WIP Imperial Fists Army

I recently happened across a couple of good deals on some FW stuff from Bartertown.

First up!

Ahh, the boarding marine. I've always thought his elongated groin armor/metal tabard thing was a bit odd, but otherwise, I really love the model.

Up next:

The Red Scorps tac conversion kit. The guy had already glued one head and torso together, and lost one of the heads, but otherwise, it's practically untouched. I did get the shoulder pads too, but just didn't put them in the pic, since I probably won't be using them... this being an Imperial Fists blog and all that.

With some of these bits, I might have to go back and make some changes to my Sternguard conversions. :)

Tomorrow, I hope to be finished with the chapter master and have him base coated, so stay tuned!

Lookin good so far. Ill be following this one.

Quick question: Those scorpion torsos, They have any scorpion symbols on them?

Some of them do. There are two different chest pieces, one with a larger round plate in the center with the scorp symbol on it, and the smaller one with the skull beneath the plate does not have the symbol. The sgts chest piece also has a scorp symbol in the center.
The conversions are great, Really like the stance of the Master. I want to see em all painted soon, thoguh :)

I think once I get the CM base coated, along with my second tac squad(which is looking more and more like it will be tomorrow), I'm going to start working on nailing down a paint scheme as well as the theme for the bases. I'm thinking something urban, maybe ruined city streets, like they've been called in after some battle has already been raging for a while.

I would have liked to have this done a couple days ago, but life interrupts, and I needed a trip to the doctor's office today for a little procedure. Perhaps a little worse for wear in the coming week, but hopefully better off in the long run. :)

Anyway, enough talk! Pictures!

I cleaned up most of the airbrush overspray, taking it back to the black primer coat to get a feel for how the armor looked, and it's nice, if I may say so myself. I know my pic skills still need improvement and he looks a lot better in person, but I think you get the idea.

C&C welcome as always.

Thanks,

Solid yellow, I see you're going for the classical, bright yellow, at least from the onset? For basing, everyone loves their urban ruins (see sig, mine are pretty much exactly what you described :cuss ), as they usually go really well with the yellow. As long as you're not doing Goblin Green bases, I'm sure it'll be awesome.

My photos kinda suck for the color, as it's closer to a mustard yellow than the bright canary yellow that's standard for the IFs. I think I mentioned it before, but it literally looks like I'm dipping my brush into a little pot of mustard to put paint on my palette.

Oh, and on the subject of that Goldenrod yellow color that Reaper no longer makes, I found a few pots on eBay, bringing my total to 5, so barring any catastrophe of spilling all 5 of them, it should definitely last me through this army. ;)

BTW Brother Pheidias, nice job on your marines. That's actually along the lines of what I was wanting to do with mine, as far as bases and weathering go. In my head, I see the IFs concerned less with their armor being shiny and polished as they are with getting stuff done, so I think even the Chapter Master's armor will be weathered and chipped.

Thanks Oz! I know some people don't care for it and it had a rocky start, but I like the possibilities that Finecast offers, not only for conversions but also for future mini design.

Now I have a question for anyone following this blog: I haven't yet made the assault squad that my Chappy will lead, and I was wondering if I should use all of the Mark IV stuff I got from the scorp conversion kit on the assault squad, or sprinkle the new resin bits around the rest of the army?

Two weeks since an update! GAH!

A little bit of life getting in the way as well as me getting a whole crapload of IG vehicles from some two very nice trades recently, and I've been working on that stuff. One day, a very pretty Vostroyan army will be mine...

But back to the marines!

Here's a 'sketch' of what I have in mind for the Sgt of the assault squad that will accompany Brother Chaplain Kage:

The scorp symbol will be removed in time, but I like the MK IV pieces with this. What do you think, brothers? Action-y enough?

C&C welcome.

Looks good, very dynamic. If you are planning on getting the FW photo-etch for the IF's they make a smaller IF badge that fits perfectly over the scorpion symbol, I did that on a few of my IF's and it looks rather nice. Are you planning on removing the BA stuff on the model as well?

Ashton

Looks smokin' :HQ:

Thanks!

That's great to hear! I was planning on ordering the Forge World IF transfer sheet, and might just pick up the photo etch now.

For the BA stuff, I think the only icon is the blood drop on the pistol(I already shaved the blood drop off of the power fist), and I'll probably be using a regular assault marine arm instead of that - some bling on the armor is fine, but I think blinged out guns are kinda dumb. I just had the BA DC sprue handy and slapped that arm on to see how it balanced with two arms. :)

Really awesome idea! I actually had the same thing in mine for one of my assault marines. Great minds think alike I guess.

Heck yes!

Yeah, I was going through all my old transfer sheets and was bummed to find that almost all of the marine sheets I have are either Ultramarine, Blood Angel, or Space Wolves. They're the small, chapter specific ones that used to come in the boxes, rather than the larger multi-chapter ones they make now. I also found several of the AOBR sheets I traded for, and forgot those had red CF logos, not the black IF version.

So, Forge World will siphon away more of income, yet again. /sigh

Alas, it's either transfers, sculpted pads or freehand, and they're all painful in their own way.

But at least we're not an obscure, transferless Chapter...

Also, 'grats on all those resin goodies, good deals are hard to come by.

I've decided to scrap the original librarian idea and use some one of my new MK IV helms with him:

A poor man's Sevrin Loth? Eh, maybe. As always, just a rough sketch to get a feel for the idea, and things like the GK writing on the legs and the BA icons would be removed long before it's finished, and lots more detail will be added.

Good, bad, ugly? Lemme know whatcha think. :)
