Once again, thanks for the positive replies! ^_^

I agree with Master Toddius, that's a really original and great way to do the magnetizing of the special weapons, because you can really imagine that the riders probably really do sling their weapons while their are truly riding their hogs!

I remember reading in one of the early Horus Heresy books about a marine (can't remember which one.....maybe one of the Emperor's Children fighting the Laeran) who clamps his bolter to his leg using magnetic clamps before wading into CC with his chainsword. I always thought that would be great to model at some point and when I was looking at ways of magnetising the special guns on the bikes it popped into my head that they could mag-clamp it to the bike! Then I spotted the skulls on the side of the bike fairings and realised it was the perfect place to drill, and Bingo! ;)

Are you planning on doing some of the "spidery, hand-written and illuminated text" (per the Codex) on their armor, bike farings and fenders? I think you could do some really cool stuff with that!

I was thinking of it but have been scratching my head about the best colours to use. As I'm keeping the right shoulder guard unadorned....just boltgun metal with lots of washes of nuln oil....that would be a good place to start, but I don't want to spoil the look! Any help or advice greatly appreciated :)

I couldn't be bothered to paint last night, so I did the bolter drilling instead.......also did the various special weapons too.....now just got to do the exhausts ;)

I also did the Assault Cannon for the speeder, and the eagle-eyed amongst you will spot that I missed one of the barrels...corrected it after spotting it on the photo!

[EDIT - updated as of 10 August 2012]

So, the vow progresses.....with the 6 bikes done, it has been the turn of the Attack Bike on the paint station.....

As you can see, its nearly done...just the eyes, MM gun barrels and a few bits of tidying up to do (such as the back of the driver's head!)....

The MM is magnetised so I can swap it out for a HB if desired...

the photos are courtesy of my new iphone, proper, finished photos will follow once I've finished the Land speeder!

This is a fantastic squad with a unique painting style! I really like it facmanpob it's inpsiring stuff!!!

So:

6 bikes? - Check!

Attack Bike? 98% done

Land Speeder? I think you;re done with the actual vechicle and it's just the crew remaining?

Thanks :)

You're pretty much right about the squad, although I had a good paint session tonight and finished off the AB. I also managed to finish off the speeder (I just have to magnetise and paint the weapons), so I should be done by Monday at the latest. That'll be a welcome 425 points for the ETL total! ;)

OK, so what with the footy and all last night.....that's a couple of hours of my life I'll never get back!....I managed to do only a small amount of work on the vow.

However, the vow is nearly complete.......the only thing left to do is the detail work on the Land speeder....namely the Assault cannon, Heavy Bolter and crew....which essentially means that if its warm and each wash dries quickly I'll get finished tonight....I would really like to get it finished in time for Captain Semper's update tomorrow!

After that, I'll be vowing an Interrogator Chaplain on bike for a further 150 points! :D

For the glory of the Chapter, the Lion, and the 1st Legion.......the vow is complete! ;)

I'll do some group shots of the whole Attack Squadron tomorrow evening, but for now...... a beer! ;)

facmanpob:

Well done, brother! The red on the attack bike looks amazing. The dark blue console is very sharp. In fact, it looks so good, I would like to try this on my own squad. Drilling out the exhaust pipes is a nice touch; I've started doing this on mine as well. I like the large icon on the front of the speeder; I had never considered using that particular bit, but I must say it paid off nicely. You've a stunning squad here.

I'm looking forward to the group shot and the forthcoming chaplain.

FC

facmanpob, this is really cool stuff there! You made for a very unique style for the GotC, very unique indeed. I also love the fact you went for RW and congratulations for completing your vow!

Enjoy your beer - well deserved mate!

:) Thanks for all the positive comments, it means a lot to me, and is a great motivator to try to improve my painting abilities!

As promised, here are some photos of the completed first Vow......Ravenwing Attack Squadron Azmaveth

The weapons loadouts are all magnetised, so the speeder can be operated as a Typhoon in a Support Squadron

and both the Attack Bike and Speeder have Multi-Melta or Heavy Bolter options (no Heavy Flamer for the speeder....yet!)

@FinylCut - The consoles were interesting to do, I used both washes and glazes, and I think I can do better with them next time! :)

And finally, vow 2 has been pledged in the ETL thread....an Interrogator Chaplain on a Bike for 150 points....work starts on him tomorrow! :)

Everything is awesome in style and application. I like your bases a lot too – great colours you've picked there. If I was going to make a suggestion I'd say the speeders could do with larger or more dark red areas (to match the bikes) but that's just me and takes nothing from your stunning GotC. Congrats on the vow completion.

[edit] PS: great use of magnets !!! [/edit]

Cheers

I

Nice you done it!

I always thought that the GotC paintscheme may look weird, but it looks surprisingly cool! I esp fallen in love with you speeder, looks really like sth which is used in battle!

Not sure what Isiah means, as fas as i can see u used red for the weapons like u did for the bikes? I guess he means the GotC red-brownish colour? If so i have to disagree, nice washed out look there plus i like the placement of it...maybe those hatches on the sides, but dunno, shouldnt be too much...Id really like to see it in RL, photos kinda loose something always i guess! :)

Anyway, GJ there on your GotC esp nice magnetizing, almost overlooked it

Thanks Isiah! -_-

re magnets - with the revelation that Power Weapons are being split into different AP groupings, I am relieved that I magnetised the Sergeant's weapon arms.....I can field Power Fist, Power Maul and Power Sword in the bike squad currently, and I'm sure I could find a lance and an axe in my bits box if I need it! :)

re your suggestion about more red areas - its a good suggestion, and one I will seriously consider for "retro-fitting". :tu: I'm pretty happy with the paint job as it is, and consider it finished for the purposes of the ETL, but I will inevitably come back to them in the future for tweaking. On my list to consider so far are:

spidery armour text

further/deeper red areas for the speeder

heavy flamer for the speeder

Apothecary and Banner swap outs for Brothers Gadal and Shax

possibly basing the flying stand...not sure on this one

more purity seals/parchment for the bikes

For now though I'm going to paint the Chaplain for the Glory of the Legion! And then maybe that Venerable Dreadnought still sitting in its box .... ;)

Id really like to see it in RL, photos kinda loose something always i guess! :)

Thanks Brother Chaplain! -_- Funny I was thinking that myself when looking through the pictures....if the sun stays shining today I may try to take some natural light photos in the garden once the kids are in bed, and see how they turn out.

I think the red on the speeder is not quite as deep as that on the bikes as I don't think I did as much Nuln Oil washing on the speeder. The difference between the bikes and the speeder is less noticeable in RL though :tu:

New photos of the completed squad Azmaveth....taken in natural light on this sunny London evening! :) Please note that they are in anti-tank melta mode tonight!

Also, in other news, vow 2 is progressing well, and the Chaplain's bike is almost done, after which I'll paint the Chaplain himself....should be done sometime next week! :)

Vow 2 is progressing well, and should be completed sometime over the weekend.......

Did, I say should?........

...... I mean will! Got some good painting in last night as the missus went out so was undisturbed :) Chaplain will be finished tonight, then I've got to decide on vow 3!
