What I mean is are you just going to paint it or try to make a type of scenery out of it? Because if you go with the second one you can go with some type of blood marsh thing to fit in with your death theme and even take some inspiration from your story. It'll be done just like any terrain, sculpted, modeled, textured, etc. I am thinking about going with rock/rubble/grass, so it matches my bases, with lots of goodies thrown in.
