Blackadders Warlord WIP

Recommended Posts

I think you need to have a SNES Super Advantage controller on the console like in Ghostbusters II. =D

Not to be pedantic, but I think you'll find that it was a Nes Advantage Joystick :)

Haven't checked on this since the early days and all I can say is WOW! :tu:

The amount of detailing is staggering.

So whats next, fully detailed Imperator? :)

No I think the Warlord is as big as practical. I have yet to see an Emperor Titan that stirs my need to build one. Replicating the DS Warlord was a passion to me.

Below is the rough appearance of the flight station blast doors. I was going to make them to slide open but it smacks of gimmickry.

Looking amazing. The attention to detail is staggering.

On the idea of moving blast doors I hear what you are saying when you say gimmicky. For the deciding factor would be wether or not you will see all the detail you've modeled and painted when its all stuck together.

Keep up the amazing work. I'm certainly following this thread.

The command deck as pictured and the flight deck will be removable as well as visible with the rear panel removed. Also the helmet will be removable to view the interior of the cockpit which will also separate from the neck.

Despite the dubious practical value of the head machinations to move side to side and up and down by which I mean that a simple turret mounted video camera could accomplish the same with a lot less technology one cannot dismiss the distinct psychological effect on the enemy in the focus of that unfeeling stare as the great visage ponderously turns in your direction to transfix you in its soulless gaze.

The magnets are all in place to secure the neck in the up and locked position and hold the helmet in place. Not a bad amount of work for the morning 'fore Christmas.

WOW simply WOW!!!!! This is one of the most epic things I've seen around here!!!

Man keep it up. You're doing hell of a work out there. I love your work and really try sometimes to converti t to DE army (my 2nd after CSM) with various outcome.

hope you don't mind.

Cheers

Not too sure about DE (doesn't seem to fit Dark Eldar contextually) but CSM stands for Chaos Space Marines

How does one convert a Warlord titan to either Dark Eldar or Chaos Space Marines? I'm a little backwards when it comes to defining the various Armed Forces branches in 40K

Yeah I know it looks like I am posting the same pictures but I am trying to convince myself that the nose and cheek armour fits okay.

First I have to prime the bits beneath and then glue on the face armour so it has to be right the first shot.

I figure if I see it in a photo it will show me where the discrepancies lie. Totally discount that the armour is slightly askew; rubber bands only can accomplish just so much and no more.

Plus I gotta go out to dinner, another waste of precious model building time.

Don't they know theres a war on!

Dark Eldar wouldn't be viable for converting a Warlord (completely different design aesthetic), but to Chaosify one all you'd need to do is add baroque trim to the armour similar to Chaos Marines, some chains and a few trophy racks and maybe some sections with a more organic look (ala the movie Virus).

Internal conversions could include the crew merging with the Titan in various ways.

Here's an example, not sure who made it though.

The following observation is from a fan on another forum. Not being a football aficionado I wasn't aware of this similarity:

It looks like an angry viking or dwarf with a mustache... I ponder if that was the original artists representation?

For reference, see the Minnesota Vikings logo.

I checked that out and I've never seen that logo before (not a football fan); the resemblance is uncanny.

Its getting more and more difficult to take these assembled images. The parts keep falling off and out of place but I can't glue any of them on as yet as they need further detailing and of course painting.

Below you see the overall effect of the model with the scale 28 MM figure in the foreground at its feet and a Lucius Baneblade for comparison:

This is looking great, must be a complete labour of love. I had noticed the Minnesota Vikings logo similaritys when you first started building the head :) Are you planning o bulking up the thigh plates a little more? Also can I ask what the DS Titan is?

There is a tremendous amount of thigh detail still to make. The thighs on the model are not that thick side to side but the hydraulic cylinders inboard and outboard bulk them up a lot. If the basic thigh was thicker the cylinders would make it ungainly.

DS stands for Dave Smith. It is his titan I am attempting to replicate with minor variations...............................

Such as where his is a static display all the joints in mine are movable including the toes and ankles.

I love this pose, it seems to say, "Go ahead, make my day."

What's Latin for, "Dirty Harry?"

Looking up; well because the hip bolts loosened:

No time to tighten them as I have another Holiday commitment................

The Weapon Spaced armour was the initial subject for the new year thus far. I wasn't too satisfied with the gauntlet armour as it appears on the DS model. It seemed too short front to back and made the guns look barrel heavy There is a add on counterweight plate that Mr Smith added and I shall add it as well but I also elongated the from tan rear bevel and increased the overall length of the armour 19.5 MM.

My issue with the entire 40K

Hey Blackadder, been following this for a long time and its fantastic to see it coming to fruition.

To put my 2 cents of ideas into your pot, judging by the front view photo i think it needs to have the arm weapons poised as though they were angled outwards slightly, (as opposed to hanging down at a right-angle to the shoulder sockets), which may give it a slightly more.....non-compressed silhouette, as though it were squeezing through a tight door frame. It would probably give it a much more menacing air, as well.

Either way, it is the bigest source of inspiration for my Stormbird!

By arms hanging down at right angles are you referring to the stanchions? While I am not satisfied with the support system I have yet to devise an alternative that will give me the mobility of the arm in such a confined space. These arms can swing 45° from full forward and also move about 15°inboard toward center all the while pivoting up or down about 30°. That kind of flexibility would be hard to achieve with anything other than a right angle support unless I have missed something.

It would be as a turret on a battleship mounted on an angle. As it rotated the elevation would change.

  • 2 weeks later...

That's what this thread is all about; sharing the techniques.......

Today we're going to tackle the manufacture of removable panels.

Misguided as I am I am under the delusion that interior detail will be a plus for this construct.

The problem is how to access viewing of said detail.

The answer is rare earth magnets. I bought mine at Harbor Freight; 10 magnets 5/16" dia. X 5/64" thick for about a buck and change per package

The first order of instruction is "DON"T SWALLOW THESE MAGNETS!" I am given to understand that they will stick together in your small intestine and cause blockage that could result in having to be surgically removed.

That obvious caution rendered, the problem is how to glue these to the frame of your compartment so as to take full advantage of their marvelous properties.

I came up with this method:

I cut thin sections from Evergreen 3/8" square box beam extrusion and glued them after squaring the cut to a piece of 0.020 scrap sheet styrene.

http://i.imgur.com/i8oXJl.jpg

I the incapsulated a magnet into the recess and sanded the rim down to almost flush with the magnet face.

I then glued a scrap of 0.010 sheet styrene to the rim, allowed to dry, sanded off the excess and had a magnet ready to be incorporated into the opening.

I used eight magnets instead of magnets and washers to close off the front chest panel on my titan as I wanted a tight seam.

I used variations on this to affix the neck in the vertical and up position and to secure the helmet to the cockpit.
