Blackadders Warlord WIP

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd let you in on the ground floor of building the catwalks. I received a lot of commentary regarding my choice of floor material for my catwalks so I have revised my nomenclature to redefine the existing 'catwalks' to 'galleries' and add gen-u-wine(sic) catwalks employing expanded metal mesh (Thanks to all for the suggestion.) of course I'm not actually going to buy said expanded metal mesh but raid the kitchen of the long suffering Ms. Blackadder and cut up her splatter shield to supplement my recycle stock. Never fear I shall replace her splatter shield with an apropos Mother's Day gift (''thereby killing two birds with one stone'' i.e. gift and building material)

The ever resourceful,

Blackadder

anyway here is the beginning of the plug in catwalk module(s)

Watch the agony columns for updates on my pending separation...............

You know, I post on a lot of different forums, and just a few days ago I started posting on a German forum and it got me to thinking what the country of origin is of various forum I post on. What country of origin is B@C.com?

The two long strips will be attached to the catwalk proper and the U shaped channel top left will clip onto the carapace inner frame for ease of removal as this delicate construct will need constant repair.I will most probably remove it when the Titan is gaming.

B&C is owned and hosted out of the UK. Host location may change with the new server in May though.

Thanks,

Cat walks railing installed and the left side catwalk on cutting board showing the hook channel that holds it to the inner carapace frame and yet be removable because they are just too delicate to withstand the 'Dogs of War'.

Note how far I had to move the gun stanchion inboard from its original proposed position. I have to put some sort of hatch there to cover the hole.

I have been thinking about how I am going to make a sensible engineering department out of the two story area beneath the command deck and fit a viable fusion reactor deck in the cramped space above the command deck when suddenly this morning an epiphany!!!!!

The lower space will be the reactor room and the upper space will be engineering.

Egad! How simple and it totally makes sense that the extremely heavy reactor would be in the lowest level of the torso and the mechanic dedicated area where the high maintenance equipment is. Access to the armament and legs through the carapace, easy access to the critical Void shield generators and the huge cooling fans and vents at the rear of the reactor room exhausting outboard behind the lower deck..................

Simple right? so why did it take me a year to realize it?

It's needless to say that this project, this titan makes Omnissiah proud. And I bet that the guy is a big fan of yours (well, me too! I hold your work in the highest regards).

But I have one question which I'm sure has been asked already: do you keep track of the time you've devoted to this build? I'm not asking about the money, because they're probably irrelevant because of the enormity of the titan's awesomeness and the immense pride you must be feeling, but I'm really curious about how many hours did it take you to get from nothing to THIS.

I figure about an hour a day for just over a year because a lot of days I don't work on it but sometimes such as in the past week I can devote a lot of time to it.

I haven't a clue as to the cost and I don't want to know but I replenish my supply of styrene and glue one a month and I usually spend about 20 bucks.........so although I have a full stock of Evergreen styrene at the moment $250 so far........

No more like mad in a manic obsessive sort of way..............

The reactor level is coming along quickly. I should have realized this sooner instead of butting my head against an nonviable engineering room design. Well at least I didn't have to tear anything out

The diagonal reinforcement knees and the room header in the background seems to belong in this setting.

Note how much of the room walls can be removed,

There is plenty of free space for painting and lighting installation.

How is that little thing holding the upper body of the Titan up?!?? I would be in constant fear that if it was tipped in any fashion the entire thing would crumble under its own weight, like some sort of beaches whale.

The "real" Titan or the model? The model being based on the 40K design.............

The model, maybe even the real ones. It looks to me like all the weight of the upper body is on that tiny box housing the reactor, which looks like it only has four little support beams to hold up that entire thing. It's incredible.

I see what you mean although there are very few images of a Warlord from the back. That large triangular chest hides the fact that the waist deck is rather small on every one that I google.

I don't know what to say other than I want my Warlord to reflect the same proportions as the accepted norm and it is a given that with all four exterior panels in place the problem is eliminated. It's just that it is not usually seen without those panels.

There will be a big revelation as to the source of the LED lighting once I refine the installation but right now it was just stuck under the (yes) laundry detergent cap.

You will be very surprised I'm sure.

I have no doubt I will be.  This entire project has astounded me.

Now I have to convince my wife not to throw away the cap to the detergent when we run out soon.  :)  That's too useful an idea not to yoink.

Yeah but you've got to get the clear one BTW the cap is compatible with styrene cement, something I just found out...........

I was on such a roll last evening I forgot to take pictures until this morning. I felt the reactor needed a walkway and possibly a handrail ladder to the top so this might or mightn't work but what the hell I indulged myself. The walkway around the reactor will have a break in it for a ladder to descend to the reactor room floor and another ladder to the summit of the dome. For whatever purpose I cannot as yet fathom but it would be fun to have...............

The stanchions with out the rail in installed:

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, I know that you're building this very much to scale. I'm simply sayig, it's incredible that its holding it all up, I almost don't belive that it is doing so alone. How did you make it so strong? Because it looks like its the same material.

I bet that you're going I be adding quite a bit of weight with the paint...
