I have gone trough from the Rogue Trader articles to the last space marine codex. Pretty much the information on the Black Consuls has already been posted, there is only a mention about the two Consuls in the Guilliman background.

 

That scheme and the mini are the the official colours:

Brother Nero, I'm assuming that miniature is from C:UM? That would make Insignium Astartes the most recent source to show their weapon, unless they're in How to Paint Space Marines. They were shown with red bolters in Insignium Astartes in 2002 when most other chapters, albeit not the Ultramarines themselves, had already switched to black.

The Insignium Astrates depicts a Black Consuls marine with the red painted bolter. It also says that the shoulder pad trim shows the Company colour. In the GW publication Space Marine Collectors Guide (2002) the Black Consuls marine appears with the red bolter.

That's the White Consuls. It comes from Dark Creed, and while I haven't yet read it myself, I've heard that it's more of a "they might" situation than a "they do".

Set amid the ruins of Safehold (last planet attacked by the World Engine), the garrison has known representatives from each of the Chapters that fought at the Astral Knights' side.

Marneus Calgar sends Sicarius and the 2nd Company to the Zeist sector to halt the Tau advance. Word was sent to all nearby Chapter, asking for aid. By the time Sicarius struck Augura, the Tau staging post, the force had swollen to nearly Chapter strength (amongst others the Aurora). Augura's fortresses were smashed, its shipyards and weapons factories destroyed. Tau expansion ended. Sicarius disperses his armies as Imperial Tarot predicts dire times ahead, the forces of the Adeptus Astartes were needed elsewhere.

Aurora Chapter

In addition to Bystrom's post (cheers!):

 

The Knight of the Raven Chapter have been sent on an 'arduous deployment' as 'penance for coming to blows with Brother-Marines of the Aurora Chapter, a conflict ended only by the intervention [of] Marneus Calgar'. [Codex: Space Marines 2009, p28].

 

Their Chapter homeworld, Firestorm, is in the Ultima Segmentum, directly east of the galactic core, and relatively close to the core.

 

The Aurora Chapter Predator 'Harbinger of Death' (Mar Pattern MkIV, Destructor pattern; autocannon turret, heavy bolter sponsons) fought alongside the Chapter's First Company during the Goru Heresy. The Heresy involved chaos cultists – but no further info is given [Imperial Armour Vol II [DATE?], p31].

 

Alongside the White Consuls, the Aurora Chapter took part in the Liberation of the Ophidian Subsector, rescuing Inquisitor Javes Thysser of the Ordo Xenos. [Malleus, Dan Abnett, 2001, pXX*] The Great Triumph that followed this victory, took place on Vogel Passionata saw the entire Chapter take part in the parade. One hundred marines accompanied fifteen Rhinos bearing the dead (whether this is specifically the dead of the Aurora Chapter is not specified) near the front of the parade. They bore black-ribboned placards bearing the names of the dead. The remainder of the Chapter then followed, 'all in full, polished, imperator armour'. [Malleus, Dan Abnett, 2001, pXX*]

Mentioned as a Primogenitor in the Apocrypha of Davio [Codex: Space Marines 2009, p8].

 

'First among the Primogenitors', and 'dogmatically loyal to the memory of Roboute Guilliman', the Genesis Chapter are some of the Ultramarines closest allies [Codex: Space Marines 2009, p24].

 

Chapter world: Newfound. It is located Galactically corewards from Ultramar, and is in the Ultima Segmentum. It is near the Charadon Sector [Codex: Space Marines 2009, p30].

 

The Chapters engaged Waaagh! Irontoof in 998 M41, alongside the Ultramarines [Codex: Space Marines 2009, p31].

 

A scout sergeant in Genesis Chapter colours appear on p120 of Codex: Space Marines 2009.

The Ultramarines have maintained the Honour Company at the Cadian Gate for many millennia, rotating officers and squads from Ultramar, as well as warriors from the Ultramarines' many successor chapters to guard the Cadian Gate.

The current commander of the Honour Guard is Captain Echion of the Patriarchs of Ulixis Chapter, a veteran leader of many centuries of service fighting the servants ot the Ruinous Powers. It is unusual, though far from unheard of for an officer not of the Ultramarines Chapter to lead the company, though with the Chapter's resources stretched by Tyranid incursions on the Eastern Rim such a situation is set to become more common.

They treat the 'dwindling technologies of Mankind without superstition' [Codex: Space Marines 2009, p70]

 

Dreadnought 'Numine' of the Chapter's 6th Company is a MkIV, and is shown with a loadout of multi-melta and power fist. He bears his personal motto Dei Sub Numine Viget – [Imperial Armour Vol II [DATE?], p138].

Background:

The White Consuls are a second founding Chapter, and one of those named Successors to the Ultramarines Legion (Apocrypha of Davio) [Codex Space Marines, 2008, p8]. They are thus one of the Primogenitor Chapters [ibid. p14]. It is noted that the genetic lineage of Roboute Guilliman is clear in the features of at least some White Consuls [Dark Creed, 2010, p125].

 

The White Consuls seem to follow the Codex closely, and have close links to the Ultramarines: some White Consuls are drawn from Ultramar itself [ibid, p34]; and at least some are tutored by the finest minds of the Ultramarines [ibid. p76]. Their Chapter symbol is a blue Eagle’s head on a white field, and their uniform is a reverse of their parent Legion, with white as the main colour and blue as their secondary. Veterans thus have a blue helmet etc. Company colours are still marked by shoulder trim [Codex: Ultramarines, 1995, p42]. It is not clear whether the veteran and ninth company are thus reversed; or indeed, if the company colours are identical to the Ultramarines or a variant. Veterans are described in Dark Creed as wearing blue helmets and blue tabards over their white armour, and were bedecked with purity seals and military decorations [Dark Creed, 2010, p159]. Known examples painted by the ‘Eavy Metal team vary the colour of the chest eagle.

 

They are one of the ‘Astartes Praeses’ Chapters, a group of twenty Chapters who are dedicated to guard the Eye of Terror [Codex: Eye of Terror, 2003, pXX]. This group is also called the ‘Adeptus Praeses’ [Dark Creed, 2010, p74].

 

Unusually, the White Consuls are part of the Imperial Cult, and seem to worship the Emperor as a god [Dark Creed, 2010, pp202, 401].

 

Chapter World

Their Chapter World, Sabatine, is located to the galactic west in Segmentum Solar, south of the Eye of Terror [Codex Space Marines, 2008, p.30]; but the Consuls ‘[are] spread far and wide, battle-brothers and companies located across more than fifty systems at any one time’ . For this reasons, it has ‘served the Chapter well to have [a] pair of co-rulers’ [ibid. p75], the two Chapter Masters Cymar Xydias and Titus Valens.

 

In addition to their Chapter Planet Sabatine, the White Consuls rule a number of other ‘protectorate systems’ [ibid. p80], including the Boros system, detailed in Dark Creed. They rule ‘[the Boros System] with a benevolent hand [...] all eighteen inhabited planets and two-dozen colonised moons and asteroids – were afforded liberties and a quality of life undreamed of in many regions of the Imperium’ [Dark Creed, 2010. p26]. Two White Consuls – a Proconsul (the senior officer [ibid. p35]) and Coadjutor (the junior) – rule Boros Prime directly [ibid. p26]. The other protectorare systems have a similar system of rulership by a Proconsul and Coadjutor [ibid. p80].

 

Boros Prime, the capital planet of the Boros system, holds the city of Sirenius Principal [ibid. p24]. The White Consuls are revered with ‘awe bordering on worship’ by the majority of the inhabitants [ibid. p26]. This is not officially encouraged, but nor is it discouraged. It is protected by the star fort Kronos, the size of a small moon and the ‘largest space station in Segmentum Obscurus’ [ibid. p26] (n.b. Sabatine is located in Segmentum Solar according to Codex: Space Marines).

 

Every battle-brother must serve as a Coadjutor in the years after rising from the rank of neophyte (scout) [ibid. p36], but only selected veterans are chosen to act as Proconsuls, and the thirty years service in the post is a requirement to become a sergeant or officer in the Chapter [ibid. p37].

 

The White Consuls are a ‘fleet-heavy Chapter’ [ibid. p80], and have three immense battle barges and more than a dozen strike cruisers. Two thirds of the fleet is permanently stationed patrolling the borders of the Eye of Terror.

 

Chapter Master Xydias mentions a group of White Consuls: ‘the Praetorian squads of Sabatine itself’ [Dark Creed, 2010, p80]. No further details are given.

 

The White Consuls ‘report banishment of Greater Daemon tentatively identified as the Fateweaver’ in an operation directly south of the Eye of Terror [Codex: Space Marines, 2008, p.31]

The ‘White Angel’; Lord Gaius Aquilius of 5th Company, Dux Militari, Coadjutor of Boros Prime [ibid. p28]. On official duties inspecting the Boros 232nd regiment, he wears a blue tabard with the Eagle Head heraldry of the Chapter.

 

Brothers Severus Naevius and Lucius Castus; Sternguard Veterans. Castus has a plasma gun in Dark Creed , Naevius has an ornate boltgun [ibid. p400].

 

A Mk VI Razorback, armed with twin lascannons, appears in I:A II. It is noted as 'a vehicle of the First Company, deployed to defend the Cadian Gate as part of the Chapter's commitment to the 'Astartes Praeses'' – [Imperial Armour Vol II [DATE?], p53]. Whether this implies that the entire First Company is permanently deployed, or this is simply a reference to this particular Razorback (more likely, in my view), is debatable.

 

A Damocles Command Rhino of the 5th Company appears in the same publication. Based on this and the previous Razorback, it appears the White Consuls denote company markings on Rhino-based vehicles with chevrons on the upper part of the exhaust stacks. – [Imperial Armour Vol II [DATE?], p81]. The same source notes that the entre Chapter was deployed to protect the Cadian Gate against the 13th Black Crusade, as a consequence of being one of the Adeptus Praeses.

 

Notable Campaigns

12th Black Crusade (aka the Gothic War) – participated [battlefleet Gothic rulebook, DATE?, pXX?]

13th Black Crusade – All ten companies deployed and participated [Codex: Eye of Terror, 2003, pXX?].

Scouring of Lethe – Participated alongside the Grey Knights and the Ordo Malleus in the destruction of the Flame Falcons Chapter [battlefleet Gothic rulebook, DATE?, pXX?].

 

Alongside the Aurora Chapter, the White Consuls took part in the Liberation of the Ophidian Subsector, culminating in the purging of the Wyrd-kin and the subsequent victory parade on Vogel Passionata [Malleus, Dan Abnett, 2001, pXX*]. Unlike the Aurora Chapter, it is never mentioned the strength in which they appear. They are described as 'glittering and terrifying' [Malleus, Dan Abnett, 2001, pXX*]; and were directly in charge of guarding the imprisoned Alpha-level psykers.

 

A Sergeant Kurvel appears in the Vogel Passionata Great Triumph, and is described as 'particularly large' [Malleus, Dan Abnett, 2001, pXX*].

The novel Dark Creed contains the most detailed look at the White Consuls so far.

Pg. 26, the White Consuls Proconsul and coadjutor rule Boros system.

 

Pg 34. Proconsul Ostorius of the White Consuls is Ultramar born

 

Pg 37. Thw White consuls have a ranking system of Coadjutor and Proconsul. Every battle brother serves as a Coadjutor, but only a few veterans become Proconsuls.

The White Consuls have two Chapter Masters.Cymar Xydias Titus Valens, one patrols the Eye of Terror while the other directs operations from Sabatine. The chapter’s fortress monastery is located ‘’high in there mountains’’. Cymar has been Chapter Master for 1200 years.

 

Pg.80, the White consuls have 3 battle barges and more than a dozen strike cruisers. They are Divine Splendor and Righteous Fury.

 

The Consuls are spread far and wide across fifty systems.

 

A unit called the Praetorian squads are mentioned as guarding the homeworld, but nothing elaborating beyond that.

 

Pg 82. Pg.190 The Captain of the 2nd is names Augustus, the Captain of the 5th is Marcus Decimus. Captain Sulinus commands the third.

 

Pg 114, the Captain of the 7th is Cato Paulinus. A battle barge named the Sword of Deliverance is named

 

Pg. 189 lists the last battle barge as the Sword of Truth

 

Pg. 402. Almost five full companies of the chapter are lost.

 

 

This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are other White Consuls mentioned, however they are all very minor characters and I shall do them later. The White Consul seems to be a fairly divergent Codex Chapter, they reference the codex several times in the novel and are implied to revere it, yet they have two Chapter Masters and a system of protectorship.

 

Apparently, it not outright said but implied that the White Consuls recruit from their protectorate worlds and from Ultramar itself.

 

However this book contains contridictions. Such as saying the Consuls have 3 Battle Barges yet naming four. A ship is described as a strike cruiser one page, and then called a battle barge on another. Despite this it is the largest and most detailed look at the Chapter.

Cool; just didn't want you to have to go to all the effort of scouring the text again – it was a pretty involved job. I thank the heavens the other Primogenitors don't have novels about them yet! :blink:
