BA Army Expansion + Chapter Fortress

Man, these are top notch (as ever!) you can see you out a lot of work into them. Some really fluid poses going in that I apologize in advance I AM GOING TO HAVE TO STEAL :P You know I'm not normally a lover of too much of the new BA bling but fair do's your DC rock B) And any chance of any more picts of the razorback 'coz I'm about to do a forgeworld DC one and your's looks great. How'd you do the heavy flamer? Have you had a chance to use it in game yet? Liking the red 'cowling' on it 'coz it can be interchanged with others (and I wasn't sure how it would look against the black but I'm sold)

BTW the pred looks 100% better with the forgworld front instead of the single view point :P

:D

Cheers Midnight, much appreciated.

Sadly Stupidly, we only took one group shot with the Razorback :) So the best I can do for you for now are these:

I made the Hvy Flamer mount using two of the SoB Immolator weapons positioned as normal onto a RB support. The fuel tank is from the same kit but requires a quick bit of filing down of the pipework that comes out either end, so that it fits (practically perfectly) under the standard RB cowling. The "pipe/fuel lines" coming out underneath, which you can see a bit better in the group shot with the DC, are th cables from Dread Hvy Flamers, pinned and glued into place to feed through the holes in the cupola (I reversed the cupola for this loadout).

Used the Hvy Flamer in about 5 games so far and it's been ok-ish. Against Nids, Orks and possibly IG I'd say yes, go for it - steam those guys in black up the table and BBQ. Against pretty much everything else, I'd say stick with the Hvy Bolters if those are your only choices. Getting immobilised away from the action, which has happened, means you're just torching the scenery - redundancy would probably help there but then you're probably specifically tailoring your force to bring the heat so to speak.

I think that if you can hold the DC and RB back for a few turns and let other stuff pop transports beforehand, then you can move up, flame and disembark for assaults. I'm no Erwin Rommel though :)

Ah nuts!! Rumbled again :) Has it really been April since I last worked on this thing... cr@p!?

Apologies lads, I've been meaning to get back to this project for a while now but as my last post mentioned, we got a bright new book with lost of fun new bells and whistles. Basically, apart from real life (-sigh-), I've slowly been trying to expand my army and revamp a few bits here and there. On top of that, I had a local tournament to prep for (which I actually won with our shiny new 'dex ;) ), and a club painting competition to do (came 2nd).

I'm currently prepping a new army build for another tournament in the middle of November, so the next update will be of some new army stuff, but as soon as that's done with (along with the whole time-pressure painting thing, which I actually hate), I'll be back on the case with some more updates and building work. Stay tuned, she'll very shortly be bigger and wider...

@Inq Len - Appreciate you keeping tabs mate, thanks!

So, a quick update from me - more FAST ARMOUR!!!

First up, my new Predator. Built it as a squadron command vehicle/ground commander with the added extra armour on the turret, extra targeting array, gold rivets, and the halo skull icon as opposed to a standard vehicle number. Really chuffed how this came out, and the turreted armour makes it look that little bit beefier. I know the "mud" is not to everyone's liking but for the sake of continuity I had to carry on as before. I'll eventually revamp it when I have more time.

Next is my Asst Sq Razorback with T/L Plasma and Lascannon. Don't know how well it shows but the Plas conversion was made from the standard vehicle Storm Bolter - shaved down to fit two Plasma Guns cut to fit; as well as shaving the "bullet" ammo casings and attaching icons from the Terminator set over the space (which fits almost perfectly). The Las mount is the FW Multi-melta mounting and replacing the weapon with a FW Lascannon. I've also marked the tank on the roof and hull to show that it belongs to the first of the company Asst Sqds.

...and finally, "Where's WALLY the Death Company?"

Next up, a fair bit of infantry and then back to the Fortress...

no problem, i always remember the amazing projects :)

seriously, i was sitting around and like 'what happened to that guy?'

Love your work! Great work on the assault squad, death company and dread. Such a cool idea using the taranchula on the razor back for the lascannon.

But what I really like the most and it says a whole lot about you and your work is the clean workspace in your pics.

Keep up the good work. ^_^

J

Cheers WW - The clean workspace is down to being a dad with a 2 yr old that "looks with his hands" :wallbash:

I've had some good ideas (I hope) for some of my next infantry conversions and builds... more to follow soon...

Lots of FW stuff on them you flash git, with some nice conversions (I'm looking at you Mr. Razorback) and excellently painted to boot; 100% win! Looking forward to seeing more ;)

PS cheers for the comments on mine, looking like an army now whoop whoop

The DC model, without his helmet, doesn't look good with the red "eyes". That's my opinion anyway.

Similar to my "mud" effect, I knew it wouldn't be too everyone's liking, and it's perhaps too much of an obvious nod towards the contentious "vampires" issue. I just wanted them to look a little more sinister than standard crazy eyes ;)

where did you get the dread base?

It's an old FW dispaly base from one of their OOP statuettes that I picked up from eBay.

I'm loving the old IG tank road wheels on the backs of you Rhino hulls.

Over-charged ENGINES

It seems like youve painted it so well so fast.......I'm so jelous of your painting speed. :D

Seriously?! I'm by no means a fast painter and I would have loved to have got more stuff done up to now, but too many things get in the way on top of that.

Appreciate all the positive comments lads, many thanks!

So, a couple of weekends ago I took part in the Rochester GT in New York. Having pulled 3.30-4.30am painting shifts for the prior 3 weeks (and a 6.30am finish the morning before dice rolled at 9.30am  ) to get these guys finished, I was a bit unprepared and zombie-like to operate under "normal gaming conditions". Hence, after the first two games with some really unlucky rolling when I most needed it, I was out of the running for anything major on the BPs/Overall side of things....

but...

...the late finish and stupid painting schedule at least got me 2nd Best Overall for Best Painted (out of 92), and for that I'm pretty chuffed. At least next year I'll have the army done in good time and can then concentrate on actually winning my games :P

Here's some general army pics of what I ran - close ups of newly finished units to follow...

Wow, I wish I had known about a GT in Rochester. I would have tried to get there.

Nice job AM, really good stuff.

Cheers JamesI.

My first event there and I have to say it was a brilliant weekend. 5 games over 2 days and had a blast in all my games (even when I got tabled by Daemons - I was physically and mentally dead by then  ). Some great guys and really well organised with lots of prize support. The tables were very good btw, with a good amount of terrain - definitely going next year.

Check out the home page - http://daboyzgt.wordpress.com/dbgt-2010/

Next year it's Oct 21-23rd with a new and bigger venue.

Thanks Vahouth. I'm moving house soon so I'll have one more update pic of new stuff before next year (apart from my recent additions), but next year will be the year of the "specials" (SH Termies, Sang Guard, Vanguard, Sternguard, Stormravens, characters), and definitely more on the Fortress. Going to take a different tac and actually get the base and ground level done. Once the footprint is finished it'll make the other stuff easier to do...
