Solution Interrogator Stobz Posted June 3, 2011 Solution Share Posted June 3, 2011 (edited) Hi, Since getting into a bit of mini photography lately, and inspired post FAQ to abandon thoughts of other armies in the near future, I've decided to spruce up my mechanized 3rd company and some suppporting units. I will try to touch up and repaint where necessary a new unit every week or so, these first ones took last week to touch up and highlight. I am unsure about the new green highlights and may change them to a lighter shade, in photos they still look very dark. First up for viewing, Master Ramiel and his command squad: Ramiel himself; I am wondering about adding detail to his shoulders. EDIT: ON MIGRATION TO THE NEW SITE MANY PICS GOT STRETCHED, CLICK ON THEM FOR A PROPER VIEW. His command squad; And together with their ride; C and C welcome, should I change the highlights etc? HUGE EDIT: Thought I'd add my Completed Pics to the First post because this thread is getting long. Tanhausen
Can't see the pics at work, I'll check them this weekend. But you're a brave man if you plan on including PA DA... I propose forming the group of "Yes, I played DA pre-FAQ and here are my PA lists to prove it"
Interrogator Stobz
"yes I played DA pre FAQ" I tend to play weaker/fluffy options in armies for a greater challenge, I'm a bit of a masochist B) I really enjoyed PA guys in RT, 3rd and 4th and they are my first love :P . I am enjoying getting the CML DW/Typhoons combi out now though, losing every game is no fun ;) Stobz Veteran squad #1 and Rhino to do this coming week ... I think I may need to crop my photos of single minis a bit more too, any C and C on photo layout etc welcome, I'm not into spending too much $ though :) I like to waste my $ on plastic crack. ilnar
If DA could take a MOTF and the new fancy razorbacks, I'd run my DA with the DA codex:(
Tanhausen
Don't envy other codexes... put up with what we have and deliver as much punishment as possible. That is the DA way. Greavis 1 Back to top

DreadLift
Very nice looking models, Very nice indeed. My only critique and its a personal thing and not really a reflection on your obvious painting skills, is that I like to see power weapons blades look a bit fancier, a simple coloured NMM or something like the lightning on the BA power weapons would be my choice instead of the met blue blade. Interrogator Stobz
Thanks for the comments guys, Keith, get painting, we need more green plastic on tabletops around the world. When we get a new dex people will say "that Keith, he is not a bandwagonner, he is a REAL DA player" :tu:. Being cheeky, your first model is a great start into the unforgiven. Dreadlift, I agree, I'm not sure I want to repaint so many PWs and PFs, the metallic blue is a paintjob from years ago, maybe I do need to uprade that too. I'll give it some thought... Any opinions on the highlighting?, none of my GreenWing models have had any until now so decisions now will effect the whole project (and the amount of time I have to spend). I'm in two minds about the green highlighting, I was thinking about using an off-white tinted with a bit of green. Always room for improvement, Stobz Edited June 3, 2011 by Stobz

Interrogator Stobz
Wonderful work Stobz, some lovely and detailed 1st Legion you have there. Thanks Candleshoes, BTW I copied your candles for their re-do, mine were lame. My hope is I can raise them all from 'tidy and ok' to 'very nice' as my painting improves. Cheers. stobz
Tanhausen
Really like the master. For highlighting...tbh, I think theyre fine right now. Extreme highlighting will cluster them so dont rush the job and blend slowly :)
bevulf
Really nice models here - I especially like the company champion from command squad !! Great that you too use the old metal models :)
Interrogator Stobz
Thanks guys, I am re-doing the highlights on all the models ;) , I really like how yours 'pop' Bevulf so I'll take the nessessary time to lift mine. I've always thought they were a bit flat but was cautious not to create 'christmas tree marines' ;) Yours are a magic example of 'DA without tinsel'. I have half a doz of the old metal DA from back in the day mixed in with the new ones, they are a tiny bit shorter but it is hard to tell without measuring ;) They add a bit of variety which is nice, much harder to convert though :) I'll post some pics of the HQ re-done this weekend then move onto the Vet Sqd and Rhino. I am getting behind my self imposed schedule by spending time working on tweaking Belial and trying to get my photography and lighting sorted. Trickier than I imagined... Cheers again stobz
Interrogator Stobz
Thanks to the feedback, I've redone the redo and here are some pics of the 3rd Company HQ; Master Ramiel, Master of the Arsenal, Captain of the 3rd (Battle) Company of the Dark Angels, 3rd Company Command Squad, Ramiel, CHQ and Razorback, I've also managed to find time to spruce up the 3rd Company, 1st (Veteran) Squad; And for something not so power armour related, Inquisitor Marschall Lorr wonders how much the Emprah protects.. Next week shall I do a tactical squad, assault squad or a devastator squad? Chapter Master Ignis Domus
Excellent, almost as good as Belial, though that's understandable, since you didn't take a few years to paint these. I vote Devs. Helias_Tancred 1 Back to top

I'm doing a 1,000 point list(2 x Tac Squad, Librarian, Dread, Razorback, Typhoon, Whirlwind, Vindicator), all painted, for a club tournament in October. Yours are looking very nice. ;) Edited June 13, 2011 by shabbadoo

Interrogator Stobz
Aaaarrh, less arguing and more painting, makes me a happy lad ^_^ . Here is Brother Sgt Jechob's 10th (Devestator) Squad, with their ride/s, pretty standard look but it keeps me busy ;) only 80PA to go.... What shall I do next, Assault sqd, Tactical sqd or Dreadnought? stobz Edit, photosize Edited August 4, 2022 by Interrogator Stobz Helias_Tancred and Bouargh 2 Back to top
bevulf
I love them - You achieved a beautiful effect, your green is excellent and reminds me of a dark angels' look from the 2nd/3rd edition which I like the most !
