Thanks mate! :P

I'm making this next guy in complete Mk III armour including backpack and weapons. I'm currently trying to make an Mk III pattern bolter to go with him.

getting there now mate, nice work! :tu:

can't wait to see it finished and painted, you've actually inspired me to start work on all the scouts i've been massing for my SOTE scout themed army, i had planned to wait until after CoCIV but i got a buzz from reading your thread and started last night heh

Here's a handy reference picture that I dug out that should help people understand the size of the model a little better. So my guy stands a fraction taller than this and roughly about the same width.

I've had a fairly unproductive day to day but have had a little time to get a few bits done. I've started on the right leg and am building up the detail a little before I start the start the top of the leg.

I really like the work you have done so far and I like what you did with these Marines, too.

But I think that you are missing a big opportunity with this MkI dread. As it stands now, you have managed to create a more or less acurate rescaled version of the old model. Many people like the old 40k designs, but I believe that we are much better of with the more detailed and more dynamic models of today.

So while I think that the Dread right now is an amazing example of your skill with Green Stuff, it has the potential to be much more than just a rescaled model if you keep the basic torso structure, but changed the legs and arms into something more dynamic and modern. Not just a rescale, but also a remake.

It's still great work, and I'm looking forward to what you come up with next either way, but maybe this is something to think about? ^^

Cheers,

Peter

Cheers guys!

Cathar: Yeah I know what you mean mate. What I'm going to be doing is making this guy as accurately as possible to the original then I'll be blinging him up to make it look like he's been through ten thousand years of conflict. I will be making another four of these for an Iron Warriors pre-heresy army I'm working on and will probably try and make the model a little more dynamic.

Lykos: Yeah go for it mate, I always encourage people to use my stuff for their own armies. :tu:

This next one is probably the strangest sculpt that I have made to date. A Mk I Actual Scale Rhino.

Just filling out the surface at the moment but will be adding the wheel and tracks along with the rest of the detailing once the surface is covered. It's going extremely quickly at the moment.

So a dread just wasnt big enough for you or what?

Then again, insanity is a virtue. At least that's what I've been telling myself for years.

Looking forward to when the "base" is done and we'll get to see some of the details! ;)

Cheers!

Alexander Fogh Pedersen: Yeah that's the problem when making bigger marines you look at the other bits and it looks a lot smaller than usual. By the time I'm finished everything will be bigger to level out the scale creep. :D

Trygon: I'm rubbish with plasticard so but can sculpt fairly quickly. I know it probably seems a little nuts to most but I find it a heck of a lot easier to do it like this. :)

fancy trying your hand at one of these? <_<

i dreamed of being able to make one of these back when i started 40k and never got round to it due to insufficient pocket money funds

for anyone not as old in the tooth as me info is HERE

Cheers guys!

Cornelias: I remember the Spartan well and did I build one as a kid. Maybe it's a possibility although I'd probably arm it as a Crusader to get the extra room inside.

Mithril hound: Just out of interest is there a source for the Scythes being Salamanders? If that is the case it'll change my plans slightly. i could get away with a Mk I for them though even though they aren't a first founding chapter.

What I'm currently looking at is using this in a Pre-Heresy army now and keeping the Scythes for the Advanced Space Crusade game. Me and Apologist are talking about having a battle with just actual scale marines, him with his fantastic Ultramarines and me with the Iron Warriors.

Terminatorinhell: Well that is a definite possibility mate. Now that I have worked out a set of measurements it's definitely on the cards but it will be a bit of a beast. Because I'm going pre-heresy for the Ultramarines/Iron Warriors battle I'm going to be making robots for the legion like the Conqueror as well as a few other cool toys. :(

Back in first edition and Adeptus Titanicus the Contemptor pattern dreadnought fought in units of four. It was also possible to pilot the dreadnought via mind impulse link rather than being surgically implanted, so between battles the pilot could disconnect and leave the machine.

So what I'm going to do is field them using the Space Wolves codex lead by Bjorn and supported by three dreadnoughts as an Iron Warrior dreadnought line breaker squadron. We've still yet to put together the details but we are basing the narrative on a small story in the original epic Space Marine system, should be really cool though because his army is brilliant. :)

I've done a bit of a recalculation regarding the rhino and it appears that it's currently 1.5cm too short and just over 10mm not wide enough. This is where I'm glad that I made it from foam board because it'll be say to correct. :)

Here's how it currently stands.

Mithrel Hound: Ah I see, cheers for the link mate. ;)

I think that is mostly fan fiction because up until the recent Legends of the Space Marines there was very little to go on outside of the ASC game and the original epic space marine scenarios. :)

Lord_Azoth: Thanks mate. :)

Rats I've been found out!!!

Yes my army is completely edible! :P

Warhammer 40k Wiki is all partially fanfic in many parts and can never be trusted. It doesn't have the same canon-only policy and sourcing requirements Lexicanum adheres to.

btw Doghouse, you must do this banner somewhere;
