tada, the two talons done (bar aquilas etc being put on, may not bother) now heres a random thought for ya'll..

the storm talon can escort 1 unit.. but not one with a talon already attatched.. whats to stop you attatching a talon to say a storm eagle, then another to its cargo????

the eagle requires more gap filling before im ready to prime it..

however the first of the talons Fireghost has got the first few bits of paint on it (the red and white tail is based on stormwalker a 2nd company thunderhawk and is a design that will feature on many of the vehicles.)

mostly just blocked in colours at this point, but shes getting there.

Firstly, this blog has filled me with amazement. Well done :cuss

Secondly to answer your rules question about escorts, pretty sure the rules on transports state that the transport and its cargo are treated as one unit. Anyone with their book handy to prove/disprove this? I'm curious as well.

The Cargo and the Eagle count as 1 unit when they are together, in turn you can not attach the 2nd talon to the Cargo... I looked and asked around on this one. Good question tho! BTW love the ST conversions, simple and effective!

stuck my question into the official rules discussion forum, from a rules stand point the unit and the transport count as 2 units that arrive together (you can check out the discussion for the specifics and references) so you can if you so wish have say.. a storm eagle filled with 10 termies roll on with 2 talons as escorts (1 for the termies, 1 for the eagle)

glad everyone seems to like my violation of the talon kit, the stubby wing thing.. im going with anti grav plating in the same way as the eagle and thunder hawk.. aka it works by magic god dammit just like our space marines do! :tu:

ill post some proper updatyiness soon, was busy watching metallica and black sabbath and generally being grubby in a field for the past 5 days (hence the lack of interneting) but as a general statement.. i like my command squad stuff better than the fw stuff despite them being lovely models which i will buy and use for stuff, they do not look fire angely to me (the bare head will be used, may have to replace a few clone marines with alernate heads as i go.. need to get hold of koryvdae, the raven guard bare head and lufgt hurons one at some point too..)

anyway thats enough from me for now.. just thought id let you all know im alive.

nothing too fancy today, been doing some work on brom to get him finished, need to do something more with the cloak and finish the back of it, finish the fire, whack some highlights on things like the swords hilt, add a bit of depth to the chest etc etc but hes on the way to getting a coat of satin varnish now.

opinions on the fire would be appreciated.. its still rather wip but i need to know if people think im going in the right direction with it.

I'll try and add more updates soon, brom is very near completion now, just need to figure out a freehand design for his cloaks inside edge. There is also a tac squad and the talons to be done (tac squad preferably before the end of the month even if the rest of that challenge seems to have died out a fair bit =/) major things to do on them is finish any skin and add highlights to the reds & do squad & chapter markings.. so quite a lot actually :S

with any luck ill have something to show you by the end of the weekend.

Oooh, I have a suggestion for ya on the inside of his cloak! Check out Nobu's Black Templars if you haven't already. His EC has a really neat design on the inside of his cloak, and on page 3 of his thread he gives a great step by step. click

Just and idea... :)

Nice looking miniatures here- the painting style is a little messy for my taste on the close-ups, but I think it works across the army (the squad shots look nice indeed). However, what really makes these models work is the clever combination of bits and subtle conversion work. Most of the models look like they 'belong' that way, which I think is the sign of a solid conversion.

As far as detailing the inside of the cloak, I think something simple like a little scrollwork would be complimentary to a model with a lot of sculpted detail already. This is such a large area, and doing a quilted pattern might make it too busy. I'd suggest having a look at the GW Studio version of Sicarius for a little inspiration.

i think calling my painting messy is a little harsh.. my models arent meant to look like parade ground marines and as stated with the command squad theyre "finished" but will be revisited to be neatened up in places where im unsatisfied with them..

brom is essentially based on a certain image of helbrecht in many ways which is one of my all time favourite pieces of 40k artwork.. so in many ways he owes his badassery to black templars.

unfortunatley it looks like family will be getting in the way of painting until later tonight, but i still plan on that update.. honest.

To be fair Badaab wasn't saying they were messy in negative way:

It is messy for him but works for the army.

i'd be more open to accepting it if he'd used a different word.. theyre dirty and a bit on the grubby side.. but there is no mess really, theyre just painted in a non "clean" manner.

anyway i dont want to sound too defensive about it and i have a slightly late update.

i decided to replace the sargeant and heavy weapons man in this squad as well as bring them a little closer to completion, major things left to do are heraldry, few more highlights, basing and some odds and ends.

(the guy on the end with the mkiv helm may look a little darker.. this is because he was my test peice for satin varnish as a protective layer.. not actually finished i just couldnt find another model at the time =/)

brom is also coming closer to completion, atm he just has some text on the bottom of his cloak and i think im going to stick with it, as im worried doing anything too fancy may detract from the model in the long run. (k.i.s.s principle)
