin of beauty....

Then it reminds me of the Eldar...

Then It reminds me that I want to Kill all the Eldar....

the artistic direction is very beautiful and I do enjoy the classic "Daemon Boobies"... gives it a sense of sadistic humor...

cheers all the way

I've also managed to get them all re-molded, and consolidated the million of so molds I had lying around into a few compact sprues. There also coming out pretty near flawless on the sprue. I'll post up some pictures of the head, weapon, arms, and accessory sprues, but for now here are the bodies.

  • 3 months later...

Okay, the daemons are back in progress.

Hmmm.... I may have changed my mind on the nurgling stand-ins. I'd seen these before but, had only ever seen them in Wyrd's uber dark color scheme.

They need a theme though... How about the being the spawn of daemonettes and human liaisons. Murderous little human/daemon hybrids for the win.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/WYR4005_500.jpg

Advantages:

1. They look to be the right scale.

2. They have magically floaty hair just like the current daemonettes.

3. Their creepy little deamon babies...awesome!

4. Just noticed that their anatomically correct. :tu:

That said, I'm reasonable sure that I can sculpt some very similar minis in alternate poses, using the Wyrd models as reference. I'll probably add a few to the Soulginder for the extra squick.

Anyway what do you think? Do they fit? Also if anyone have a good alternative please post them up.

More, Later....

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/29ysfbk.jpg

(not my painting by the way, this is just for reference, etc...)

Disadvantages:

1. Their metal.

2. Their are only three poses (although that's still better than one)

Thanks guys!

Spawn of Slaanesh?

I put is my order for them today. I can't wait to get started on them; I can already see the poses : skipping, prancing, playing catch with a space marine helmet. :P If anyone has good posing ideas please post them.

Soulgrinder:

I finally figured out how I'm going to complete the Soulgrinder's throne, which was interestingly enough inspired by "The Neverending Story".... :P Any concept pictures will be up tonight. I've been working on the hand to get them more anatomically correct, as well as some minor work to the face. The throne still needs lots of work, but the rider will get cut up for molding soon. I'll probably make a tutorial on how it was done and the various molding details.

Seekers:

I have 30 of the new seeker modeled, with alternately posed riders, with lances, shields, and lariats (bondage...spam). I kept the saddles as they look really nice as is. I also did some reposing on the legs on the mounts. I'll probably, sculpt them a bit to add some more variation. While I loved the Diaz Seekers models, they just don't come close to the new mounts.

Herald's in chariots:

Since we now have excellent plastic seekers model's I'll be making 4 chariots. I'm using bits ordered HE chariot wheels and bases, with 2 plastic seekers each. The rest will by styrene and aves putty.

Flamers:

I have 10 daemonettes with ghoul arms, and sculpted fireballs in their hands. After seeing Clash of the titans I want to add some daemonettes with bows, as well. Archery is about skill and perfection, which suits Slaanesh's way of warfare, ie Anti-Khorne. I not sure is I want to string sting the bows or add arrows. Maybe just a magical bow, kinda like the Ranger from the old "Dungeons and Dragons" cartoon.

Male Keeper:

The big guy is getting reworked. I've been carving in additional detail, and re-fining and defining the muscles. The feet, and legs are completely hidious so their getting the lion's share of the work. Soon as that's done it getting molded and cast.

I know having enemies on bases are a bit cheesy, but how about one kneeling on a terrian feature above their unspecting victim, one hand placed on the top of the terrian feature, one hand curved behing it, with a deamonette-style dagger held with the blade downwards.

cliche i know, but i think with your modelling skills it would look cool nontheless.

Soulgrinder Concepts:

My new idea for the walker is that its constructed from: marble, precious metals, gemstones and silks. Having lots of mechanical grubbins isn't really working for me' Its not so elegant and a bit busy looking. Giger-esque style machine/flesh is yet another option.

Any way here the concept. Instead of having the occupant supported by a chair/throne thing. I would have 3-5 reclining figures supporting the riders weight. The figures would be very stylized golden statues representing the different aspects of Slaanesh.

Here are some figure studies, daemonic of course. ;) The would be arrange around the pregger and support her with either 1-2 of their hands.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/2/160233_sm-.jpg

I kinda like how these turned out, I might clean them up and use them as either banner pics or "nose art" on some Emperor's children vehicles...

I threw this composite together to get an idea of the scaling.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/2/160236_sm-.jpg

I still haven't be able to come up with a satisfying way to fuse the walker legs into throne/dais. If anyone has a good idea on how to do it, please share.

More, when I'm not dozing off at the keyboard....Later!

And back to this guy....

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/19/59233_sm-.JPG

I been working on him since this morning and he's coming along great. I went to work on with with a dremel, a saws and a scalpel. So he now sectioned up along muscle insertions. I learned this new trick from these books:

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8573.jpg

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8574.jpg

I ordered them off Amazon Japan and the are gold for anyone wanting to get into sculpting larger (6-24") figures for reproduction. The are in Japanese which I'm learning and cannot read yet but contain hundreds of detailed step by step instructions. Far better than most video I seen and I have many.... Get them here:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%81%8B%E3%82%8F...pd_bxgy_b_img_b

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A3.../ref=pd_sim_b_6

http://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%81%8B%E3%82%8F.../ref=pd_sim_b_5

What so great about this type of setup? Well the pieces that you'l need to mold are much smaller, allowing smaller and less complex molds. Originally I thought I would need to create some outrageously complex plaster and silicon matrix molds. Which honestly made me want to re-consider finishing this model.

For example:

Here's the torso sans the head.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8547.jpg

Ordinarily you'd get a nasty seam line at the neck. Instead I cut the break point along the natural seam created by the collar and scapula bones.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8543.jpg

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8544.jpg

No need to pin it, a film of super-glue readily will hold it place.

Torso:

I cut the legs off in away that preserved as much anatomy as possible without obvious seams. I also did quite abit of resculpting to correct the anatomy and proportions of the pectorals and shoulders. Still aways to go on the shoulders and ribcage.

Claw Arms:

I'm re-worked the joins for the claw arms into be ball and sockets for better pose-ability. You could easily magnetize them for transport for instance or posing.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8531.jpg

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8535.jpg

Since were on the claw arms, those are getting additional details, such as spines and "teeth". I'm shooting for somewhere between a the GW KOS and standard daemonettes in terms of detail. Too much?

The upper arms:

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8536.jpg

Legs:

I'm in the process o detailing the legs and feet. Again making them more like the feet of the daemonettes and seeker mounts in terms of design. Just more robust and less delicate, given the KOS greater size and weight. The feet and claw arms will also receive similar texture details.

The Sword:

I'm thinking its needing some additional detailing. Maybe some screaming daemonette faces?

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8572.jpg

The Head:

I chopped the horns off for easier casting and allow for more options. The teeth and gums were removed for the dame reason. The dome of the head has be reshaped as well.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8542.jpg

Having seen the new White Dwarf cover I might go with this head as an option:

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/m1520288a_WD_372.jpg

Partially Assembled:

Disassembled:

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/Actual%20Scale%20Black%20Templars/Vampire%20Counts/Slaanesh/IMG_8525.jpg

So, I've been working on the KOS and Soulgrinder tag-team style to get them done by Saturday.

Keeper of Secrets:

First, I've cleaned up the up the seems on the legs. So, when glued together they'll be nearly visible.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/IMG_8588.jpg

Progress on all fronts! The main claws are done, except for some smaller spike and texturing. I'm working on the head now.

http://i428.photobucket.com/albums/qq3/Fifth_miracle/IMG_8579.jpg

Questions:

1. I want to do at least one alternate head, what would be best: a Minator-style bovine head, or maybe a tentacle face?

2. What else does he need? Piercings, spines? What?

Soulgrinder:

Change of planes, I'm now going with a suggestion from fellow Slaanesh cultist Rudkin from 40Konlinne. We're going back to basic simple on the throne design. Everything I'd come up with so far was overly complex and gaudy. So I going with simple harem style pillows and hanging bolts of silk. Simple, elegant, easy to sculpt... :D

It's a cop out I know; but the cushions cover up the dias, hide the join between the fleshy legs and the throne, and gives me and excuse to add some little daemonettes lounging around on the platform.

Anyway I went back to super-sculpey for this, why waste Aves sculpt. I'll be testing a new cyclonic oven that I bought to bake my clay sculpts. More on that later...

More Today!

great to see the progress on the soul grinder!

Where did you find these manga figure sculpting books?

Can you read japanese or just go by the pictures?

Amazon Japan.

I started learning Kanji from children's books a couple months ago. I have to say that is been fun trying to read manga in their original language. But yeah, I'm mostly looking at the pictures for now.

Keeper Of Secrets:

Okay the legs/pelvic tie-in are done. Moving on to getting the shoulder/arm tie-in to look good while hiding any obvious seams.

This turned out really nice, actually. Even without glue or magnets the arm stays in place. I still need to finish the opposite shoulder, and carve in the 3 heads of each deltoid muscle.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162923_sm-Keeper%20Of%20Secrets,%20Slaanesh,%20Slaaneshi%20Daemon.JPG

I cut the fingers off and repositioned them to make the palms of the hands wider as well.

In this picture you can see how the connection slides into place. I should be really easy to magnetize or just glue together.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162929_sm-Keeper%20Of%20Secrets,%20Slaanesh,%20Slaaneshi%20Daemon.JPG

I also finished the first layer of detailing on the claw arms.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162931_sm-Keeper%20Of%20Secrets,%20Slaanesh,%20Slaaneshi%20Daemon.JPG

Looking at my reference I still have some work to do on the socket were the claw arms attach.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162951_sm-.JPG

Here's a better view of the socket. Its got lots of contact surface inside, so pinning shouldn't be needed. Gaahh.... I will be re-sculpting those serratus muscles as well...argh!

Right. Moving on...

Soulgrinder:

I bought this table top oven a couple of months back to bake polymer clay miniatures and one off 12" sculpts. But hadn't tried it out yet. Let me tell you this thing it sweet! Its got precise temperature control, and a built in timer. But the best part is that you can see inside it while its running, and it cooks by swirling heated air around the sculpt. Now I've baked lots of polymer clay in my time, but I've never had it cook hard without at least a little blackening and charing of the thinner parts. That is until now. Must experiment further....

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162934_sm-.JPG

Oh, and as a bonus you can still cook a turkey in the thing...don't tell the wife.

Here's the baked result:

I also started to chop her up for final detailing and molding next week.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162941_sm-.JPG

That last picture right there even creeped me out. She looks like she should be in a roasting pan or something. Who wants a leg?

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/11/162946_sm-.JPG

Moving on to other disturbing imagery....

Having some very scary searches on the interwebs... I've decided to go with a shackle bar of the the supporting arms, as it looks very stylized and extremely uncomfortable. A nice contrast to those soft fluffy pillows.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/12/162962_sm-.jpg

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/12/162960_sm-.jpg

The legs will be shackled with a long chain that wraps around them, binding her so she can't move.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/12/162961_sm-.jpg

Additional Thoughts:

Finally, I'm considering having some tiny daemonette tormentors ride along; with at least one holding a long chain collaring her throat. I must sketch this idea. Perhaps have one sitting on her shoulder, guardian angle style. Another standing on the pillow whispering Slaanesh only knows what into the tormented Farseer's opposite ear.
