BA upcoming HH novel name confirmed.

ANCIENT FALOR

I must admit, I'm not a big fan of Swallow's Blood Angel books in general. I am going to try to keep the Red Thirst/nerd rage in check though.

The first three I could have passed, but Black Tide was actually pretty good (partly because it didn't make the Blood Angels look like incompetent morons), but I still think the book failed to nail the BAs completely.

I'm hoping he'll hit the homerun with this book though! Therefore I'll remain cautiously optimistic until I've got the book in my hands.

Apologies if I'm just being blind but what's the HH BA novel's title going to be? The thread name says we know the title now.

We'll see what Mr. Swallow does with it on his fifth try with Blood Angels. I wasn't happy with how the plot in his BA books went so far but the only thing that really got to me in every single book was how he just ignored and changed lots of small details we know about our chapter, for no apparent reason. Tactical heavy weapon troopers have red helmets, not blue. Scouts snipers have sniper rifles, not "Zaitsev pattern long bolters" or whatever he came up with after watching Enemy at the Gates. Our chapter mysteriously lost more heavy armour in the first two books than it has available.

Stuff like that is unneccessary and takes me right out of the story and into thoughts about how that doesn't fit with what I know from before.

Edit: speeling.

.

Fear to tread is the name. I really didn't want this thread to be a judgement of Swallows work. I wanted it to go more in the direction of what everyone is hoping to read and things that interest them with the whole conflict encompassing 7 hive worlds and like 15 moons. There's alot of story there. I think the book will be great.

Well, I'm definitely looking forward to the book and I hope that Swallow will do it justice.

I'm not sure what to expect but I by no means feel he's incompetent, just that he's made some disputable choices.

The discussion will come up every time someone mentions Swallow or his work on BA because the books are so controversial.

I'm excited about seeing how Sanguinius goes to war as well as the Sanguinary guard and the Sanguinary priesthood getting fleshed out with how they interact with the legion

I liked Flight of the Eisenstein and haven't read the newest BA novel. I'm willing to accept the idea that writers can evolve (or devolve) in their process and produce superior work...

The BA Omnibus, however, I am not a fan of.

Well I hope it's good also, but Swallow has really let me down in the past... though I did also like Flight of the Eisenstein.

What I hope to see is a proper treatment of the Primarch... so far ALL of the BL writers have depicted him as some sort of Michael Jackson weirdo which I find really distasteful.

The actual portrayal of him, no, I loved Horus' description of his brother.. but black hair is something that I really don't like on the head of our blonde chapter. It's fluff changes like that that can annoy some members of a fanbase.

What if they gave him a third arm but still portrayed him as a saint? Throw in a third eye, why not?

I don't know, the black hair thing pissed me off. The geneseed makes you more akin to your primarch, so most Blood Angels have Sanguinius' facial features and blonde hair.. but now he has black hair, why do we have blonde hair?

having black hair makes their portrayal of him bad?

i personaly think they have done a fine job the few times they deal with him.

Yeah so far he has been portrayed well and as he has always been described...Fair, humble, honest, loyal, well liked/respected...what I really want to see is see Sang lose his temper and really display some Angel style wrath!

Hmm ...in nearly every mention of him he is sort of Aloof and brooding with a weird tear drop tattoo on his face and the conversational skills of a slow kid. I mean Horus does speak very fondly of him but apart from that I'm not sure what you guys are talking about.

We've seen him mourn if that's what you mean by brooding and aloof, that's when he's had tear drops painted onto his face.

I viewed him as reserving judgment for when it was needed and deserved to be heard, I'm sure it even mentions him not stating his opinion so that he can support Horus in some indevor.

hair color and a third arm are a bit different... also doesn't mean it will stay that way, maybe it turns blond after the fought with the demon Ka'Bandha...

course i paint my marines with whatever hair color i feel like doing them not all blond.., as an aside, where all does it say he's supposed to have blond hair? i've seen a few pics but i've seen pics in black as well, text wise i can't find anyhting quickly, but i havn't gotten out of bed to look in my 3rd ed dex or anything

He was given black hair by one, which is really a killer as HH novels are quite canon (according to Abnett, anyway).

Maybe he dyed it :(

As an aside: Are each of the HH books standalones? I'll get to them all in time but should they be read in order (if there is one)?

What was he mourning again? ...I can't remember but honestly why would a Space Marine (and a primarch especially) of all people be mourning death?

Doesn't that strike you as a bit over-sensitive? ...the South Park Michael Jackson is the first thing that comes to my mind sadly hah.

read them in order, some can be read out of order, but, like the foirst 3, need to follow the order they were written.

I would suggest reading Prospero Burns first, before A Thousand Sons (the original intended sequence). You'll enjoy both infinitely more.

i'll let you know if i agree with that when i finish Prospero:)

whats wrong with sanguinius having a spear, makes more sense on a winged primarch than a sword does. and the primarchs can change their appearences. also havent yet read that all ba have blond hair. which if it was true i would dislike in the way that all salamanders are supposed to be jet black. i dislike ti cause it would mean were all aryans, whch i think ba can do without. a primarch chaangiing his appearence, no problem. others potrayal of other chapters primarchs is always funny. of course it is. and sanguinius has a weird personality as seing the future will change your opinion...

im hopeful. i see the problems in his earlier books, but hopeully hes learnt how the chapter works better by now. and i relly enjoyed flight of the einstein. wondering how the sanguard and azkellon will be covered, etc...(sanguinator?)

Thats just it - its not really a big deal at all.
