and without any further ado, are some fairly average photos of the Dark Talon in all its glory.......

(it also has magnetised weapon options for the Nephilim and Storm Talon if I decide to run it as an allied C:SM flyer)

  • 1 month later...

Thanks chaps! Well, I haven't been slacking off in the month since I posted last, I've been repainting old minatures.... not very exciting, but it needed to be done. So I'm now in a position where I really should do an updated army shot.... hopefully I'll get round to it in between puppy training a new Cocker Spaniel called Charlie and looking after the kids msn-wink.gif

However, I have also been getting some ideas about a Heresy force, and the new L&T event has sparked me off. I'd purchased a bunch of Anvil Industry snipers to use for my GotC, but I'm also going to use them for my Heresy force as a Legion Reconnaissance squad. Here is a quick wip shot of where I am so far.....

Red cloak? How is that going to work in a Heresy First Legion army, I hear you say! Simple.... Cameleoline.... their cloaks are blending in to the reddish glow of the fires of a bombed-out Mechanicum Forge (which will be represented on the bases)..... Anyway, here he is so far....

He was hiding the fact that he was naked ;)

Not anymore! :)

Still wip though.....

This really is an awesome army mate! thumbsup.gif I particularly like the Terminator Command Squad with the Grey Knight helms (and the individual fluff for each model) and the biker librarian.

Quick question: How does the Anvil Industry Sniper compare scale wise to normal GW marines? According to the AI web site, the Black OP snipers are supposed to be more lightly armoured, but it looks like they're the same as normal exo-lords (and therefore pretty much the same as a marine), just without the shoulder pads. Been debating getting the sniper squad but I'm not sure whether I'd use them as scouts or a Sternguard equivalent.

Keep up the excellent work, this is still my favourite GotC army that I've seen smile.png

Thanks mate! biggrin.png

The Anvil snipers are very similar in scale to normal marines.... I'll take a picture and post it tonight to compare the two. Compared to the Anvil Black Ops Fireteam they are identical apart from no helmets and no bulky shoulder pads. I haven't compared them directly to the older Anvil Exo-Lords (used to be called Steam Lords) but I have some of them and can stick them in the photo too smile.png

The snipers' armour is bulky enough to be full power armour (which is great for me using the snipers as a Legion Recce squad in a heresy era force), but different enough from standard power armour that you can say its based on carapace armour imo. The size is fine for my fluff as well, as the GotC (in my fluff at least - link below if you click on the Chapter Master pic in my sig) doesn't allow its 10th Company scouts to become full battle brothers until after they have had all of their implants and completed a solo scouting mission in "enemy" territory (for "enemy" read "non-Unforgiven" msn-wink.gif). So these guys are fully fledged battle brothers in everything except name.

I really like the Anvil models, and if I ever did a XX Legion force I'd definitely be using the Black Ops range as they are just amazing!

Cheers mate smile.png I've used quite a few Anvil minis for my Sword Bearers (mainly the robed models, but some of the other Exo-Lords as well), so I thought the snipers would probably be the same scale. Wanted to check though as I've read a comment online from Joel (of Anvil Industry) referring to them as lightly armoured recon troops, so I wondered if they might be a bit smaller than the other kits.

Have you got the complete 5 man sniper team? If so, how easy do you think it would be to replace the ammo clips on the rifles with drum mags? Basically I'm thinking of using them as pseudo-sternguard squad for a small Black Guard (RG successor) army. I know they're single piece models but it looks like the mags are accessible enough to carve out and replace.

I've read your Guardians IA before btw and it's excellent, one of my favourites from the Brotherhood of Angels competition thumbsup.gif

So, I finally got the time to do a few army shots, although I didn't get time to do my Ravenwing, as everyone came back from the kiddies' birthday parties they'd been attending tongue.png

Firstly, the 1st Company......

21 Terminators arranged over 4 squads, a Command Squad and Deathwing Knights squad. Also pictured are the Company Master and Librarian....

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/IMG_1571_zps09d2e19d.jpg

Now for some more extensive 3rd Company shots, including all of my Dreadnoughts....

In total there are 4 tactical squads (plus half a dozen extra guys for those Standard of Devastation moments when I want to lose the special and heavy weapons), a full assault squad, two small devastator squads, 10 veterans/command squad guys, and a Chapter Master, 2 Company Masters, librarian and two Chaplains (one with jump pack).....

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/IMG_1572_zps6f9592ae.jpg

3rd and 4th Tactical Squads and the 'spare' marines....

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/IMG_1577_zps702bba97.jpg

The veterans and a Razorback....

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/IMG_1573_zpsc6d5cb4d.jpg

The Chapter and Company commanders, 2nd Tactical Squad (plasma) and all three Dreadnoughts (one still bearing the black of the Legion)....

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/IMG_1574_zps5cc3dc72.jpg

1st Tactical Squad and the Assault Squad with Jump Pack Chaplain....

http://i548.photobucket.com/albums/ii324/facmanpob/Miniatures/Space%20Marines/IMG_1575_zps0e2afe2d.jpg

enough heavy weapons to make multiple devastator squads, and a 'Guardian-pattern' Whirlwind...

That's a really nice force. I really like the tone you gave to your metal... Really dark and old, not like those shiny GK...

It seems to me that you lack some transport huh? One single RZB for one company it's rather few.

Do you plan adding some rhino/DP/LR? (and therefore make a huge vow in currus belli ;) )

Thanks Spaced Hulk! I'm looking forward to seeing some paint on your guys in the near future! msn-wink.gif

Yeah I've kind of steered clear of transports and other vehicles in the past. I can run the WW as a Rhino, so it's not all bad msn-wink.gif

I'm vowing a Predator for the Currus Belli, as that ties in with what I want to do with the Loyalty and Honour event as well, and the Pred will be fully magnetised so will also be run as a Rhino on occasion. I do plan to do a Land Raider at some point as well, but it won't be for a while yet.

My army used to be shiny and silver when I first started painting them. All that changed about 18 months ago when the first ETL competition started, which has necessitated going back and repainting everything, so everything (and I mean everything) in the pictures above has either been freshly painted or repainted in the last 18 months (and it doesn't include the Ravenwing element of Sammy, a biker libby and chappy, 5 BK, 12 bikes, 3 AB, 2 speeders and a partridge in a pear tree Dark Talon/Nephilim)..... I much prefer the gritty/grimy/knackered look to the newer paint scheme than the older "GK"-ish paint scheme msn-wink.gif

Great army man. Ive been following your post since a couple of months and I painted my DA as GotC for many reasons, but one of them was your army hehe.

This pictures fill my body with some new energy to keep painting my DA, as Ive been upset for a long time becouse of personal problems.

Anyway, congratulations again.

Keep that work, brother.

Well I can see how magnetize is good for weapon swap (I still must publish my nephilim/DT magnet tutorial), but I refuse to create a competition between a transport tank and a support tank.

Armour saturation is the key of armour survivability.

So I don't want being forced to choose, they have to be fieldable both for the same game.

I agree, and in an ideal world I'd have Predators, Vindys, Land Raiders etc. However, when you have 3 armies-in-one (Greenwing, Deathwing and Ravenwing) to paint, some things have to take a back seat, and unfortunately it has been the armour. However, that should be changing with me starting a heresy force.... as I'm gonna definitely get me some FW tanks! tongue.png

For the Lion! Snipers complete.....

the dude on the left is having his face touched up since I took this photo earlier, but that's a minor thing and doesn't stop me declaring them complete.... smile.png
