philsminions
Man, I was excited to check out some professional made jetbikes, when to my dismay, I see this at the top of their home page: 23/2/11 "Unfortunately we have discontinued production of the Jetbike, Assault Sprue, and Mechanized Fists. We feel that diverting Zealot Miniatures to produce more inspired miniatures is the right choice in the long term for the company. We hope to repopulate the store with some more interesting resin in the next few weeks. Thanks for all your kind support and feedback." You guys were right on. Zealot Minis put out a press release yesterday stating they are moving in a different direction....I guess no more 40k-esque stuff? They have three items you can currently purchase. Bummer. Makes wonder "why". No sales? Muscled out by our big brother GW? Where did you end up finding some, Dono? I'm gonna have go searching for them now...I just have to see these for myself!! Dono1979
All righty, the army is coming to a completion at a reasonable rate, huge amounts are completed and fully painted, and I cant take any pics because I dont have the models yet! lol soon... so soon. However I now have a problem: Drop Pods..... I am thinking of getting two Drop Pods to use for my Durandal Dreadnoughts, however I am torn between two options: Forge World Dreadnought Drop Pods Pros- they are huge they are Forge World (is that a pro??) Cons- the price tag is huge! they are huge (transport?) GW Drop Pod with Chapter House Heresy Door Pros- Half the price of FW ones The heresy doors might look pretty cool with all the heresy armour Cons- They wont fit a Dreadnought in side (but really how often do you sit the Dreadnought IN the Drop Pod?) http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/components/com_virtuemart/show_image_in_imgtag.php?filename=_Heresy__Armored_4b525a1d8a9a6.jpg&newxsize=90&newysize=90&fileout= What are peoples thoughts? Head Mook
Cons-They wont fit a Dreadnought in side (but really how often do you sit the Dreadnought IN the Drop Pod?) Ever look at a Rhino and wonder how cozy it is inside for 10 supermen, even without an engine? If size is the only concern, I say rock it! Save yourself some $$ and spread the financial support/love around. philsminions
I agree. The pre heresy doors will look awesome on any pod. They will definitely fit the style/look of your crusade. I say just do the conversion with the doors and any other bits/parts you feel necessary and save the cash. Can't wait to see the final product! Eberious
Just had a look thru your thread here, and where you live ? as I is a'coming for your chapter keep. ^_^ That thing is all kinds of awesome. My mate has the sets to make such terrian, once I have completed my army will have to rise a mighty chapter keep myself. I plan on using the top floor to that new-ish WHF watchtower thingy as part of the main tower. marine77
You know Santa Cruz Warhammer has a great DiY Dreadnought drop pod tutorial. It is super cheap to make and relatively easy as well, though you will need to jimmy with the pieces a bit. Dono1979
The first of the completed parcels arrived this afternoon. Absolutely thrilled with the results they are EXACTLY what I was picturing for my battle worn Black Templars, cut off, besieged and fighting on an extended campaign. The vehicles have been weathered now, I haven't taken an extensive amount of photos of them, only some sampling so you can compare them with what they previously looked like. I do apologise for the quality of the pics, they are from my camera phone as I left my camera in Melbourne on my last trip. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1951_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1950_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194902_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194901_03-03-11.jpg Mainly concentrating on the infantry. First up the Penance squads, those Initiates who have committed some dishonorable action and are doing penance in the form that they are not permitted to take a Close Combat weapon to battle and are thus denied the honor of hand to hand combat, the ultimate punishment for a Black Templar. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194303_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1944_03-03-11.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2676902 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Lastly are some terminators and the Marshal in Terminator armour. Throughout all of the models, I am really loving the scripting on the armour, especially after reading about how the Initiates keep track of their history by inscribing it on their armour themselves. The terminators have turned out wonderfully, the grey knightisk heads, the heresy style shoulders and the chain mail tabards really make them suit the theme I feel. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194601_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1946_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194701_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1947_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194801_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194802_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1948_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P194803_03-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1949_03-03-11.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2676908 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Second parcel arrived today, containing the rest of the Crusader Initiates and their Neophytes, first half of the Assault Troops, both Chaplains, the EC, the Techmarine and both Dreadnoughts. This only leaves the remaining 10 Terminators, the Marshal in Power Armour, the Sword Brethren, Drop Pods, remaining Assault Troops, remaining Penance Squad and their Neophytes (shotgun). Once the jetbikes arrive I will start work on them as well, but they were a last minute addition and wont be done for a fair few weeks yet. First up the Emperors Champion, he was modeled to empahise the Banner, something which I wanted to have on the table each game but it would be rare for me to actually field a banner bearer: http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1900_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P185901_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1859_16-03-11.jpg The two dreadnoughts, when they are Durandal they will be using dual claws, whilst when they swap to a ranged weapon the DCCW will be a converted Force Weapon (still coming) http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1858_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1857_16-03-11.jpg One of the Chaplains, I wasnt entirely happy with the available ones so I tried making mine from left over parts of Mk III armour and chaplainy looking things. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190001_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190002_16-03-11.jpg Techmarine: http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190201_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190202_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1903_16-03-11.jpg Assault Troop http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190501_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190502_16-03-11.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P1906_16-03-11.jpg My Objective markers http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/P190601_16-03-11.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2690498 Share on other sites
Dark Scipio
Just a recent update.... Looking at getting the below Keep to accompany the Crusade and the fluff of the Crusade which revolves around the Crusade reactivating a Keep and being besieged. http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD001a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD002a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD003a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD004a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD005a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD006a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD007a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD009a.jpg http://www.dmgaming.com.au/Fortress/HADD010a.jpg All up it weighs 70kgs!! However it is pretty spectacular! -Dono Most awesome. Made it in my Top 5 Terrain Pieces/Boards. However the Red Banners with a white Cricle and a black Cross look a little bit like Nazi banners. The ones with the Black Stripe look like Wehrmacht. :P :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2691153 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Yeah that's the plan, I have been resisting the urge to do a group shot for a while. I really want to wait until the entire Crusade has been finished and hopefully in the Fortress. Still waiting on: Remaining Terminators (to make 14 in total, 10 multiweapon, 4 Cyclone Missile Launchers) Reamining Assault Troops (to make 10 in total) Remaining Penance Sqauds (to make two sqauds of 5 with three different Heavy weapons per sqaud, Missile, Plasma, Las) Drop Pods for the Dreadnoughts (using Heresy style armour plating) Sword Brethren (able to make various configurations of command squads and normal SB sqauds) Marshal in Power Armour All the above are in the midst of getting painted as we speak, shouldnt be too long. The last element which was a late addition to the Crusade is a dozen Jetbikes (counts as Bikers), however they are still being shipped and I need to work out exactly what weapon load outs and IC's are going to be put on them, plus then build them, so they could be a while. I think I will take a group shot before they are completed. Although I am trying to my hardest there is a chance that I may not be able to get the Fortress in the end, I am having a hell of a time trying to organise its transportation down to my location. It is located around 1250 km (780 miles?) north of me and weighs over 70kg (150 pounds). Normal post has been rules out due to the immense size and weight. Courier transport may be viable but would cost a small fortune and there is a huge risk of damage. My only hope is that I can find someone traveling to the area who can pick it up, or I go for a road trip myself and pick it up. One hell of a drive though.... -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2693947 Share on other sites
Marshal Wilhelm
Will any GK plastics be added to them mix? Being able to add BT shoulders, scratching off the ][ and maybe even a tabard front or BT SS will really Templar them up. That is to say ~ make them hardcore  I am without dollars, but when I get some, the PA dudes will become my power weapon Templars. Hopefully we get relic blade knights in our next Dex.... The Terms with swords can have a FW SS in the off hand. Delicious. Templars really are the most handsome of all the Marines. So much modelling potential. Blood Angels can keep their really, really, ridiculously good looking moniker though :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2693962 Share on other sites
Dono1979
So far I havent seen anything that has really grabbed me from the GK kits enough to make me remodel anything. The Mk III power armour is pretty unique and not easily mixed with other bits. I made a conscious decision not to put Tabards on the regular Initiates, only because I really like the look of the heresy torso's, plus I would have to green stuff all the back pieces of the tabards (cant stand the single front 'tabard' as it looks like an apron). My Sword Brethren Squad are probably the only models which may be replaced with some GK pieces, because they were the ones which didnt have any Mk III armour used on them and was kind of pieced together in an adhoc fashion. I needed to have some to complete the Crusade but would probably rarely field them. All the Initiates have the Templar icons on both shoulder pads which are the awesome looking Mk III ones, whilst all the Neophytes and SB have the BT plastic moulded ones to ensure that everyone in the Crusade has Templar iconography on the arms. The Terminators will also all have BT Storm Shields, the Techmarine has one of them, the rest are still being painted. Plus I think the Terminators look pretty different to the GK ones with their shoulders and the chain maille tabards. The heads are about the only similarity. Most likely once this is complete, I will wait and see what a new Codex brings in way of new units or changed units. And then if the SB change or there are some sort of Paladin unit with Sword and Shield, I might make the new units from some combinations of GK and Mk III. I like the glaives and would love the idea of a Sword and Shield unit, would look beyond awesome. -dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2693975 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Thankyou, although all credit for the painting goes to Steve, he has been awesome with this project. It is invaluable to have someone who can bring to life your ideas but also someone who will say something when they think that an idea may not work and offer an alternative. I am very happy with the limited amount of kit bashing I have done and so happy with the way the models have turned out looking ancient and battle worn. Here is the test mini for the Sword Brethren squad which will be made up of a number of Death Watch. Although they will hardly ever be fielded, I really wanted to have a dozen or so of these guys and also to have them look a little different to the main Crusade, but still be tied in. They are the only survivors of a previous Crusade against the Necrons. http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/korocite/Misc/IMG_2855.jpg http://i224.photobucket.com/albums/dd130/korocite/Misc/IMG_2857.jpg -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2695138 Share on other sites
Dono1979
Well yesterday was great, got the third installment of the Crusade plus a dozen Zealot Jetbikes... slow international postage. The Jetbikes are beyone awesome and will make a great addition to the Crusade, also thinking of using the newly released Kromlech jetbikes as Attack Bikes, they are different enough from the Zealot ones to be seperate and they are a little beefier to look more like attack bikes. However I still need to assemble the jetbikes so that is a little down the track, in the meantime, here is the latest additions, I am now only waiting on two dreadnought arms (force weapons to be used as DCCW), two drop pods and five shooty Initiates. Dono1979
Once I find my camera and I dont have to use my dodgy phone camera I will take pics of the units with their transports in a bit more of an organised fashion plus an overall pic of the Crusade. The Drop Pods should be here in a week or so. As mentioned the bikes will be a while off as my funds are now spent and I selling the odd bit here and there to try and build up enough to buy the last few bits and pay to get them painted. The poor old IG component (the 1st Kildrech Crusaders) will have to wait a half a year or so before they get started. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2713970 Share on other sites
Dono1979
The last package arrived today (I'm still at work), containing the two Drop Pods with Pre Heresy style armour plating. Steve also slightly modified the inside to make them more suitbale for Dread Drop Pods rather than troops, they look awesome. Also included were the two DCCW (using the Force Weapon arms from the Furioso kits) and the last four heavy weapon marines. This now completes everything which I have finished modeling. The remaining stuff either hasnt arrived or hasnt been built yet. I will take some additional pics of the new stuff and hopefully will find my digital camera when I go to Melbourne this weekend so I can start taking some group shots of the entire Crusade. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/5/#findComment-2730415 Share on other sites
