Dark Angel Dice

I drew my own version of a sword and wing symbol (they are a little fat and cartoony) and sent it in for a custom dice order, you could use any non copyrighted symbol, but us making it and sending helps with the IP issue. You can choose from a big list of styles and colors that they have available and if we placed a order all together, everyone should get the cheapest rate possible (the 40 cents range).

We could shoot for one unique symbol, with several color options (echoing the posts, Ravenwing colors, Deathwing colors, and Battle Company colors).

This was just to gauge interest, I think our best bet again would be to wait till our next book rolls around in the next year and a half, that way we can get as many people as possible, as well, we can vote on a custom Symbol.

I asked bout the dice tell ya the response when it comes!

Were you talking to me? If so, thank you very much! :)

Okay, thanks man! So for example, I'd scan a BA symbol, re-work it a bit on my computer, send it to the guys at Chessex and place and order for the dice? Or do I have to draw it myself like you did? Just wondering because of the mentioned IP issue. :P

Thanks again!

Unless Chessex have changed their terms & conditions, when I made any of the custom dice orders I'vce done, you had to have identical dice for the entire order.

If you wanted different colour dice or painting, I think you would have to do multiple orders - and each order is assesed on it's own volume to get the discounted rates etc.

We looked into it when we did some for our club and as they would be classed as seperate orders, we just went with the one colour for them, which was the green/gold mix.

Now, it might be different these days, or because it's a larer order, but don't be too disappointed if they say we it has to be a single coulor.

But they are damn good dice and always an eye catcher.

Cheers

I'd be up for it if we could get them from Koplow rather than Chessex, or else get a custom order of Chessex Precision Dice (d6s only, since the Precisions usually only come as full polyhedral sets). Regular Chessex dice aren't really random, so I wouldn't buy them.
Well Cheesex said that he's ready to do my order and is really excited. Soo he can do it, the dice are only 16mm but still thats a good size. The replys to my questions little longer than hope but he's been answering them. Just give him a sample of idea you want the icon to be and he'll do it.

16mm is more than a decent size to me.

However, I'm concerned about Ian's comment...why don't you consider them random? Please, an easy peasy answer for a non-math guy :)

Edit: an important fact is also the delivery... are they willing to deliver say 30+ destinations?

I've sent off an email to Chessex - I was making a request for a BA version of the original poster's die, and asked about the copyright issue.

Well, with this, the similarities with this thread end - I'd like to thank you for the information provided, guys.

Various people have studied dice, and the small ones with rounded corners (Chessex/GW style) tend not to have an even distribution of numbers, for various reasons (some have been found to roll up to 30% 1s!). Said reasons include:

The pips are recessed, weighting the dice unevenly

The rounded edges tend to enhance that weightedness, because the dice tend to roll just far enough to land on the weighted side

The polishing process (often done in a gem-polishing machine) can polish the sides unevenly, adding a further element of chance in to the mix.

Basically the best bet is casino dice if you want a truly random distribution of the 6 numbers. Next best is either Gamescience of Koplow, apparently (Lou Zocchi of Gamescience has a well-known video rant about bad dice on youtube somewhere...).

Well is it a deal-breaker??

Does Gamescience do custom dice?? Can't tell as their website seems a little flaky.

Personally I use the rounded dice anyway... so it doesn't matter to me.

There are IP issues to think about I guess as the dice manufacturers have to ensure they don't get sued. I'd suspect that even the example shown by Candleshoes is strictly an IP-breaker due to the way it looks (rather than its content). Or at least it would be if I was at GW legal – especially in the commercial area of paid custom-designed/manufactured items B).

It's a tricky one to get around really.

Cheers

I

I own some casino dice, but dont use them because they are huge and bounce too much on the boards...

I understand the round-ness issue...but I guess with big dice it aint so bad...

If I can get some 20 16mm dice for around 10€ Im in...delivered in Spain that is

Plus one here for the UK wing...

Reckon I'd prefer black, as I already have green and white GW dice.

As for the IP issue... Could one of us design something from scratch so that it is DA-inspired, rather than a direct infringment? Surely no one will hammer us for that?!
