ManticoreLegion
I've been out of the picture for a while. This I had in mind for a while. It's going straight to priming and painting, updates in a few days. Go to the BLOG or WEBSITE to see what its all about. Hope you enjoy, Manticore http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/julius-antigonus1.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197114-ultramarine-bust-julius-antigonus-dreadnought/ Share on other sites

ManticoreLegion
Thanks for the feedback, highly appreciated. I just primed the sucker and if I had known I would have put these pictures up, they are much crispier. The cable work took more time then the actual sculpt if you can believe that. Im happy how it turns out, now hopefully I will do it justice with the painting. Edemia
Fantastic work. I see this and I hear Metallica's "One" in my head. Imperialis_Dominatus
Fantastic work. I see this and I hear Metallica's "One" in my head. Thematically that song fits much better with Chaos Dreads (who are generally unwilling to enter their prisons) but I can see that (at least until "God" "wakes" the Marine in question and he can HULK SMASH the foes of the Emperor... even in death). Sweet sculpting job though, I'd like to see it painted as well. ManticoreLegion
Got a few messages saying that it would be a good idea to show it primed to get a better picture (no pun intended) of the bust. To answer other questions, the cables were made out of lead wire then I wrapped either plastic wire or smaller lead cables around the wire. Kinda time consuming but it was well worth it I think. Julius is getting painted as we speak. http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/img_2247.jpg http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/img_2246.jpg http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/img_2245.jpg http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/img_2243.jpg http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/img_2242.jpg http://blacksaints.files.wordpress.com/2010/04/img_2248.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197114-ultramarine-bust-julius-antigonus-dreadnought/#findComment-2352290 Share on other sites
Rabidus
Outstanding model...I mean really, really fantastic. Very unique and just choc-full of character and well thought out details, which actually feel like they make sense. Are you going to mount it in a resin block, like its floating in embryonic like fluids? Now, this is a slightly weird, but...how did you do your undercoat? It just looks like the smoothest, purest undercoat I've ever seen. What paint/spray range do you use and where can I get some? Thanks (in advance for any advice and for sharing this figure!) - Rabidus Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197114-ultramarine-bust-julius-antigonus-dreadnought/#findComment-2352532 Share on other sites

ManticoreLegion
Rabidus : Primer is GW Skull white of all products. I know what you mean, when i took the pictures I had the same reaction, it look so smooth. I guess its the smoothness of the bust itself I tend to sand a lot magic sculpt. For the floating part, not for this bad boy. I am currently working on an other project and the bust will be, like you said, in fluid. Pictures soon! Wiplash: Tanx for noticing! You would be surprised how many people didnt see it as a replacement spine and who didnt see the bionic arm partially removed (well, in a Dreadnought case, no need for bionics right?) I had some issues while creating him . Its difficult to know what a SM looks like naked. I had to go with what Phil Sibbering did :SM PHYSIO I went through hundreds of pages of comics and pictures...finally, I sent it to Graham McNeill and he totally approved. Wow. Maybe we will see a Julius Antigonus Venerable Dreadnought in the books one day!! lol More cables will be linked to the front of the torso but for painting purposes I had to keep'em off. AL.
i will be very dissapointed if you dont make an entire dreadnought, just so you know! Lestat
That is just simply amazing! It reminds me of the scene in Matrix when Neo awakens - when all the tubes pop from his back. I always imagined that sort of amniotic tank set-up for the inside of a dreadnought. Can't wait to see this painted! Philip S
I had some issues while creating him . Its difficult to know what a SM looks like naked. It provides exactly what I need for a bunch of things. My collegue and I are working on a city amoung other things and your site is very instructive. You see we read all the books from the BL but putting it in painting is just so different. again, tanx for the great site. Starks333
the link with the "naked marine" looks...very awkward i must say the head is too small, the body is too wide, and the muscles would not function or he would have 0 range of motion, he wouldnt even be able to do what the marine next to him is doing in this pic: http://philipsibbering.com/WH40KRP/Images/...ne_Size_750.jpg he would be incredibly slow runner, and while hes a hulk, he wouldnt be a very able fighter anyways, on topic: i have found with many of your busts, this one and in the past, they come across as statues, not living things, because the poses are very static and lifeless, expressions included... specifically how awkward it is to hold your arm against your side like that, all the action is on the details and not the actual focus of the piece its good work, but the composition and result isnt as good as it could be in my opinion I will comment on painting when i see it  Alex Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/197114-ultramarine-bust-julius-antigonus-dreadnought/#findComment-2356410 Share on other sites
