Night Hunters WIP (Pic Heavy)

Recommended Posts

Thanks very much Rafen_2, yes the Hexagons, well I remember seeing a scratch built Eldar (apologies) Falcon/wave serpent that took a silver at a GD in the mid nineties that had something similar, and figured, that would look great on my marines.....and that was the end of that, started with a specialist recon team for my Dark Angels, was developed into my own "Chapter" and continue to this day.

Doghouse: Thanks old chap, always nice to get positive conversion feedback from a grand master!

But on to todays works, squad medic for one of my "Grey Hunter" squads, Didn't mean to build him, meant to finsh the dreadnought, but was watching NCIS and it kinda happened ! No effect in game terms, just figure that my foot sloggers would need better medical care than the Rhino/Razorback squads, and maintaining combat effectiveness is key.

Still very much WIP

And some close ups of the custom narthecium (Spelling?) as I mnaged to lose that arm, but have the rest of the parts, very strange :D

Right, been trying to put the finishing touches to my Dread, further to NemFX's earlier suggestion for a targeting pod to be installed top and centre (thanks for that), I finally found one that looks the part and figured that would be a great place for the smoke launchers.and so to the question, do they look good or really not?

Obviously needs tidying but I think I like it......

Your thoughts greatly appreciated.

Thanks Rafen_2! And yes have spent many days in the pain glove seeking absolution for my sins!

Quick update, individual shots of the marines, now 90% there, couple of straps on bolters, purity seals etc...

Squad Medic Fleischer

Particularly like the "mortis" legs from the Grey Nights box, wears a hood as helmet will be white and dislikes taking headshots.

Yes indeed Heathens, you are of course quite right- 1 x butchered SC Dread and 1 x direct entry into the mad house of the warp!

Really hoping I can find this chaps big brother somewhere to see what could be done there..... :D

But thanks man glad you like him and will get some completed shots up soon(ish)!

Onwards, almost finished Dread: final highlights, weathering and touches to the base still to come:

Very nice, lovin' the dreadknight...er...dread. True LOS is gonna suck for this guy, but at least he'll die pretty, lol. Oh, forgot to ask, what are you running the space crusade dread as, game-wise? Heck, for that matter, fluff-wise? Just curious. Keep up the awesome work, bro!

----------------------------------------------------------------- Fluff warning--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

+++ Bogies moving in on multiple attack vectors Brother, the heavy boys must have missed a couple +++

Techmarine Schmidt blink-clicked his suits integrated auspex display up, Bother Hildebrandt wasn't exaggerating, the Genestealer menace was inbound. Rapidly. Their Terminator armoured brethren must have missed a nest on the last sweep before giving the all clear, a small nest it seemed.

+++Would't want you getting bored now brother+++ Schmidt could almost see Hildebrandts grin through his battle helm as the Seargent stepped away to organise his men.

Schmidt kept moving down the dimly lit corridors, the hulk was relativley small, as hulks went, and had not given up anything worth retrieving, Schmidt and his escort were the last marines finishing their Tech sweeps.

As he moved up to the blast door sealing the end of the corridor from what, according to the schematics, looked to be a large cargo bay beyond, he heard Hildebrandt and his men take the battle to the xeonos +++ Contact - Take them down brothers+++ The crashing of bolters echoed down the corridors.

After a moments work on the control panel the Blast door smoothly slid up into the ceiling. As Schmidt stepped into cargo bay the auto lumes failed to cycle, leaving the bay shrouded in Darkness, his armours lights piercing the twilight like twin lascannon beams. Moving around between the detritus of ages, occasionally stopping to scan any likely looking heaps for some useful technology he systematically worked his was through the hanger finally coming up to a mountain of ancient looking used robotics. - Ah something interesting - finally thought Schmidt as he started logging his finds for the recovery crews.

Suddenly the intensity of Bolter fire reached new levels of intensity, +++ Brother Michel down - Cover me +++

Hildebrand charged down the corridor, Bolter kicking as he felled the beast that had punched its claws into his brothers chest and was trying so saw its distended jaws though his battle helm, Michel's life support was flickering dark amber-he was not going to loose a battle brother on a tech mission. Letting his bolter swing on its combat sling he took hold of Michel backpack and started dragging him back down the corridor.

+++ Seargent, You need to move-NOW-Grenades incoming!+++ knowing not to question brother Wilhelm, Hildebrant stooped low and starting running, Michels armour throwing sparks off the metal flooring as he heard the boom and rattle of frag grenades detonating a little too close behind.

+++ Squad-Covering fire and collapse back to Schmidts position - Schmidt do you copy?+++

Schmidt sent 2 vox clicks back to acknowledge, he had his own problems. as over him towered a mechanoid construct, recently risen from the pile of parts, red and green lenses flashing, shoulder mounted cannon cycling up and screaming binary attack code.

+++ Lock it Down!+++ ordered Hildebrandt as the last member of his squad backed into the cargo bay, still firing into a sea of Stealers pouring down the corridor as the door slammed down, giving them a moments reprieve,

+++ They missed more than a couple it would seem Techmarine, Tech.... Emperors Mercy!+++

+++Hold your fire Seargent+++ responded Schmidt as Hildbrandt whipped his Bolter up to cover the new threats looming in the shadows over the Tech marine.

+++When those stealers come through that door, we are going to need some heavy fire support, THEY are it! Now move brother, clear the range, we are about to give a demonstration in fire power+++ and turned back to the sleek bipedal constructs that he now controlled.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will have to run them as Mortis Dreads, seems reasonable...... ish <_<

In addition been woking on this Extreme recon pattern speeder:

So lets say we play an Apoc game. How many barrels are point at me from that thing?

lemme see....

8 barrels for an assault cannon x 2 of that. That's 16 barrels.

10 barrels on the Vulcan MB. That's 26 barrels.

I see 6 T.linked H bolters. That's 32 barrels.

2 T.linked lascannons. That's 36 barrels.

The Hell hammer cannon. That's 37.

Chances are the crew carry pistols. That's 47 barrels.

and the Tank Commander, that's 48 barrels.

That's 48 reasons I don't want that thing facing me across the table!

Course that's also 48 reasons I'd love to see it running along my troops.

Evenin all,

maverike_prime: yeaaah, nothing like overkill to get the blood pumping!

Evil eyeball: Your not wrong there chap, it is indeed a stretched storm but as I use the wolf codex I am not allowed storms so counts as a regular speeder, with the 2 melta gunners in the back counting as the MM. In fluff terms I see them acting as spotters for artillery, oppertunistic tank hunters, Wolf scout insertion and emergency extraction/casualty evacuation. Think of the hueys in "we were soldiers" and you'll get the right idea.

kornomaniac: You are too king sir, glad you like.

Couple more updates of todays work:

Finished the RIO

I really like your count as grey hunters and have really given me some ideas for some honour guard.

one question though, are the arms you've used for the halberds that are held in both hands on your marines from the grey knights box? From what I can see it looks like you've cut off the storm bolter and positioned them with a little green stuff. The actually halberd could potentially be a different one to the individual arm sets. Is that about right?

Cheers

Ave Brothers!

Chapter Master Kanithon: Thanks brother, look forward to seeing those honour guard! Regards the Halberds you're quite right, standard matched arms out of the box with the SB removed. I've found that the fit is pretty awful so a little green stuff is a must! In most instances I removed the head and rotated to make it look right and a couple of times I cut both ends off right beside the hands and switched the ends around, really simple, actually works really well, imo of course.

Will try and post a mini tut if you fancy it.

Andrew J: Very kind in deed Sir! And am working on it, its just taking some time..... ;) .

And on that note, first WIP shot of the first member of the 2nd Razorback squad:

gallery_42238_5618_41672.jpg

I think all of these lads will have silencers, well just because. (edit: and eventhough it looks bent in the photo it is dead straight!)

Thanks all!
