Day 2 was a real blast, and no late opponents this time!

My first matchup was vs a top player with his tricky Eldar list. He got the jump on me real good and almost killed me before I could bring my skyhammer in! I lost Dante and his command squad on turn 1!! Really bad armour saves!

When my skyhammer came in I had to be really aggressive and do some highly risky deepstriking to try steal the game back! It payed off and I almost won the game! In fact I probably lost the game on 1 bad roll! Eldrad was hiding in a wave serpent when I unloaded 20 rerolling grav cannon shots only to do 1 hp of damage! my Culexus assasin was left sitting right next to the wave serpent he couldnt hurt and would have hopefully saved me the game by assaulting Eldrad. Instead he turbo boosted away and absolutley wrecked my army! It was a really fun game and I ended up loosing 13-7

Seems Eldar are a bad matchup for me. Swooping hawks are amazing!! Seems they have a trick for everything!

The next game was vs a new Tau list! I probably should have won this game 20-0, but after turn 6 the game ended with my opponent having 2 battlesuits left hiding behind a rock! My opponent has focused on objectives all game while I was merily chopping up blue skins. I still got the win 14-6.

My skyhammer came on in the first turn and killed 1 riptide, a unit of pathfinders and a transport! My BA tactical squad managed to bbq 2 squads with 1 heavy flamer causing 1 to run off the board and the other to melt! However man of the match went to the culexus who killed both a ghostkel and a riptide in hand to hand combat! The rest of the game was just mopping up.

The last game was vs Orks and wow what a game it was! He had a lot of nobs and warbosses! and bikes! He grabbed alot of objectives early and was scoring flat out in Maelstrom missions. I was struggling to keep up and my skyhammer really failed big time on the turn it arrived! The gravs killed 3/10 nob bikers, the 10 man assault squad failed to kill a single chopper. I did wreck a nob truck with the melta squad.

The next turn saw the nob bikers assault my grav Devs.I dont know what happed, buit must have thought they where part of the death compant because 9 Devs inflicted 6 wounds on the nobs and he failed 4 of them! so 2 more nobs dead! To top it off the nobs rolled very badly and I still had 3 grav cannons left locked in combat! The next turn the 3 of them killed another nob before being wiped out!

On the last turn of the game I was easily loosing, with Dante alone and on 1 wound! He heroicly assaulted the Warboss and his last remaining Nob bodyguard! He killed them bother before they could move and consolidated onto an objective!

My last assault squad assaulted the footslogging nobs and between some excellent hammer of wrath rolls and striking first managed to inflict over 14 wounds on the squad. The other warboss only killed 2 of my marines and was rundown trying to flee! they then consolidated onto an objective.

I ended up winning 15-5 thanks to all the killpoints and objectives I grabbed in that last round of combat!

I don't think anything screams 40k more than a lone injured chapter master charging and killing an ork warboss in an final act of glory before stealing victory from a green horde! It was an epic way to finish the tournament!

So I finished the tournament 4 wins and 2 losses, and had a great time! Cant ask for more than that!

How did he move away after you hit him with grav-cannons? Wouldn't the Wave Serpent have been Immobilized?

That last game against the Orks sounds totally epic.

Orks are easily on of my favourite opponents.

EDC

Agreed!

It's battles like that which really make this game great, and which remain in your memory years after fighting them.

Oh man.... just reading up on the rules for grav!! You are right! I totally forgot it also immobilises as well!!! That probably would have won me the game as Eldrad would not have been able to vaporise my grav devs while standing next to the culexus!!!

So the moral of the story is play more and get familiar with your army and rules!! I wont be forgetting that one again!!

  • 4 weeks later...

Soo... had to take a little hobby hiatus after the last few months of frantic preporation for tournaments and rts etc etc.

Today is the first day of my christmas break and I have 3 weeks off!!

So time to start preparing for the next event. A little 750 point tournament at the end of January.

So new plans!!

1. Paint my long neglected sicaran battle tank.

2. Build some really cool thematic objective markers.

3. Lastley build a kick ass display board!

Oh i still need some decent pics of my rts vow

So the long awaited RTS pictures.... Now instead of sitting on the unfinished shelf these guys can sit on the retired shelf! But at least they look good :P

I originally designed this sergeant to take advantage of the Sanguinor buff in 5th ed! Never got to try that build! Hopefully he'll be useful in the future!

Looks ace aaron but now i know your running a sicaran I'm a little concerned haha

You better watch out mate! They are pretty good value!

Sicarans are always awesome! But what's up with the thickness of that banner? It looks like they tried to freeze Sanguinius in carbonite.

Its 2 banners joined together with a bit of rod running through the middle. I should have glued them together then drilled a whole for the rod, but in my haste I ran the rod right through and filled in the rest with GS. Not my most well thought out modification, but Ill paint it up and see if it looks any good. It is removeable!

I did a bit more work on the turrent and messed around with some source lighting! would love to know what people think!

I am keen to give some weathering a go on this model! But I am a little scared of ruining it in the process as I've not really done it properly before! I may try it on an old Rhino before I do it to this model!

The source lighting is fairly small, hopefully it wont be an issue!

Anyone know where I can find a good guide on weathering ??

With OSL, smaller is usually better in my opinion; especially for things like the periscopes you did, which aren't a light source of their own.

And here's a few guides:

Chipping & Scratches:

Oil paint weathering (water/rust/dirt streaks, great for aircraft wings too)

http://thetwelveolympians.co.uk/painting/simple-weathering-with-oil-paint/

http://ttgbunker.blogspot.nl/2011/02/weathering-techniques-oil-paints.html

Weathering powders:

http://thetwelveolympians.co.uk/painting/weathering-pigments/

The ones from the 12 Olympians are a series on a Landraider, so you can see how the effects look combined.

Looks great! Take not that if you're going to do any weathering, it might be smarter to do any OSL after you've finished weathering, to not ruin the effect later.

Wise words. I try to think in terms of what would happen to the model in what order, e.g.:

1) Paint (base coat)

2) Chips and scratches

3) Oil / weather staining

4) OSL

I.e. any reflected light would show on top of the other effects, so best done last.

Anyhoo, great work so far, and the marines look awesome too :)
