Dono1979
The Crusade finally has some armour! The majority of my vehicles are done, just missing the Predators and Dreadnoughts (still awaiting parts to convert the Dread arms). All of the Razorbacks are convertible to Rhinos, with four Heavy Bolter Razorbacks for the four Crusader Squads and two Lasbacks for the two Fire Support Squads, the seventh Razorback is for the Sword Brethren as is the LRC. The Vindicator has a metallic siege blade as I really don't like the hazard stripes and didnt think it would gel real well with the Crusade. Marshal Laeroth
Not going to lie, I'm definitely a fan of the script on the Rhino hatch that comes together as a Maltese cross. Imperialist
Just like Laeroth, i really like that cross-from-scribbles stuff. Your vehicles otherwise have their own unique look. Firepower
Yeah, the scripture-cross is a stroke of genius, buku points there. My one issue is that they all look kind of...flat? It's tedious, no doubt, but some highlights can go a long way. Hell of an armored column at any rate! Dono1979
Yeah, the scripture-cross is a stroke of genius, buku points there. My one issue is that they all look kind of...flat? It's tedious, no doubt, but some highlights can go a long way. Hell of an armored column at any rate! What about some battle damage do you think that would be enough to break it up a little? I did ask him for a pretty subdued paint scheme, I didnt want anything too blingy or suchlike, a nice simple Black Templar armored division. The scripture cross was all his doing though, I asked him to the Sword Brethren rhino a little more special then the standard ones and he said he had an idea. That was it and I reckon it looks awesome, about as much bling as I would want and I think it would be about as fancy as the brothers would go. I might ask him to do some battle damage on the Pred's and see how they turn out and if it works well I will do it across the rest of the force. It will probably fit well with the infantry as well, considering I want them to be a little banged up considering they have been on protracted campaign and are wearing Heresy era armour. Trignama
Dude that cross formed from text design is SICK! Wish I woulda thought of that! And please tell me what you did to convert those speeders, I love that enclosed design on them. Everything looks good, my only suggestion would be to do the highlights, it takes a long time and is redious but more than worth the end result. Looking good tho buddy :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/2/#findComment-2597269 Share on other sites
Dono1979
Thanks for the feedback everyone, appreciate it. Have confirmed with Steve (the painter) and we will do some battle damage on the Preds and see how that looks, though dont want to go over board with scarring and suchlike. Will probably pick up another three Lascannon turrets for the Razorbacks to make them a little more felxible in changing in and out (five HB and five Las in total). Might also look at picking up a second vindicator to enable a ranged list. @ Trignama - The Landspeeder is actually a Forge World Tempest found here They are manned by a single marine and have slightly different stats to a regular Landspeeder but I am using them to count as regular Speeders. The enclosed top makes them look much sleeker and also reflects that they are not Open Topped, I like the model a hell of a lot more than the GW one, just the weapon load outs are not as accurately reflected. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/2/#findComment-2597470 Share on other sites

Also i Ammm aaaa BIG FUn of Tempesttssss! hope are new codex! will have them as option :) Yeah they are sweet models. The photos dont actually do them justice, the FW pics may be better and show the missile launchers either side of the cockpit, it is a pretty compact design which looks great, a lot closer to a Fast Attack vehicle IMO. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/2/#findComment-2597539 Share on other sites
Dono1979
Finally some of my long awaited parcels have started arriving and I can start doing some more of the models which were waiting on parts. Decided to change the weapon allocations a little. The Crusader Power Weapon will be an oversized chainsword held in a power fist, whilst the Neophytes CCW will be shaved Power Swords (that dont have the power vanes) as I had about thirty of them for some reason. I'm still waiting on parts for my Assault troops but I have enough stuff to finish off the Crusaders and their Neophytes now including the Fire Support Teams, so that will be the bulk of the infantry out of the way (80 models anyway). http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/002-5.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/004-6.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/005-6.jpg The neophytes are definitely not going to be everyones cup of tea but I have gotten as close to the image I had in my mind as I think I can without do full custom models. Although I wanted to keep the space sci-fi feel I wanted the entire infantry force to have a medieval slant which the Crusader and Iron armour started and hopefully the Neophytes finish to a certain extent by making them look more squirish/men at arms? http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/006-6.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/007-6.jpg So off to start building the other 4 squads. Dennis
Oh yea, Iron Armor! Cool idea on the powerweapon, like it. Not sure about the neophyte though, the head looks out of proportion on the pics. Lord Drungar
on the neophytes, you might have a better proportioned head if you use bretonnian knights of the realm heads with the rediculous ornamentation carved off, or (blasphemy, I know) chaos warrior helms with the horns shaved off  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/2/#findComment-2609085 Share on other sites
Dono1979
Yeah that was the initial thoughts when I stuck it on (very little carving was done as it was rushed to get to work) so I might grab the knife and start cutting it done a little. I do like the actual style of the helmet though, the barbute is a pretty hard one to come across in many other models so I am pretty keen to keep with it. Most of the other models are great helms or bascinets. I'll do a bit of carving and see what I can come up with. Tyrannicide
The cross of scripture on the Rhino hatch is such a clever idea. I might have to do the same in my upcoming Crusade, man. Awesome stuff lies within this log, keep churning out models! Dono1979
All righty I did some carving on the Neophytes heads and it now sits much better, the neck portion was sitting up too high and elevating the head a little too much. I carved a larger neck section into the scout torso and also trimmed the neck of the head down to nothing and put a slight gradient on it. Then using a tiny blob of greenstuff I have mounted it so that there is just the smallest of gaps between the bottom of the front part of the helmet and the torso, it looks much better (IMO) and I am pretty happy with them now. Just have to try and mod some variety into the BT Power Swords so that they dont have the same poses. Hopefully get some pics of them up tonight when I finish work. Not entirely happy with how my Sword Brethren are turning out, they are looking too bulky, busy, something. I have bought a cheap pack of metal SB to through a bit of variety amongst them as well, but there is something not quite right. Again I will do some fiddling to see if I can change it a bit and also get a couple of pics up to see if people can make some suggestions. Again the head may not be working well. On a positive note Steve (the painter) has sent pics through of the two Predators which have been completed with the new weathered look. I am pretty happy with it and think that it reflects a campaign worn but well maintained BT tank. The rest of the vehicles will have the same style weathering applied to break up the 'new' look on them. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/korocite/Misc/IMG_2776.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/korocite/Misc/IMG_2777.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/korocite/Misc/IMG_2778.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/korocite/Misc/IMG_2779.jpg cheers Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/2/#findComment-2611656 Share on other sites
Firepower
Looking good, much more flavor to those two tanks than the prior lot. Still a lot of empty space that I personally wouldn't put to waste (bits, scripture, whatever I could find) but that's just my way of doing things. Is that highlighting done with drybrush? If so, I think I need to touch up my own a bit: certainly looks better than the tedious freehand that I use. Brother Mitch
I must say Brother, your models are impressive!! the weathering has added a nice extra edge to your vehicles. I bet they strike fear into every heretic that you face on the tabletop!! You have given me great inspirations for when I (eventually) start my own Black Templar force. Although I want to snow weather mine, as I am a bit obsessed with snow effects! Anyways keep up the good work and i await your next update!!! Dono1979
Did some more Neophytes and started carving the BT power swords to try and give more poses, they are always going to be somewhat limited, but no matter. I should be able to play around with the elbow joint easy enough and the bulk of the upper arm is under the shoulder pad so can be pretty rough and quick with the GS. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/001-6.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/002-6.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/003-7.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/004-7.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/005-7.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/006-7.jpg That will do for the neophytes for the moment, I know that I can finish them off in an evening, I need to start working on the terminators and keep fiddling with the Sword Brethren. The SB may need new heads, the current ones are looking to slim and narrow for the bulked out bodies I think. I may grab a dozen or so of the BT Mk II heads, it should keep with the theme of the Iron and Crusade armour, but be a little different and also have BT markings on them. Finding it really hard not to just 'ahh screw it, its only the Power Armour SB, I'm never going to field them anyway....' Dono1979
I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments, support, input and general feedback for the creation of my crusade so far. This is effectively the very first army which I have ever built, I have attempted a few before but given up (built forty skeletons or a dozen dwarves etc). I seriously think that forums and threads like these help immensely when trying to keep the motivation and morale going. Here are some shots of the two Sword Brethren I have made so far, one multimelta, the other an interchangeable special weapon. Although the MM does look very bulky, the other guy isnt too bad and I dont think the heads are as bad as I first thought. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/007-8.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/008-6.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/010-3.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/016-3.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/015-3.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/014-3.jpg I will try and get some CCW & BP ones done and see.... Dono1979
A fair bit of progress and movement in the last few days. Hoping to get more done this week as well, the motivation seems to be nice and high and the bulk of the units are now fully sorted and I know what I'm doign with them rather than still tentatively planning ideas. Terminators have been started on, awaiting more parts for the Neophytes, Fire Support Initiates and Assault Initiates and will continue with another squad of Crusader Initiaites. The banners are nearly complete, the back banners are done. The main Crusade banner is part complete at rough stage and is about to get detailed. I am alos getting some vehicular banners done and might use them as alternative back banners (anyone ever used them for back banners, do they look ok?) or for objective markers. Really happy with the banners, finally some nice pagaentry in one of my armies! Once go on along with a heap of seals and Templarish goodies, it should Templar the models up nicely. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/KildrechBanners.jpg Cheers Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/2/#findComment-2612716 Share on other sites
Dono1979
Ok its been a while since an update however I have done a fair bit, unfortunately I just didnt get time to take pics before I posted them off. Previously I completed: 5 Fire Support Initiates 30 Crusader Initiates 5 CCW & BP Neophytes 5 Terminators with every available weapon load out magnetised 1 Marshal in Termintor 1 Marshal in Power Armour (cheated and used the POLC Sword Brethren model, gonna use him rarely) So this weekend I got motivated again (plus my second last shipment arrived) and managed to get another chunk done: 15 CCW & BP Neophytes 10 Crusader Initiates Emperors Champion (missing the banner, being painted atm) Chaplain So that completes all the Crusader Initiates, all the CCW & BP Neophytes and one of two of the chaplains. I still have to make another: 5 Terminators with full loadouts 5 Fire support Initiates 10 Shotgun Neophytes 1 Chaplain 2 Techmarines 10 Sword Brethren 10 Assault Troops 2 Dreadnoughts (well their arms at least) Thinking of maybe doing some Neophytes using the Empire Order Shields instead of BP just to give them a little bit more of a Knightish feel to them. Anyway here are some pics: Crusaders http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P132801_30-01-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P132802_30-01-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1328_30-01-11.jpg Neophyes http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P133001_30-01-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1330_30-01-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1331_30-01-11.jpg Emperor's Champion http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P133301_30-01-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1333_30-01-11.jpg Chaplain http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P133401_30-01-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1334_30-01-11.jpg Hopefully get some more work done over the rest of the day and maybe get some Terminators or Assault Troops done (though I'm waiting on their Storm Shields in the last shipment). Dono1979
Well got some more work done on the IC's this weekend, plus planned out the Sword Brethren a little more. Having real trouble with those guys, and all for a unit which will probably never see the game board. Added a few bits to the existing Chaplain to make him more... chaplainish. Plus made the second one. Also completed the techmarine with fully changeable weapon load out, can have a full harness or just the servo arm, can also either have power axe and bolter or power sword and storm shield. Lastly did the initial work on the Fighting Company Champion (may also sub as a EC if I dont want to field the main one with the banner). Still have to attach shoulder pads and combat shield to him.
