Blademaster
These are the best Astral Claws I have seen yet. Two questions: (1) How do you paint the blue on the shoulder pads and (2) which helmet did you use on your second assault marine (it looks like it is from the Black Templar sprue)? Thanks. nurgling6688
@Blademaster: The blue is a basecoat of regal blue, with a layer of regal/enchanted mix. Then I use the P3 armor wash to line it (told you I loved that stuff) since it has a blue tint to it. Then a final line highlight of kommando Khaki, make sure its thin so the blue shows through it. And the helmet is from the Death Company sprue with the blood drops taken off.
Yogi
I love how the Astral claws have my old DIY scheme, you have naturally done a fantastic job! The poster is a great touch. Love it. Following
Firepower
Man, how did I miss this? This is epic stuff (the poster in particular, of course). I've never been able to command that sort of obedience from my metallic paints :P. You've done well to prove how much cooler the Astral Claws were as loyal(ish) servants of the Emperor ;). nurgling6688
Two more Tactical Marines for the first squad finished. One of them is just a normal tactical marine body with a diff head and the other is another on of the Legion of the Damned models. I tried to give the flesh tone a slightly more bronzed appearance as opposed to my very pale skin I usually go for (cause I mean, these guys spend 90% of their life inside their armor and on spaceships) since the Astral Claws are described as having a Babylonian feel to them. The again, they recruit from a lot of different worlds, so its very unlikely any of them look alike. Anyway, here are the pictures. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClawstacface.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClawsFace2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClawsTacFace3.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClawsTacKnife.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClawsTacKnife2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClawsTacKnife3.jpg I'm unsure if I should put blood on the knife, thoughts? Sorry for the slightly underwhelming photography. Comments and crit welcome as always.
Hyaenidae
I am still stunned by how well these guys look, man. Amazing, simply amazing. And I'd say no on blood on the knife, it looks beautiful as is.
El-Diablo
Spectacular work, i'll certainly be taking some inspiration from these when I get round to my own Astral Claws. With regards to the knife, i'd leave the blood off, it'd draw too much attention to the blade and less to the marine itself. One thing I would do is change the tone of metal on the blade, it looks identical to the armour and almost blends into the figure.
Dosjetka
One thing I would do is change the tone of metal on the blade, it looks identical to the armour and almost blends into the figure. That, or add some blood to the blade, though not too much. Ludovic
Olis
Lovely Claws here, man, they are sweet. Are you free-handing those Tyrants Star symbols? Can you do a brief tut? ^_^

nurgling6688
Hey everyone, no new models yet, sorry, but I do have these higher quality pictures of one of my marines. Plus pictures of a Terminator I painted up as a Fire Hawk. He was a test marine I did when I still wasn't sure what army I was going to go with. I knew I wanted to do a Badab War army and was toying around with the idea of a combined Loyalist force of Fire Hawks, Red Scorpions and either Sons of Medusa or the Minotaurs. Enjoy. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClaw2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClaw3.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClaw4.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/AstralClaw5-2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/FireHawk.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/FireHawk2.jpg http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i317/tylerrox6688/FireHawk3.jpg Comments and Crit welcome as always. P.S. I have 2 more marines almost done and baring any unexpected real life distractions (pesky jobs) Then they should be done within a few days. Firepower
Everything looks epic as always. The one bit of criticism I have concerns the Fire Hawk. The colors on the flames seem a bit muted. It may just be a style that you're going for, but a touch of yellow on the flames couldn't hurt in my opinion. Aside from actually painting yellow, that is :P. MagicMan
Looking awesome man. Gotta question for you, those LoTD models, are the flames scultped on? So that you had to file them off? Ive always wanted to use them (great poses) but im not sure if id like to spend however long filing all the flames off...
Brother_Fatiswon
of course, praise and amazement! but i can't help feeling HOW awesome some loyalist Doom eagles would look using your skills and techniques. good show SiR
nurgling6688
some of them are sculpted on, some are engraved in. I try and avoid the ones that have to many flames and bones, but yeah, I use a dremel or just use putty to fill in the engraved flames. Doom Eagles actually were one of the armies I considered back when I decided I wanted to do a metallic marine army a few years ago. Unfortantly they lost out to the Iron Snakes, who then lost out to the Astral Claws.
Ferro
These really are beautiful. I concur with another commenter that many of these marines really look... real. mean. You've done a good job making them be more than just a model. hurrah for Badab War armies! Keep up the great work.

worrywort
Wow, Certainly the best space marines from the Badab War I have ever seen. A selection from the all different chapter would be cool. I have started atest for Fire Hawks, but I'm not ok with the red/brown armor... What are the colors you have used ? Thank you for the diffretn tutorials and hope to see some other marines soon. I do plan on making objective markers from the wounded marines pack and painting them as three different chapters. Haven't decided on which yet, im thinking Red Scorpions, Sons of Medusa and something else. The paint I used for the Fire Hawks armor is Terracotta. Thats why I painted him actually, I saw their color scheme and went "Thats Terracotta! finally something to use that paint color on since I bought it 8 years ago." The rest of the colors I don't remember. All I remember is that I had to Orange-ify the flames a bit because pure yellow flames was way to harsh a contrast against the dull red. Templar of Steel
Those look so great and are now a source of inspiration for my own Tyrant Legion force. Would you mind sharing how you did the gold and silver?
nurgling6688
Thanks. The gold is a base coat of scorched brown and shining gold. Then shining gold layered on top. Highlighted with a mix of shining gold and mithril silver then given a wash of devlan mud followed by a wash of gryphionne sepia then quickly highlighted in keys areas again with the mithril mix. I believe I already described my metal recipe somewhere earlier in this thread.
