Scratchbuilt Arvus Lighter project(In a slightly larger scal

Recommended Posts

As is always the way, i was at work since 0800 today but, due to a friend coming in who wanted me to make him a mould box for some gaming wall part he had, i managed to get two lines drawn on the arvus... In pencil...

I did get pics of the component parts as they are right now though, and a pic of the engine intake vane parts.

Here are the pics:

heh, for the fun of it, that Arvus Lighter should be painted in the brown/yellow/white UPS aircraft sheme with a UPS brand on one side of the nose.. "Universal Parcel Service, serving the Imperium of Man since M2"

Other then that, stunning work. absolutely stunning..

I really love this project. People should do stuff like this more often. I love the detail you're putting into it. When you coat it like that I almost get the feeling like you cast the entire thing.

I hope you'll continue doing projects like this.

Thanks a lot. Thanks for your kind words. The UPS idea is a great one. Unfortunately, i already have a nice scheme picked out. I can tell you that i am seriously planning to do more builds of the Arvus. Perhaps a "jokey" build later one can be done in that colourscheme.

If i do make another "for fun", i will paint it up in EVERY post office scheme, take plently pics of each, and move on to the next one. But for this one, it will be done in a scheme i have seen on the net already.

Thanks also for taking the time to post your opinion. I have posted this thread on several forums, and on some, i am the only one posting, lol. No-one seems to want to post any comments!

Thanks again for posting.

Thanks very much. The idea with adding the primer after each step is to tie all the details in. Otherwise it's hard to get the feeling of the whole thing.

I added the engine details under the wing today. I didn't go overboard as no-one will ever see it because it will be hidden under the wing. But i will know it's there...

And for all the extra detail, the reason for that is that this build is absolutely gigantic. It deserves a bit extra, even if that is made up for this build. If the Arvus was real, you'd expect extremely fine detailing. Rest assured i WILL be going nuts with the detailing...

As it is, i am tempted to scribe new panelling on the whole craft BECAUSE it's so huge. A real craft would be COVERED in panels. All with rivetting. I have a rivetting tool for this one, incidentally.

I will accept thoughts on whether i should scribe the whole craft with new panelling. Feel free to chime in on that note.

I'll have to get a picture of it with me holding it. This one even dwarfs the 1/24 F-302 from Stargate i built a while ago(Not in wingspan of course, but in sheer volume).

I Also found some weapons to use in the gun locker the Arvus will have. A GI JOE pistol(Slightly large in the scale i am doing, but at the back of the craft it will not be too noticable), a GI JOE rifle(I have cut that up into rifle body, scope mount, and ammo clip. I will cast multiples of the parts so i can not only have several rifles in the rack, i can also have a shelf full of extra ammo clips), two holstered Sigma Six pistols and two Megabloks HALO shotguns. The weapons locker will have enough to equip a ten man team with handguns, rifles and shotties, plus plenty of ammo for all weapons. The weapons locker will be on the front wall of the cargo bay, on the left after exiting the cockpit.

In addition, just for the hell of it, i took a picture of the mechanic gal standing at the back of the cockpit behind the pilot...

Ok I can't contain this any longer... I really want some of those female models...

They are VERY nice models. I love them to bits. They have a new one coming out in September i have it on preorder.

You must have a lot of spare time on your hands mate, so wish I had the time to dedicate to something as awesome as this! Really enjoyed following this thread & will continue to do so!!!

It's not about spare time. My workshop is in the same building as my dayjob...(The benefits of working for my Dad is that when he rented new office space with three very large rooms and only needed one for our actual work, he gave the other two to me for my hobby... Link below. Prepare to be blown away, lol).

(Taken a few weeks back when i was only a couple of days into the Arvus build).

This is just......just......words cannot describe! The Arvus is hardly a common model, and yet you've turned it into something fantastic. Really looking froward to seeing it completed

Thanks a lot. I find in my posts(Here and on other warhammer forums), most people have never even heard of the Arvus.

I love it's stubby shape and clunky scifi chic.

I hope my build can do the design justice when i finally finish.

That day is coming fast.

That is AWESOME! So do you & your dad run your own model business or are they all your own models? To say I am envious is an understatement!!!!!!!!!!! If only my wife was as thoughtful of my hobby as your dad is about yours..... Still that is one awesome vid, you should have added some narration then called the vid B&C: CRIBs :(

Lol. My Dad owns a taxi business. We got that office unit for 1/4 of what the previous office cost us in another part of town.

And that office is close to four times the size of the old one...

The models are purely my hobby. My job is working for the family taxi bsuiness.

Okey cokey.

Time for a reasonable update. I hope everyone reading this is as impressed with the work here as i was when i flipped the switches to turn on the lighting systems today when i was finished.

First of all a list of what i got done.

I got the upper wing support butresses finished finally. With them sanded into shape, i added the rest of the upper wing details.

I got the rest of the parts primed as i intend to show this off tomorrow to a few people i know. I decided i needed to do a full lighting test just to make sure there was room for everything, and that none of the lights needed extra cabling.

It turns out the cockpit dashboard light could do with being maybe 6cm longer. I'll get that done on wednesday at work.

But for now, everything seems to fit and, except for the undersides of the wings(Which i have yet to do), the craft is pretty much finished except for painting.

I have a few pics of the ship during the WIP stuff today, several of the lights all on, and three Youtube vids of the lights working.

I'd REALLY appreciate comments guys if you like the work.

Thanks for looking and enjoy today's update.

More soon, i promise.

Easy enough need to satisfy, as this is a fantastic build you've got here! I really like it, and the red/green nav lights for left/right really pushed my admiration for your attention to deatil over the top.

Thanks a lot. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to post a comment, positive OR negative.

The lights just seemed like they would make it pop when being viewed. I don't usually go to model shows, but i think i might see about showing this off around the place...

Now we just need to see a space marine that scale!

I will get on to that. Is there just the one design for Space Marine armour?

Anyone got a picture of a definitive design?
