Slaaneshi Themed Daemon Army

Hi guys. I've got a couple of updates for ya.

KOS #2

I took the time to cut this guy up and socket the major joints and torso to make him easier to detail and ultimately cast. He's actually further along that this but I've gotta sort through all the in progress pics I have before I post most on him. Basically all that's left to do is finalize that hand poses, punch up the anatomy a bit with some light carving work, and smooth sanding the surface.

Pregnant Soulgrinder:

This is coming along nicely as well. I've got the body done, and I'm currently working on the head. Since its the make of break part of the model I'm taking my time with it. In these pictures I chopped the model up in preparation of sculpting male/female connections. I was a necessity for the legs because their pose din not allow me to easily sculpt the feet and shin areas. Ive also gone ahead and started installing the metal sockets for the wiring that will bind her to the walker.

I ended up bulking her up to much; making her look more fat than sexy. So I've started carving some definition back into the model. Disturbingly, the best photo reference I could find were not work safe. :) ;) I know I'll never look at pregnant women the same again.

Here is the styrene sheet skeleton for the walker arms. They will be built up with putty and machined the right size and shape. Once the prototype is done I cast of six resin copies for the model. As you can see the legs are sully articulated. I'll be using silicon washers and plastic pins to allow the model to be fully poseable.

More later on today!

I just saw this while searching Slaanesh on Google for ideas:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/4/56834_md-.jpg

And immediately recognized it as this WF sketch for a new Fiend of Slaanesh design for the 6th edition.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/4/56836_md-.png

Which is ofcourse from the same design series as this design and the 6th edition Diaznettes:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/4/56837_md-.png

Yes, the FW Keeper is secrets is based off this design. Since I have one of those I of course must have one of these as well. So, hello to Soul Grinder #3 B) So expect more 6 breasted, multi-horned, tailed goodness.

Progress to follow!

Updates!

Okay so the FW KOS is done. She's got a new staff icon to replace the generic CSM Slaanesh icon. She's been sanded and detailed. So its off to the display cabinet until its time to prime and paint her.

Also here's some more progress shots of the pregnant grinder. I'm scratch building the walker/throne out of styrene as we speak, so pics on that soon.

And a couple of shot of one the heralds mounts:

More to follow!

This pregnat WIP is scary somehow.

I cant really describe it. Its a perversion in itself. Really disturbing.

A great idea! Absolutely unique and it expresses chaos like no mini i have ever seen before.

Keep up the good work and get the rights for the idea.

Okay small update:

Legs for the Preggers throne:

These still need some sanding an truing up, before their ready to cast. I'm also thinking about carving some inlaid detail flourishes as well.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/6/57217_md-.jpg

And a few pics of her head as it is currently. The upper lip looks that way because thats actually her upper teeth. When dry the lips will partially cover it. The expression I'm going for is exstacy/agony, some there somewhat of a grimace in their as well. The eyes will be closed.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/6/57222_md-.jpg

Question does she need horns? Slaanesh is generally horned but I'm not sure, I better get to sketching.

More later!

Yet more progress:

Okay the face/head is much further along now. I'm still resolving the features such as the eyes, nose, and mouth. At this point I'm switching using solely a generic skull for reference and I'm working toward a specific person's face as reference.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/7/57307_md-.jpg

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/7/57308_md-.jpg

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/7/57302_md-.jpg

The size of the head looks to be correct now, as you can see I had to add material to fill out the back of the skull. Its a common error most people make when either drawing or sculpting the head.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/7/57311_md-.jpg

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/7/57304_md-.jpg

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/7/57310_md-.jpg

In case anyone wondering the duct tape is holding the legs together while the putty sets.

More soon!

That second Keeper of Secrets is fantastic. Did you base it on the drawing in Hordes of Chaos?

Is there going to be a cannon coming out of her womb?

Or out of her ... no, I shouldn't. It's a good point though: what will represent the Soul Grinders gun?

So I've been thinking...

So I was looking through my bits boxes today for some inspiration; and a piece of corrugated hose inspired this. Now the Idea here is in a manner similar to Alien Queen in Aliens, the daemon has a hose attached to her naughty bits that deposits her children/spawn behind the walker as it moves on blasting stuff.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/8/57512_md-.jpg

My only fear is that the hose passing through her throne makes is look like a giant toilet! :*) The hose would be attached to her lower body with metal hooks of course, to keep it real. :D The spawn would be a several of my converted grave ghouls....er...excuse me Painlings!

Too much?

A couple of other ideas:

1. How about making the fingers holding the belly longer and digging bloody rents into the flesh.

2. Someone suggested having engorged veins along the sides of the belly.

Thoughts?

Pregnant Soulgrinder:

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/3/56659_md-.jpg

You have a new convert to this army: my wife :D

She is a trainee-Midwife, so knows a bit or two about pregnancy and pregnant women ;) and she really likes this piece. I showed her your concept sketches, which I must admit found to be just the right side of border-line disturbing :o but she still thinks it's a really beautiful piece, saying she'd like to have one herself.

So I think you've nailed the pregnant look on this model for sure!

Ok i thought about it for a bit of time.

Make the Throne a "Gunthrone" and the Ammunitionbelt (hose) come out of her vagina or pelvic area. The hose fixed with metal hooks in her flesh.

Contrary to your sketch i think her Belly should face the enemyfront and her face pointing to the daemonic skys while giving birth to the ammunition.

I dont know if this is to hardcore just imagening the above gives me goose bumps,

perhaps you can constrain her to the throne with some straps belts and hooks to give it a more forced look (just continuing your idea with the hair of the sketch).

Naysmith:

Neither of these drawing are mine, but I think they fit you idea pretty well.

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/10/57811_md-.jpg

http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2009/10/10/57812_md-.jpg

While, been trying to not do anything to offensive of phallic. I do like both designs... But they seem more like EC defilers to me than daemons.

Well the consensus is that the toilet-demon-laying chair was to much and in the wrong direction. After reading all the reasons why I can only agree. So I'm moving away from the birthing chair idea and going with something more along the lines of Slaaneshi-stylized Buddha.

It seems that most everyone liked the hands digging into the belly and to some degree the incorporation of pulsing veins on the belly. To a certain extent I think that that might and the fact the "OMG its a pregnant daemon!" factor might be enough to carry the model. I'm also thinking about returning her to the original reclining position, as well.

Head update:

Well I'd say another half hour or so and this will be done. I still need to fatten up the lower lip, enlarge the nostrils, apply a slight bit of rhinoplasty, a little general sanding and done.

Remaining decisions:

1. what to do about the tongue: in, sticking out, long or normal?

2. sculpted eyebrows or painted?

3. full lip or thin lips.

4. here's the current idea for the horns.

So, opinions, etc?

More to come!

I think a long tongue, arcing forward over the figures neck would suit it myself. Horns look good too. I also think you really had something with the binding of the forelegs, even though that was just temporary, I think it would work really well for the final figure.

I think the long tongue will look as if she's enjoying the pain - good!

Sculpted eyebrows - painted won't look as good on such a large model!

I think the lips could do with a little bit of plumping but not too much otherwise it won't look right!

I prefer the horns on your drawing - less curly!

p.s. with the nose, females' noses create form a 105 degree angle with their lower lip as oppose to the 90 degree of a males' - i.e. looking a bit more pig-like (no slur to females by the way, just a way of describing the angle). I think yours could be angled a little more upwards?

eyes - they look as if they're at slightly different angles - not sure if this is correctable. Also, the lids on the left side is closed in the middle of the eye where a humans closes towards, if not at the bottom.

perhaps all of these comments are not releveant as the subject matter isn't actually human??

Looks awesome though, I've been watching for a couple of weeks and am really looking forward to the final product!

pabh:

Thanks. I guess I'll just have to try out the longer tongue and see. Binding the legs together? Hmmm...this will require some thought and research...off to cyberspace.

Brother Loring:

- Longer tounge and sculpted eyebrows it is.

- Thank for pointing out the flaw in the nose, I'll make it more upturned. It's not to wide is it?

- I'll fix the angle on the eyes. Good catch one the eyelids being unequal height, I was winging but I will go look at some reference.

perhaps all of these comments are not releveant as the subject matter isn't actually human??

Heck know! Their complete relevent and greatly appreciated. You squint at a tiny head long enough and all you see is what look right. So, a second set of eye is helpful.

Looks awesome though, I've been watching for a couple of weeks and am really looking forward to the final product!

Thanks, were getting there. I hope to finish up her hands this evening and work on the neck; so I can get her sanded and cleaned up. Her spider-futon/vehicle is being held, as I'm waiting on a new shipment of silicon rubber. I bought this new transparent type that I just can't wait to try out.

It's very rare that you see something so impressive that you feel you have to sign up to a forum just to say it!

Truly magnificent, makes me want to reach for the greenstuff and improve my skills. Thanks for helping inspire me to get more of my own Daemons painted.

Hiya!

Update time.

So, I've made some revisions on the Pregnant Soul Grinder who's working name is now "Carna", after the roman goddess of flesh, from whose name the word carnal; as in "carnal knowledge" was derived. Until of unless someone thinks up a better one for me. :P

Changes:

- decided to go with a short tongue in the mouth as it looked best.

- cut off and re-sculpted a smaller chin and re-sculpted the teeth.

- changed the pose of the praying hand to simply having the fingers interlaced.

Likely Changes:

- for the horns I'm going with some very small subtle horns.

- long hair tied to a ring on the dais, to restrain the movement of her head.

- the supporting hands will be shackled to the dais.

- subtle veining on the abdomen.

- claw marks from the hands holding the abdomen.

I need feedback on:

- inspired by the "6" wings of Seraphim, she will now have 3 pairs of wings to tie her into the them of the other models.

- idea for the dais that she resting on. Its the only thing holding me up now.

Well enough talk...on with the pictures:

These are done they just need to be cast up. There fully articulated, so I should be able to get some great dynamic when it comes time to pose the walker.
