As for the freehand, I do remember someone doing a tutorial once - don't know if it was in a thread or the tutorials section. Doing a search might turn something up. I've also got my hands on a Contemptor - my god are there a lot of parts... and NO INSRUCTIONS! :P So many cool ball joints and hinge joints on it though, it's going to be super cool to pose. Too big a contrast? Stick out like a sore thumb? Go back to black? I think may wait until the minis complete and see if the use of red elsewhere (like the tilt shield) helps pull it back a bit. Is the Word Bearer obviously a Word bearer? Is it just me or is the green pipe pulling the eye too much? Bit of progress tonight. I decided I'd not manage to paint him on he base as there was too much going on and would end up making mistakes and continually correcting stuff after... So popped him off the base and got cracking on. I think by the time they reached Calth they had for the most part adopted the crimson previously reserved for the Gal Vorbek if we are being fluffy. I've taken a little leeway by going with the dark granite grey of pre heresy and adding a little crimson detail. Main reason for this was that I didn't want the strong crimson of the dead marine to detract from, and pull the eye away from, the actual contemptor model itself. I really enjoyed assembling and painting this for the most part. The poseablilty and options in the kit are truly fantastic. There were times when I couldn't see the bugger far enough - noteably after I'd finished the blue, going round and recoating everything else in black was relentlessly tedious.... It's been a bit of a learning curve for a few techniques. I've tried a bit more work on adding small chips and scratches using just paint, and I've had a go with weathering powders too.
