Jimmi's Worldeaters WIP

Recommended Posts

Alright chaps,

Finally finished the contemptor, just finished all the details such as flesh and gore, bone and a few highlights. Almost finished his multi melta arm and will be starting the butcher cannon soon too.

Started the base as well.....minus the running death korps guy. Anyway, heres a few pics......

Dread is not bonded to base yet so bear in mind that the final position will be tweaked to best suit the running death korps trooper,

Any tthoughts and comments are welcomed as usual,

Lots of great work jimbo!

Were you painting from a white base with the nmm, it doesn't look like it, which may explain the dullness I think. Also I think you could use the zenit technique, lighter higher up, more with the reds on the dread to make it pop better. It seems to lack a little sharpness, but is superb otherwise.

Vallejo do a metallic medium which might interest you for doing highlights?

Keep it coming :P

Ok , my updates have been terrible recently, however, i'm proud to announce that i've finally finished the contemptor......not including various weapon arms taht will be added over time. I may add weathering powder to the feet at some point and need to give the running DKOK victim a replacement gasmask pipe, other than those 2 minor things i'll be leaving this well alone in case i ruin it.

Anyway........

Currently repainting my terminators using the new GW reds, then intend to add some extra weapon arms. I'm regretting all the lightning claws after the release of 6th edition so will be adding various mauls, etc once the new codex comes out.

Daemon Prince/Bloodthirster will be next for finishing before i move on to anything else, which will potentially be a chaos decimator. Saying that, my current list of 5 termis, a daemon prince and 8 bloodletters will probably keep me busy until next year anyway

Cheers

cheers,

Yes the trophy is a spare Lord Zhufor one i had in a my bits box. Original pole dremelled off and replaced with brass rod version topped with a spike from a metal chaos termi. The resin pole just snaps far too easily for my liking.

Fantastic sense of motion and a great job showing the viewer the unfolding scene. The sense of urgency and desperation has been captured perfectly.

I imagine the Death Korps trooper acting as a sentry, though the message of a surprise World Eaters attack will never leave his lips.

Maybe a bit dorky of me, but when I see this guy, all I can hear in my head is a corrupted vox-caster howling "Come here and give Papa Contemptor a hug!!!!!" :)

Great job, man. You reds are incredible, and the golds look perfectly battered. If I may ask, how did you achieve the spraying gore on his chainfist fingers?

Cheers, thanks for the comments. The gore is basically fishing line. I put a blob of superglue on the end that isnt attached to the model to give a dripping look. Its painted with Tamiya clear red with a little black glaze mixed in to darken it slightly.

The little lumps of flesh splattered in various places are from the pink eraser that you find on the end of a pencil. Grate it into small flakes, mix into your Tamiya blood mix and it looks like someone got shredded.

I can't take the credit. Fishing line trick and pink eraser as flesh are both adaptations of someones elses . Unfortunately I can't remember who i borrowed the technique from but kudos' whoever you are.

Fantastic work man...im definitely gonna use that idea when I start my own World Eaters warband. U sir, are an inspiration.

I think it's totally awesome, but (and I know I'm going to get a new arsehole for this) I'm not 100% convinced by the posing of the trooper.

The Dread looks like it's properly frantic sprinting, where as the trooper looks like he's doing a non panicked, casual jog...

Maybe some trooper re-posing?

Either way, its about 10 million times better than anything I've ever done - nice work!

Also, nice to *meet* another Jimmi ;)

Amazing paint job and conversion work, the pose for me though just isn't right, looks a little like a game of 'tig' but the guardmen isn't really trying?

I think the dread would be far more imposing on a base on his own, guardmen just doesn't add anything and almost takes away?

But definately an amazing paint job on both, pose its each to their own I guess ;)

I have to ask... and I apologise if this has been asked previously... but what do you mix your clear red with, if you mix it at all?

My fiance has tried two different wood working glues, and both failed.

Normal PVA made it seperate like off milk... some other clear orange gloop turned it cloudy.

We've looked on a number of sites which have suggested both these glues... But not had the same results.

Cheers in advance!

By the way..... AWESOME! ;)

Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment. Its always good to get other peoples opinions, and it really inspires me to keep plodding on at my snail like pace.

In response to a couple of things.....

SpooksGotHim - Its got to be gory if your doing world eaters. Are you doing traditional red or pre heresy white and blue. The gore works nicely on anything except really dark colours especially with the pink bits of flesh. It looks even more nasty on the pre heresy coloured armour...............

Midnight Runner - Thanks for the comment, much appreciated. Somehow its a sprint i think the guardsman is about to lose.........

JIMMILICIOUS - Sorry i cant use exclamations question marks etc, i've broken my shift key. It is indeed nice to see another jimmi, there don't seem to be many around. I really appreciate you taking the time to post an honest opinion, I really dont get offended and appreciate the feedback. I've spent ages trying to pose the little blighter and from most angles it looks fine. There is something bothering me about the pose but its something minor that i cant place my finger on. The trooper is pinned but I can re glue at numerous angles without too much problem. I'm going to spend a while looking at the darn model til i figure out what to tweak. I think some of the photos are a bit squiffy with regards to perspective too which dosen't help. Thanks bro.

Irwit - Again, thanks for taking the time to look and comment. See my response to JIMMILICIOUS regarding the posing. With regards to the dreadnought based on its own, i think a few pages back there are a few photos pre paint of the dread based on its own. I always planned to leave it based that way but it looked more like it was tripping over than lurching at something. In end i went for the more elaborate base to give a bit of storyline to the model ...so to speak. Hopefully some careful staring for hours then tweaking will help sort the pose. Seriously, thanks for the input and comment, its appreciated and i'm not offended.

Malekharn - I only tend to use PVA glue to do snow bases. The drips of gore are fishing line with a dot of superglue on the end to form a drip. For my blood recipe i use Tamiya clear red and tend to mix in about 10 percent black ink/ wash dependant what brand you paint with. The black just kills the brightness of Tamiya clear red neat from the pot. The pink eraser flakes add to the effect with shredding/chain weapons. Hope that helps

Anyway, thanks all for commenting........

I've just been paid and as a reward, i'm contemplating another model to sit in the unpainted pile. I know i previously mentioned a butcher cannon conversion but for now............FW Chaos Decimator anyone - questionmark-

Pics as soon as i get it.

Cheers

Love that shredded flesh look. Only have recently started to use the Tamiya clear red, and am liking the results. I have been mixing it with black paint though, not and ink or wash. Will have to try that on the next model, along with the eraser idea.

@tarvik. Thanks for the comment, i'm glad you like the finished peice. With regard to tips, all i can say is have a good old think about everything before you glue up. I spent a long time with blutack trying to get the pose right, then glued each joint seperately to allow you to get it right. Photographing before you glue is also a good idea as it gives you a reference for your final glueing session..... if you cleaned the resin right it will be very hard to crack a glue joint for reposing so you have to get it right first time.

In terms of converting this kit, it is not too hard to add plasticard trims and symbols etc. Even if you dont fancy greenstuffing any details, due to its quite boxy features and flat areas, its quite easy to measure trim and get the whole thing symetrical. It didnt even prove too hard adding trim to curved areas such as the torso. Again, if you take a bit of time to plan what you are adding and measure everything, you can get decent results in quite a short time.

Bits are very easy to swap, due to the sheer amount of parts with the kit, the fingers on my contemptor were just swapped for some forgeworld chainbayonets, ive also seen blood talons used as well as various other little kitbashes.

Heads are also quite easy to swap. I discovered that the heads from the normal forgeworld dreadnoughts are quite a nice fit for the contemptor.....despite many people disagreeing initially. Depending which head you use i think some will fit the contemptor without dremelling the torso to create a void. For the head swap on my contemptor, i dremmeled out the torso, glued the head in then resculpted the missing area of torso. I suspect some of the other head variants can just be filed down to fit.

One last thing i suggest, provided you don't already of course, is magnetise the arms so you can use any weapon options you fancy. You can joint the arms in 2 places quite easily with 3mm diameter rare earth magnets and its well worth the half hour it takes.

Hope that helps and didnt come across as patronising.

Now, model wise.......I've been very lazy since finishing the contemptor and despite the need to finish my bloodthirster and bloodletters, as well as the terminators, i've done nothing this weekend except sit thinking of what to do with the FW decimator that should be turning up this week.

Very excited i have to say and will post pics once i unbox. I ordered 1 butcher cannon arm and one soul burner petard, just because they look quite cool. The plan is to be naughty and cast up a second of each. As i wont be selling any copies i cant see this being a problem, i just object to paying 9 quid per arm. Thats a grand total of about 81 quid for all possible weapons options plus the 35 quid for the main model. Eventually i'll get all the ranged weapon options and cast up 2 of each.

With regards to the butcher cannons, they are not really what i envisaged from the description so i will be converting them to either have a drum feed, or at least 4 belt fed barrels...... still TBC. I will probably take the opportunity to cast up an extra and modify it to fit the contemptors elbow.

Not sure of the other conversions yet, possibilities include head swap/extra sculpted details, possibly casting up a second leg with the face around the knee, so the model looks more symettrical. Possible World Eaters iconography to be added as well as trophiy racks.

I suspect the pose of the decimator will end up quite static compared to the contemptors, however, seeing as the decimator is basically a much needed ranged firepower platform for my World Eaters it should be quite fitting. I may end up adding muzzle flashes to the butcher cannons so it looks a bit more dynamic.

Too many ideas and i dont want to ruin what is already a lovely kit......

cheers

Don't be. His death with be quite quick, I'm sure. What's the matter mortal? The hellish Chaos death machine just wants to give you a hug.

I have to agree that it's too bad there wasn't a model that had more of a 'fearful, stumbling, hopelessly scrambling to get away' pose, but what you've done is a perfect compromise. I'm sure fear of such a monster, charging headlong towards you, will have men reacting in all manner. At least some will keep their wits and try to sprint in a straight line away... if they're smart.
