Seriously Elmo, the quality and consistency of your Heresy-era stuff is amazing. Don't you feel the urge to continue with 30k stuff? Really - the result is top notch and if you really try you can make units that are comatible with both systems. Oh, who am I kidding? just go 30k full throttle!

NO!

The bank manager would kill me!

Great marines as always. the 30k aesthetic for DA is really tempting.

On another note, I seem to recall you maybe posting a tutorial about how you weathered your tanks, is that actually up (and where?) If not, mind sharing? Doing up a Predator right now and a weather job might just save it from being hideously bland and blotchy ;)

Sorry for the delay in replying - busy at work :D

Thanks for the comment.

I have not put up a tutorial for the weathering but here is the basic method:

1. Get the vehicle to the clean standard with any normal washes you use

2. Using a stipple brush or an old drybrush paint on the tracks/track guards/areas of hull that would be splashed if driving in mud (use RL photos of vehicles as a guide:

a. Scorched brown

b. Bestial Brown

c. Graveyard earth

d. Devlin mud in recesses and run down from boltheads/rivets and hinges.

The trick is to randomly splatter the colours to create an irregular look - keep the darker colour lower down and the lighter colour higher up on the vehicle. Don't get carried away - you can always add more later :D

3. For the paint scratches:

a. Chaos black "stripes" on areas likely to attract scratches (corners/hatches/door edges/handles)

b. Boltgun stripes on top of the black allowing the edges of the black to show through.

c. Devlin mud wash over the boltgun to give a rusty look

I have used all the old GW paint names but just use one of the paint conversion charts for the new names or other manufacturers.

Hope this helps ;)

Man I love your stuff, personal favourite is the Heresy Era DA.

;)

The 30k stuff is outstanding. A new era dawns for Elmo although he (or his bank manager :D ) may not know it yet!

Brother Elmo, it's bad enough that I have a friend who keeps badgering me with new ideas for FW units, but seeing your painted Tactical Squad is seriously making me consider ordering some. Stop doing this to me or I will cry!

In all seriousness, awesome work as usual. Truly inspirational.

Thanks Brothers, much appreciated :whistling:

but specially @ Captain Semper: No!

No new era - I still have tooooo much to do! Bad Semper for even suggesting..... hang on - I could say they are Xmas prezzies for the kids ;)

Just had a mad vision.....

How about a Landraider Ares Line Breaker Squadron in Bone White with a red Deathwing icon on the dozer blades :tu:

Off to see the bank manager on Monday.... would need 3 Vindicators and 3 Landraider Crusaders ;)

DO WHAT MUST BE DONE! :HQ:

Also, I haven't gotten to weathering the tank yet, but I had to whip out a plasma gunner yesterday for my game last night and totally went and found and stole your robes recipe. It's completely ace and I kinda want to rip apart everyone else with robes to re-do them. So thanks for that too :D

Decembers vow taken care off? ;)

You guys

I have been doing a little investigating.....

I would need the following for each Ares:

LR Crusader

Vindicator

FW LR extra armour

This would cost almost 100 UK beer tokens at GW prices (no doubt I could make a little saving using one of the well known e-stores B) )

(The Crusader has with the wrong flamer - the only place I have seen the heavy flamer so far is on the Baneblade weapons sprue - luckily I have 4 HF from a Baneblade in my bits box)

But it would also mean that the left over bits from the vindicator could be used to make a Rhino which would be nice B).

I reckon about a month per vehicle build and paint wise so it would be a long term project.

Still undecided, it would be loads of dosh and time away from my painting backlog!

  • 1 month later...

Shamelessly cross posting images rolleyes.gif

Image removed - new one in post #273

I also have to admit that after I was given another Landraider crusader for Xmas I could not resist the urge - I will report to Cell 42

as I also then ordered another Vindicator

and the LR extra armour and DA doors from FW

to build a Landraider Ares - http://www.games-wor...Raider_Ares.pdf

should be starting work on it in the next month or so and looking to have it completed some time in summer working around all my other projects - see my DeviantArt link for what I have been up to with my other forces......

Just to show that I have not completely turned from the Lion here are some of the upcoming projects....

and I have still got 3 DV boxes worth to paint teehee.gif

My wife was a sweetie, and I have what's in that pic, but doubled up on the DW and RW boxes (not the flyer). I'm trying to keep from buying another couple of each! There's just so much good stuff!

Elmo, that Librarian looks fantastic, you did a great job!
