The Outcast Dead

Got a feeling that it's this book mentioned on the Coming Soon section of BL http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/t...tcast-dead.html

A quote from the blog-"Neil (our ‘everything else’ guy) is frothing about The Outcast Dead, ‘I can't wait for 'The Outcast Dead'! The fate of those Space Marines from the traitorous legions who chose to remain loyal is one of the most interesting facets of the heresy to me.

with a group of loyalists from the various traitor legions escaping from incarceration on Terra as its main characters this is set to be my new favourite Heresy book.’

I am fan of Neil Roberts work but to me that's the worst cover of the HH series so far.

Now I'm sure I might get corrected here, since few people seem to be in agreement with me lately, but I don't think the author of the book generally has much to do with the cover art.

No way, nothing tops the Evil Mustache Twirler on the cover of Tales of the Heresy. If I had any skill whatsoever in Photoshop, I would so replace that guy (whether he's supposed to be Angron or not) with Freddie Mercury. :D

so if it's astartes from legions of 'questionable' loyalties...isnt sor talgron and his bunch on terra?...not sure which one of the word bearers novels had that mentioned though im really hoping it wasnt the abyss novel since i have no intention of picking that up again. In the tales of heresy short he obviously loves his primarch( who has definitly changed loyalties) but also does not appear to like erebus too much.

Nope, Sor Talgron goes on to become the Warmonger in Dark Apostle. He is first called Warmonger by the old priest in the short story Scions of the storm. I also held out for a time thinking he might stay loyal but yeh. Nope he becomes a crazy dreadnought.

Also i thought the Astartes in this book were scouts..... They look like scouts.

The guy who has the Thunder Armor helmet i guess is from the Emperor's Children and the guy with the blue pauldrons is from the World Eaters. I have no to which legion, the guy with the Facial tattoo belongs to.

From the look of things on the cover, I would say the Village People.

I'd guess Death Guard offhand, though Word Bearers were into facial tattoos even back then. I can't quite make out what symbol is scratched out on his belt buckle, and the pauldrons aren't giving many clues aside from austere metal, which could be Iron Warriors or Death Guard in equal measure (though the IWs don't seem to be into facial hair, whereas Death Guard have been known to grow it out).

I've got to say, they look nothing like astartes to me, more like gangers or bounty hunters. I know one has a thunder armour helmet but seeing as how this seems to be set during the heresy when MK1 was out of service for over a century and a half then I'd say it's just scavenged gear.

I just want to +1 this.

They look like gangers or bounty hunters to me as well and it's probably going to make a lot of people cry but I suspect there is little or no Astartes action in this book. Looking at that cover I'm expecting Necromunda 30K during the Heresy and I imagine that the Astropath has some message in his head which he has recieved by mistake and he just wants the quite life while everbody else wants the message.

I like the cover (nice and old school) and I'm looking forwards to this

I believe The Outcast Dead is the book that Dan Abnett (with a little Dembski-Bowden side salad thrown in for good measure) intimated would include a huge plot explosion that would make jaws drop. It's about an Astropath if I am not mistaken.

Not sure I ever said that about TOD, though Graham certainly has.

I know the storyline, and it's mega, but my comment was in reference to something still a bit of a way off.
