Marshal Reinhard
In one word, delicious. simply adore the simple yet striking look of these latest additions, also, the shades on the bases and the weathering is gorgeous. Can you share what colors went into that? Never been a fan servitors of any kind, your unique solution might be the answer to my prayers. I will ask the painter what colours he used, I, unfortunately, suck at painting and so this is all commission work. I had no intention of destroying and dishonouring a perfectly good (and expensive) crusade of this size with m ineptitude! I'll post again with the paint colours when I have them. cheers Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3033125 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Im gonna start selling drugs or something if I hope to keep up with your Crusade ;) Try selling to your Resin/Plastic supplier and then you can simply do barter trades for each others fixes! ^_^ In all seriousness though, it has cost far less than it looks. The Australian Dollar has been fantastic lately and helped tremendously, but I have also been doing a lot of trading and selling of excess possessions.... like cars, sinks, wifes wedding dress, soul. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3035769 Share on other sites

Dono1979
No worries at all, I have rewritten it a few times but it largely stayed on the same theme, I had thought I had reposted it here, but I must have forgotten. Here are the plot threads which I am going to flesh out and write a short story, which will then incorporate the battels I have with the forces. - Imperial Tithe fleet reports that the frontier world of Kildrech Prime (lynch pin world controlling vast mining activities in the Kildrech System, bordering the Tau empire) is currently experiencing large scale rebellious activity which has interrupted the flow of Tithe generation. Tau suspected of fomenting the insurrection in preparation of invasion. - Imperial Guard regiments from Vengeance sent to suppress the rebellion and reinstate Imperial control. - Multi Regimental task Force arrives and rapidly secures the planet, eliminating small pockets of entrenched Tau throughout the planet. During the final pacification forces under the command of Colonel Drache discover an abandoned Black Templar Keep which has sustained some damage in the recent conflict. Word is sent to the Black Templars of the discovery. - Marshal Gerard returns from Oorlay Crusade against the Necron forces, severely under strength but victorious. Helbretch, believing Gerard needs time to recover, sends him as a Castellan to Kildrech with his surviving men to reactivate the discovered Keep and begin recruiting activities to assist with the Crusade of Punishment operating in neighbouring systems. (This part comes from the fact that the Marshal and a few of the Sword Brethren are from my original Templar force which was bought second hand from a guy who had built them around a Necron Crusade force called the Oorlay Crusade). - Castellan Gerard arrives with his forces and begins to repair and reactivate the slumbering Keep. Before the Keep is fully operational the Tau launches a full counter assault, decimating most of the Vengeance Guard units. - The surviving Imperial Guard forces regroup at the reactivating Black Templar Keep to defend against the Tau offensive. Castellan Gerard sends a request to Helbretch for immediate reinforcements in order to retain control of the system. - Helbretch responds by reinstating Gerard to full Marshal and declaring a new Crusade to secure the Kildrech System of Xenos infestation. A large Templar contingent is dispatched to reinforce Gerard’s besieged force. - With the void shield of the Templar Keep restored the Imperial Forces dig in around the bastion attempting to hold the Tau at bay whilst reinforcements are en route. - As the Tau consolidates their hold over the planet they begin amassing their forces around the Keep, preparing for a final offensive to eliminate the last stronghold, whilst their naval forces begin tightening the noose around the planet itself. - Shortly after the beginning of the Tau final push the Black Templar reinforcements arrive, crashing through the Xenos naval blockade and entering the planet’s atmosphere, though severely crippling the Strike Cruiser Crusading Star. Like flaming black rain the entire Black Templar force deep strikes from the falling Star directly into the midst of the assaulting Tau. Simultaneously the besieged Imperial Forces led by the Marshal Gerard sally forth and slam into the confused xenos lines. Within hours the offensive is broken and the Tau leadership is dead; leaving their battle group in disarray and retreating. (This scene is where the Crusades Banner comes from) - Sending forces in pursuit to harry the retreating Tau, Marshal Gerard regroups the surviving units to take stock. Of the original five dozen men he brought, less than a dozen survived the siege and subsequent counter attack, Gerard immediately promotes these brothers to his new household. Of the original ten regiments from Vengeance, only Colonel Drache’s remained largely in tact, with the remnants being folded into his command and the remaining force renamed to the 1st Kildrech Crusaders in honour of their worthy service to the Emperor beside the Templars. - Sending an update to the High Marshal of the status of the Crusade, Gerard then commandeers the 1st Kildrech Crusaders and begins the next step of his Crusade, to secure the immediate area around the Black Templar Keep before the cleansing of Kildrech itself. Dono1979
The Thunderhawk has just been sent off to the new painter (unfortunately my regular painter is taking a break) and he has commited to having it built and painted ready for my Apoc game in 10 days. I am most likely going to order some 12" flight stands from Dragon Forge and put them on a single 200mm base. The first photos will be when we deploy for the apoc game.... The looooong term plan is now to have my entire crusade capable of an aerial insertion via Deep Strike, Drop Pods and Airborne Transports. Thus end game would be, 1 Thunderhawk, 2 Storm Eagles, 3 Caestus Assault Rams, 6 Tempests to provide air support. that should be able to carry 70 infantry slots in the TH and the SE's, and 30 Terminator/Infantry slots in the Rams. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3037487 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Thanks for all the feedback guys, it is fantastic to see that so many others like how the Crusade has turned out. All credit for the painting goes to Korocite, he was tremendous! Here are some pics of the Crusade before being packed for transport to Melbourne for the Apoc game, only two things missing from it; the Thunderhawk which is being assembled and painted as we speak and a single Tempest which went with the Thunderhawk to provide a scheme reference. That is every single model I have for the Crusade, all of their spare weapon arms are back in the cupboard. If my wife doesnt kill me before hand, and I manage to get the final wish of converting the entire Crusade into an aerial force, then there would be two more additions to the previously posted aircraft.... two Warhawks: http://apocalypse40k.com/index.php?/topic/...-marine-lander/ Those guys will be able to transport all of my land vehicles, 6 Rhinos on one, 4 Rhino chassis and a Landraider on the other. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/001-30.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/002-31.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/003-31.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/004-28.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/005-25.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/006-22.jpg -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3038444 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Ok, the Thunderhawk has been sold..... :) I thought long and hard on it and after a couple of apoc games (without the Hawk) I felt that the model was waaay too much money. I really enjoyed the apoc game and I dont think that a Thunderhawk would have brought a significant higher amount of enjoyment to the game, in fact I think it would have been cumbersome to play with. Especially now that the Storm Eagles are out there are ways to transport large squads, and for the price I sold the Thunderhawk at I could buy three of the Eagles.... It was a hard choice. On the flip side the recent releases from Forge World have sucked a little more money out of me in the form of three Rapier Laser Destroyers (they have Mk III armoured crew!!), a Mk II Apothecary and a Tartaros Terminator which will be my new Emperors Champion. I think the Tart fits our EC statline perfectly, the 2+ is the Terminator armour, the 5++ only in combat is the Tart's lower resilience to normal TDA and the Sweeping advance reflects the agility of the Tart armour. In addition I will model a power sword into his Power Fist to simulate the S6. I will start modeling this weekend and start posting pics. I have also started more work on my Tables Terrain, with the introduction of a FW trench system, the quantum gothic walls, bunkers, tank traps and power generator along with the Skyshield landing pads (no frame, just the pads). The overall plan with all of this is to make a modular tile table of 6' x 8' based on the outskirts of a Black Templar Keep during a full fledged war. I am planning on trying to build an Imperial Fortress style building (like the one in Imperial Armour: Apoc and on forge World) but with a much stronger Black Templar feel to it. Thinking of using the Bastion kits to make the towers and some skysheild landing pads to make the gate and then custom make the walls. Thoughts and comments will be more than welcome! -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3069040 Share on other sites

Dono1979
Well, ebay is my friend at this point in time. I managed to sell a few things for much more than I thought they were worth (a couple of hero quest things and some old fantasy style walls) and stumbled across some absoloute bargains..... I am now awaiting the delivery of another 20 Mk II marines and 3 Caestus Assault Rams. Basically the Mk II marines will be made into Fire Support teams (all bolters) which will bring the total up to 6 five man fire support teams, and with the magic of magnets they will also double as 3 x 10 man Legion Cohorts for my Tyrants Legion army, whilst my regular Crusader Squads (4 x 10 man) will be able to transform into 8 x 5 man Retaliator squads (obviously thinking Apoc here). Whilst the Rams will only hit the table on occasions or in Apoc, but they were such a good buy I couldnt turn them down (close to half price!!). The Rapiers are assembled and I am just trying to work out what to do with the crew, as the crew models which come with the kit have some very nice detailed Mk III armour which I think I will use to make new 'sergeants' for my regular Crusader squads and just put normal Mk III armour on the Rapiers. On a side note the Templars get taken for a whirl in a couple of weeks to a local tournament, going for the hybrid gunline list of 1850 with a Mortis contemptor. -Dono Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3073105 Share on other sites
Dono1979
Ok, so the Crusade is getting expanded.... Just received: 3 x Rapier Laser Destroyers 1 x Mk II Apothecary 1 x Tartaros Terminator (count as Emperors Champion) After building the Rapiers and their crew, I thought that the details Mk III armour was waaay to pretty to be used on an artillery unit so I have decided to restructure the Crusade a little. I will be getting enough Mk III Rapier crew to make a squad of ten and will be using the Sparten/Greek/Roman plume on the head along with a cloak to designate them as Veterans (Sword Brethren sometimes) and they will also count as my Veteran Marines in my Tyrant Legion army. In addition I have decided to boost my Fire Support section from 2 five man teams of Mk II to 8 five man teams of Mk II, these guys will also double as 2 x 20 man squads of Legion Cohorts in the Tyrants Legion list whilst the Mk III Crusader squads will be Retaliators. And lastly, I bit the bullet and have three Caestus Assault Rams coming as well. So obviously there are elements which are geared towards Apoc or just one hell of a vicious 40k game! Here are some pics of the Rapier guns without crew, the apothecary (I think he is awesome!), the mock up Veteran without arms and the Tart EC, he will be holding a glaive in the power fist and a bolt pistol in the forward arm. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/003-33.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/004-30.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/005-27.jpg http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss62/dono1979/006-25.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212277-kildrech-crusade-modeling-diary/page/8/#findComment-3074301 Share on other sites
