% Composition of Titan Legions

Recommended Posts

Here is the background and configuration of the Legion I've been working on for a while now. Its still in the works and subject to change (of course).

Legio Crux Fidelis (Loyalty above All)

"As our bodies are protected by adamantium,

so our souls are protected by loyalty."

Mechanicus Proverb

Legio Crux Fidelis, known as the Loyalists, are one of the smaller Titan Legions of the Collegio Titanicus, composed of 14 Myrmidon-class light Titans and 6 Agamemnon-class heavy Titans, each pair of Titans supported by a Knight Household of 10 Hoplite armored suits and a battle company of 100 power armored Skitarii. Collectively, the Myrmidons and Agamemnons are known as the Immortals.

Due to The Crucible’s strong belief in the Omnissiah as the God-Emperor of Mankind, the Adepts of The Crucible practice a form of eugenics to produce superior human stock rather than extensive mechanical augmentation found in the majority of Adeptus of the Cult Mechanicus. As such, the Adepts of Crucible are seen as aberrations by many of the Adeptus Mechanicus. However, the Adepts of Crucible only differ in normal Mechanicus beliefs in that they venerate the Emperor's Space Marines as examples of the Omnissiah's connection to the machine spirit through flesh. With the vaulted Adeptus Astartes as an example of true greatness, the Adepts of Crucible have spent generations selectively breeding humans with a psychic connection to the machine spirit. Through carefully applied chemical therapy and minor genetic manipulation, Adepts of Crucible are stronger, healthier, and longer lived than average humans of the Imperium, sharing many traits with the Astartes, yet from birth rather than through the implantation of geneseed. This program of selective breeding has produce a minor psychic ability in most Adepts of Crucible, the ability to link their thoughts to machines through strong psychic fields produced naturally by the adepts. Using field effect mind interface units, the Adepts of Crucible can link with the machine spirit of most complex systems, creating a Manifold effect without need of bionic augmentation.

Skitarii units of The Crucible are not augmented, they are adepts that are psychically powerful enough to link with the machine spirit of a suit of powered armor, and are capable of feeding a psycho-active crystal matrix in the armor that will power all the systems and weapons. Their duty is to provide a screen for their knights, and to hold territory to secure lines of logistics.

Praetorians are those Skitarii that have excelled in their control of their armor and crystal matrix, and are capable of motivating heavier suits of combat armor. Their purpose is to hunt and destroy the opposition's heavy vehicles via teleported assaults. Praetorians also dawn Skitarii powered armor to lead squads of Skitarii in battle.

Cataphracti are that Praetorians capable of mastering the power and control systems of the Hoplite modular armored suits. These elite warriors are knighted, and inducted into households of fellow knights whose duty it is to support and defend one to the Immortals, a mighty Myrmidon-class Titan.

Only the most powerful Cataphracti can control a Myrmidon, and each Cataphracti that becomes Princeps to a Myrmidon requires assistance from a crew of specialists; an adept specializing in

power production and distribution to systems throughout the Titan known as an Enginseer; an adept specialist in communications capable of casting his or her thoughts via a caster as well as linking with the minds of the rest of the crew in Manifold, who is known as a Sensori; and a Cataphracti whose purpose is to support his Princep while learning to command and control a Myrmidon Titan, known by the title Moderati. Only the most veteran of teams may command the power on an Agamemnon.

In addition to Titans and Knights, the Crux Fidelis also fields heavily armoured Spartan-class Crawls built with field effect MIU thrones, allowing Skitarii to command heavy weapon systems in mobile support of Knight and Titan.

Rules and Key Terms:

Skitarii = Power Armour Grey Knights

Praetorians = Grey Knight Terminators

Cataphracti = Leman Russ Battle Tank “counts as” Knight class Titan

Myrmidon = Warhound/Reaver class Titan

Agamemnon = Warlord/Emperor class Titan

Spartan = Grey Knight Land Raider

Note: Basically, I want to field a Titan Legion to support my Grey Knights, and came up with a lost forge world with its own history and folk lore. The fiction I started writing as background material took on its own life with an origin dating back to the end of the Grand Crusade and beginnings of the Horus Heresy. I envisioned a support ship with salvaged Astartes and Legio war machines as well as the Techmarines and Mechanicus support techs associated with such a recovery effort being swept up in a warp storm mid transit and deposited into the eye of a warp eddy that just so happened to have an inhabitable world. The warp eddy was know to navigators as Kessel, so the world within became known as The Crucible. What passengers and crew that survived became the seed of a forge world based around the best qualities of the Mechanicus and the Imperium of Man, and was based around 10 founding families named after each of the 9 surviving Iron Hand Techmarines and their one surviving Forge Father. Only a handful of Spartan-pattern Land Raiders and the few intact Reaver-class Titans were reclaimed, yet taken all together, formed the core of wear gear needed to craw a foothold in the incredibly dangerous world of The Crucible. Etc.

Warhounds tend to get the kills in the early parts of wars against other titans. They work hand-in-hand with Reavers...Reavers strip the voids, and Warhounds get the kill shot from behind. So I don't think they wouldn't be counted...............ecspecially since they are "Godmachines" pretty much revered and worshipped by the mechanicus
Should probably do a summary of what we got so far, and then see what the next step is

I thought Severus6 was in charge of this :)

I can try to consolidate what we have so far but not sure when I'll get the time (Damn you work!!)

Summary as of 02-13-10

Legion Name: Legio Glacialis = Frozen Legion

Forge World Name = Unknown but it will be a icy/stormy world, people either living underground or in dome/shielded city-forges

Color = Blue/Grey (possibly camo)

Galactic Location = Segmentum Pacificus or Tempestus

Size of Legion = 23 Titans total, 11 Warlords + 1 Command Warlord, 3 Reavers, 8 Warhounds + 1 Command Warhound

Support Elements = 3 Mech. Infantry Battalions, 1 Armored Battalion, 1 Armored Cavalry Battalion, 1 Artillery Battalion

Combat Doctrine = Due to the small(ish) size of the Legion, there is a strong focus on combined arms warfare using their non-Titan elements in support. There is comparability little ego/glory hogs and instead an understanding of doing things "by the book" including the use of ambushes and camoflauge.

Ties to any Astartes = unknown so far

Beliefs = Emperor = Omnissiah

Personality = *I'm going to venture my own opinions here* I imagine them having the same kind of personality as the tough street cops in a bad city. This sector is theirs to protect and they take that responsibility extremely seriously. They are not prone to epic last stands or glorious battles but instead understand that everyday is a struggle and constant vigilance must be maintained. I'd prefer we don't try to make them stand out as some rebel/exotic/radical Legion. They understand their place in the galaxy and take great pride in their role. I'd also stay away from including them in any particularly famous battle in history, especially if we place them in the "quieter" Segmentums. They have extensive combat records in a variety of situations but they haven't yet had to participate in a war the scale of a Black Crusade or Armageddon yet.

How's that as a wrap up? Did I leave anything out?

I like it...(Sorry real world kept me away for awhile)...

I like the blue grey color scheme, and I say we should go with a slight camoish pattern, match the glaciers/snow maybe?

For combat doctrine maybe add that we specialize in ice /snow planets...surprise assualts maybe?

So far so good in my opinion...whats next, naming titans or a full color scheme photo?

I like the blue grey color scheme, and I say we should go with a slight camoish pattern, match the glaciers/snow maybe?

I was thinking of something kind of like a great white shark actually, lighter on the bottom and darker on the top. Of course the logic for such a color scheme wouldn't hold up (we're not in water) but it would look good I believe.

For combat doctrine maybe add that we specialize in ice /snow planets...surprise assualts maybe?

I'd like to expand that past just snow/ice to something else. Maybe restricted terrain like urban/mountain or the reverse, say we're good at wide open areas like a vast snow field.

So far so good in my opinion...whats next, naming titans or a full color scheme photo?

I won't be super helpful with a color scheme since my artistic talents are non-existent. I'm sure we could kick out some Titan names (find some kind of english = latin name generator)

I just finished reading Dan Abnett's "Titanicus".

In the book the Leigo Invictus diverts from heading home to refit to aid an Imperial Forgeworld that is being besieged by Chaos War Machines.

I vaguely recall there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 30+ Mechanicus Titans in the Legio, a mixture of Warloards, Reavers, and Warhounds, also a command track akin to a Leviathan. The number could have been larger at the beginning of their campaign, but the 30 or so were the survivors of years of battle.

There appeared to be a heavy amount of Warloards in the mix, possibly 50% or more. This might be due to the writer using the Warloard as the predominate vehicle carrying the character he was using at the time in the story. And there are several mentions of multiple Warloards in combat sequences throughout the story.

I could be noted that the larger, more prosperous the Forgeworld, the more Titans it will field. I mention this due to the fact that the Forgeworld they were aiding only had about half the Titans Legio Invictus brought.

By the way, a very good read (600 pages), with an ample amount of political backstabbing, battlefield blunders, and heroes of the day.

I thought Titanicus was awesome, as well. One cool thing about it was the tie-in to Abnett's old Titan comic strip in Warhammer Monthly. Quick math shows a 297 year gap between the two storylines, which I found to be an excellent way of bringing the old story into a more "current" setting.

Gents,

My apologies for my rather quick and annoying absence. Have started to read through the stuff I missed. Allow me the time to review and go from there.

As for me being in charge of this thing, I wouldnt say that; I am in an overwatch mode. This is a joint/combined effort,...to simply say that I am in charge implys that its mine and mine alone and that is not the case. I will arbitrate and recommend not dictate unless things start getting ugly with personal attacks which to be quite honest I just dont see here. As the AM, we are above such petty emotions,....

Severus6

No problem Severus6.

In case you haven't see it yet, we have a 5 posts above yours. So far I think we have a pretty good idea of how we want this to turn out.

However I'm not sure where to take it from here.

As the AM, we are above such petty emotions,....

And as the Chaos representative, I'll be filled to the brim with emotions, most of which are dark, violent and not safe for work. ;)
