Thunderwolf mounts

The big issue will be price. Canis in Finecast is $49.50usd. Let us assume that GW will NOT price them similar and put them at $30usd. That runs a pack of 5 for $150usd with a chance of us not even liking the damn things. Mythicast will run you about $90usd with shipping for 5 AND they have the additional Wolf Lord/Iron Priest models AND made the damn sets of Fenrisian wolves.

I am going to hang so much GW bling off my Mythicast wolves to make them 75% GW and legal if the new kits coming out are crap.

Long time no post but:

Has any one come across mechanical wolf heads that would work for 40K scale? I have tried to make a few mechanical "werewolf" looking TWC but have had no luck with the heads. If I could get or find some, then I would actually get to post pictures now that I am getting back into 40k.

The Paulson games wolves are really good and the price is also nice. The only hard bit is doing riding legs for a standard SW but a bit of greenstuff and a knife are all it takes. If you don't do such a good job on the legs, just make a greenstuff fur to cover up the bad bits :nuke:

I had the pleasure of receiving my Paulson games wolves today.

I purchased the wolf kit back with the riders leg. They are so awesome. I could not be happier with them or the service. I Did have a few questions which I asked via email. All question were answered super fast and hassle free.

If you are after some wolves this is the place to get them from.

Anyone happen to have any photos of the new Ogre Kingdoms Mournfang Cavalry next to a marine? I'm liking the conversion potential there, and they'll be pure GW so no issues there, but from the WD pics they look a little small. There's the Stonehorn model as well, but it looks a little to limited on modelling options to me to be of good use for a pack of TWC.

If your after more mechanical looking TWC, take a look at the Warhammer Fantasy Bloodcrushers of Khorne.

As promised, here are some pics of my thunderwolf cavalry using the mournfang model. Tried to take different angles so you guys can see the all around model. And then there is one comparison pic for size.

Scratch that, says photobucket links are not allowed. So, photobucket and imageshack are both not allowed by the administrator, any suggestions?

Second try,

Ha, got it! Here are the rest.

That's true, I wanted to see what they looked like with more wolf feet then the normal ones so I have one with the feet as is and the other one that you see. Also, apology to Brother Ramses as the wolf is converted. I posted it just to give you guys the size and how it compares next to a marine.

Naw, that kinda wait out the door pages ago as people just kept posting converted stuff.

The problem I have is mixed dynamics.

The Mournfang Cavalry look like they are seriously just plodding along as both their leg joints, knee joints, and flat hooves indicate. However the Wolves in the saddles and boots in flung back stirrups appear to be hanging on for dear life.

I knew the molded in saddles were going to be a problem for mounting Wolves. It really would be ok if the SW on top was sitting straight and in the saddle. As it looks now, the SW look to be hanging on for life while the mount is just grazing or something.

New contender from Armorcast. Not my favorite of the 3rd party twolves out there, but pretty good and the price is awesome at $11 USD

WHOA!!!!

Ok now I am loving that set of jaws.

I wonder if I could use a set of my own legs as those legs almost don't even match much. Maybe a set of green-stuffed stir-ups would help.

Edit: I sent Armorcast and inquiry hoping to get some info on future plans for this model line to be presented here.

Back on the jaws, those teeth make me think about rows of teeth growing to replace teeth. They also make me think of exactly what is mentioned in the codex as those large canines being very prized trophies.

Edit 2: Yea, if Armorcast makes a range of different poses for this model, I am making the switch from my Mythicast to these models in a heartbeat.

I'm actually very pleased to see this sculpt. It's the first non-GW TWC I've seen that has given me even the slightest temptation to get one.

What I like about it is that not only has this company broken away from the "giant fluffy wolf" mindset, where it just ends up looking like something out of Princess Mononoke, but this company has tried to emulate the raw, gritty artwork of the 5E codex (see below) that I feel has really brought the SWs into a new era of brutality and "murder-make" and less from the older notion of drunken, bar-brawling, barbarian, space vikings.

As to the Mournfang conversion, I think removing the secondary saddle will help a lot (by reducing the height on the rider) and actually repositioning the legs as well as possibly shaving down that hump on its back. You shouldn't be afraid to cut into the model a little if you're already willing to use GS on it.. just patch up any areas you feel you removed too much and/or adjusting the leg joints via GS.

I'll be interested in seeing the mournfangs + warhounds, though I think the warhound head will be too small. The mournfang looks pretty huge.

I actually rather like the mournfang model and might get a few myself. It doesn't look tremendously "wolf-like", but then the descriptions and images of the Thunderwolves in the codex more closely match that of a solidly built mornfang than a regular wolf anyway.

I just ordered mournfangs and some chaos warhounds, im going to put the head of the warhound onto the body of the mournfang. I'll post some pics when ive done some converting.

Having used chaos warhounds for my fenrisian wolf conversions and owning a couple mounrfang heads, I can tell you that the size difference will NOT match up. The warhound heads are too small, perhaps by half. You're better off GSing the mournfang head as a base than using the warhounds. Not to mention, even if you did use a warhound head, note how the mournfang head begins to taper from the HUGE shoulders down.. it'll look like its head was stuck in a vice even more than the current model.
