Warhorse47
First, we are SERIOUSLY outnumbered here. Second, we can throw the Inquisitor under the bus [or Devilfish in this case]. Third, the story was written to see how we as Wolves would have responded. Hope you guys enjoyed the change of pace. hendrik
"This moon does not have the value my people need, tell your other warriors we are departing. We do not wish for more battle." Â those were the last words the enthereal spoke to firenze. even though all the wolves had followed the parley over their vox unit not all packs agread with this thought. especially not mav's pack. lying in wait together with his packmates hendrik and jonas the three of them needed only a nod to eachother to decide to stick with the plan. Â lord rags had studied the ork and tau movement carefully for days and after spending countless hours peering over the hololyths in front of him had come up with a grand plan. even though the wolves were outnumbered by both the tau and ork fighting forces they had one asset. the space ports. on the whole planet only a couple of places would allow extraction of the local forces to their fleet waiting in orbit above them and it would be the control over these space ports that would grant the sixth a stunning victory if the plan were to be succesfull. of all the space ports on the moon only two were still in imperial hands. the tau however weren't doing that great either with only one space port under their control. only one space port meant this would be their extraction-site. where the wolves couldn't win a global war against them the close confiness of the city would even the odds. while the tau could easely take out any of the forces the imperial forces could gather in open ground they would now be facing the might of the imperium in a dense city complex, limiting line of sight and the range of their guns to a minimum. while this fact was both a blessing it also meanth it could be their downfall. even while most of the tau long range fightingpower was useless it still meanth that their whole fighting force would be concentrated there and they would fight a bitter war. it also meanth the wolves needed a distraction or a way to enter the city while evading the tau forces still left on the egde, preventing the imperial guard and ork forces to get close to the city. it was this distraction that was delivered by maverick that afternoon, and it was this distraction that prevented the tau forces from leaving almost peacefully... Â --"force commander sha's oh taru'va, look, the resque escadre is leaving the outpost in sector ang'ra 25'ka and heading straight for us! they've managed to extract the earth caste dingitaries afterall!"-- -"impossible! the last messages made it clear there had been astartes sighted in the neighbourhood. we don't even know if the dignitaries are still alive. run a shematic on the earth caste dignitaries. are their live support systems still working?only concentrate on the most highly placed members, we can't afford to lose too much time!"- --"scans show all three upper-members of the caste are still alive sir, as well as several lower officers. there seems to be something wrong with their transports comms however force commander. it seems they are unable to transport to any of my messages. orbitals scans suggest the imperial fleet might be jamming them though. what are your orders?"-- a cold chill ran down the commanders back.this was either a trap or the humans were simply just preventing the earth caste to establish communication with the rest of the tau forces. they had done it before and it was causing him a great trouble to keep both the evacuation as the the war organised. -- "allow them to pass, but i want broadsides keeping them under fire the whole time untill they are in the cities outer rim. if they spot any sign of a trap order them to fire"-- Â as the devilfishes entered the outer rimm of the city hendriks auspex showed atleast 40 fire warriors were waiting for the earth caste members to arrive. clearly they were suspecting some sort of ambush. the pack had closed all vox communication for atleast half an hour to remain undetected and it seemed to work. as the devilfishes toutched the ground maverick glanced a last time at jonas and then the game was set in motion. instead of lowering the rear ramp of the devilfish both it's side entraced broke off. jumping out of each of the small devilfishes came two astartes, boltguns blazing and piercing several firewarriors before they even had time to react. as jonas and mav ran towards the nearest building to establish communication with the space wolf barge waiting in orbit, hendrik noticed a new squad of fire warriors entering the battleground and aiming for his comrades. since neither mav or jonas noticed them hendrik dropped his bolter and immediatly picked up one of the blastdoors belonging to the devilfish he had just jumped out, swinging it in the squads dirrection. the hurl was one of his best throws ever! nearly half the squad dissapeared under the heavy blastdoor and blood, ichor and brains coloured the sand where 2 seconds ago the freshly aarived firewarriors had stood. wasting no time to enjoy his kill he charged forward, his combatblade severing heads right and left. the following battle was a short and bloody one. 10 astartes versus 50 fire warriors was an uneven match even without the element of surprise and ragnaroks plan had worked perfectly so far. not only did mavs pack establish a savezone where rapid interventionforces using teleporters, valkyries and droppods could land but he also had a pack of his best killers already inside of the city and merely 5 km's away from the space port. Â "this is maverick, waiting for orders from lord rags, can you establish a secured comm line with him warhorse? we've got about 5 minutes before they'll have hell come thundering down on us" Â sorry mate! but the fang was just begging for another story and i felt it might create a new scene for you to work with! hope you like it! hendrik
--vox message--"this is maverick, waiting for orders from lord rags, can you establish a secured comm line with him warhorse? we've got about 5 minutes before they'll have hell come thundering down on us"-- Â -- vox channel established mav, orbital scans read the broadsides are already closing in on you from your left. our first airsupport should arrive in 2 minutes and drpopodlaunch should be ready in 5. we'll direct all our artillery to your right in en effort to create a temporary shield untill reserves arrive, go qucikly now!-- Â --understood and already on it brother! for russ!-- and with these words mav and the rest of his pack ran of to their left, vaguely hearing the sound of earthshakerrounds being fired in the distant. As the first braodside turned around the corner mav unleashed a deadly and precise torrent of shells right into the suits monitoring systems. deprived of it's sight it now was firing blindly in an effort to stop the marines. as mav planted his chainblade inside the suits torso, spraying him in a spallet of gore and blood the warrior let out a chilling howl, swiftly followed by the rest of his pack. the hunt had begun, the trap had been set in motion, and the hammer of the imperium was coming down upon the vile xenos... Â Â --In Russ' name firenze i don't care what it takes you! i need a transport and i need it now dammit!-- --message understood wolf priest max, but you better make a small prayer to the allfather, we've got our hands full with mobilizing our entire forces to the breachhead mav's pack has created. the fastest thing i can do is to send in a support dropod with bikes, however the whelps don't ha-- --send them in anyway dammit! i've seen the orbital scans and mav will need all the help he can get, and he needs it NOW!-- --roger sir! droppod estimated time of arrival in 6!-- Wolf priest max knew mav's pack was already in trouble. they were trying to hold a breachhead with only 10 of them, facing of a force so large an open war wasn't even a thing any of the wolf lords would consider. and yet he knew rags had made the right decision. if he had allowed those xenos to wander of peacefully they would just get away with it, possibly claiming another imperial world while the sixth remained here to mob up the orks, exterminatus was no option afterall! and so max would lead the whelps straight into the space port using the bikes firenze would send to them. an action that got them a renowned saga all on their own but that's a bifferent story... Â when the first shells landed the earth was shaking as if a titan had made a sprint. On the right of the breachhead the counterattacking tau forces found themselves pinned down by the constant hail of artilleryshells or torn to pieces by the scrapnel. and yet this bombarding could not last forever. luckely for mav's pack most of the tau forces were further up the city and only the most outer units that had sworn to fight untill the rest of their army was gone could try to get to them before the imperial reserves arrived. as mav looked up he already saw the first thunderhawks and valkyries showing up at the horrizon,as well as droppods pummeling down from the sky straight towards them. the sixth had made its move, and now it was preparing to land the final blow on the retreating tau forces. with the might of the sixth and the local pdf forces combined it would now all boil down into a bloody mellee, the thing the sixth excelled at above all astartes, and the thing they were known for. needles to say that after a battle that lasted two complete days the space port was cleared from any xenos. my armour still has scortchmarks left on it from all the plasma that got hurled at us that day. now forte, please fetch a a bowl of mjod to rinse my throath a bit while warhorse tells us the following saga!" Warhorse47
The Salamander looked at Ares and said quietly "I would be honored to help you in any way as we have fought and bled together here. My people work the forge like your ply your seas on Fenris." Ares thought for a moment and nodded, "Thank you, I want this to be right." They then set to work together to build the Walking Drum. Ares was using two damaged shoulder pauldrons to make the body and then they stretched the warp beast's hide over it and banded it on. They then fitted the carry strap and Ares struck the drum just once to make sure it was right. Turning to the Salamander, they grasped each other's arms, then they parted, both with preparations for this night. As darkness began to fall, he went to his assigned spot, where he would sound the cadence for the march. Looking over, he was struck by how few were left. Just a week earlier how proudly they all stood, their entire Company together for the first time in years for combat. The Company Commander striding down their ranks, looking each pack member in the eye, a smile here, a quick tug of equipment to straighten it a quiet word, perhaps. "My brothers, we are together to join battle! The Dark Eldar have seized this outpost, slaughtered our people and now try to flee here! We have found them and we will make them pay! FOR RUSS! FOR THE WOLFTIME!" The cheers had echoed off the hull as the pods were readied, T'hawks loaded and preparations became action. One week   One week where two Space Marine Chapters had done what they were sworn to do. Kill, avenge and die for the Imperium.   Now, the battle was done. Now the tally was taken. Now, the time of remembrance.   Their Commander was dead. Wolf Guard, decimated. Long Fangs, even fewer. As always the Gray Hunters and Blood Claws paying with blood. Almost half their Company fallen, it would take years to rebuild to their former strength. But they had won. The 6th had torn their enemies until they could no longer run, then finished them in a brutal, battle that saw even the most hardened Dark Eldar show fear as the last of the Wolves fell upon them.   Now they would send their brothers on their way as Wolves.   The Company's new Commander Ragnarok, looked over at Ares and nodded. He began to beat out a cadence on the Walking Drum and the other Wolves took up their torches. They began to walk silently, each pulling a travois behind them with a fallen brother upon it. Some who were still weak, doubled up to pull a brother. As they turned down the street towards their goal, they were honored by the Salamanders, who stood silently with torches of their own, lining the way. Civilians, rescued fro the Xenos, stood with candles in a vigil for them too. As they reached their destination, each Wolf carried their fallen brother to a prepared funeral bier and placed them upon it. DE weapons were placed at the feet of the warriors and then on command, the torches were thrust into the bier, starting the fire that would signal a Warrior's entrance to Valhalla. With a crunch, Iron Chin connects with Conan head, knocking him head over heels and landing in a crumpled heap. Bordering on unconsciousness.  The impact obviously doing nothing to Nrth thanks to the chin first impact.
