Taranis
Congratulations on a very nice 4th vow completion. :tu: I like the painting and especially the headgear and shoulders of your Chaplain. Is it a bought or homemade base for Tycho? He looks very promising. :) Â Nova Angels lead the way! LongGone
Hey Merc, I know you said you prime white, wash with nuln oil, and then build back up to white. I'm planning to do the same thing with my DIY. When you do your wash, is it over the entire model or just over the all the recesses? I've had people say both, but I really like the way yours came out.  Thanks,  LG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/256750-mercs-madness/page/5/#findComment-3517117 Share on other sites
xmercx
Hey Merc, I know you said you prime white, wash with nuln oil, and then build back up to white. I'm planning to do the same thing with my DIY. When you do your wash, is it over the entire model or just over the all the recesses? I've had people say both, but I really like the way yours came out.  Thanks,  LG I undercoat with a white spray paint.  Then I paint the areas that are going to be white armor with celestra grey(gw color).  I then normally get at least a base coat of the other colors the model is going to have and then coat the whole thing with nuln oil (gw color).  Then I start to build back up to white.  Lately I have been using shades of grey for this.  Administratum grey (gw color) and then ulthuan grey (gw color) before getting to the coats of white.  End up using a lot less coats of white this way. xmercx
update time again. finally got around to finishing off my sternguard squad. They are a mix of the new MKIII Iron Hands squad (with all the nice bionics), the new sternguard kit (mainly for weapons) and some custom made shoulder pads so I can finally give some life to my chapter symbol. These guys also include a slightly new style of base compared to what I have been doing. Got a pot of the new Agrellan Earth technical paint and have been playing around with it. Anyway, on with the pictures. Next project is likely an inquisitor to make use of the stuff in the new inquisitor codex after which will probably be either more vets (I have another 5 man sternguard and a 5 man vanguard squad to do) or some minions for the inquisitor. feuer_faust
I'm digging the custom symbol and the clean, blocky colors on these guys. Very nice oranges and whites, and love the neat bitz they have all over. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/256750-mercs-madness/page/5/#findComment-3567567 Share on other sites

Working on a "vet" tactical squad using bits from the new kits: Where is that hand from? Pretty sure its from either the Sanguniary Guard kit or the new sternguard kit. Just about everything in the army is a kit bash as I tend to just get kits and sort out the parts into bit boxes and then put guys together later. But those are the only ones I could find that look like they have that part. xmercx
Latest project has been completed. Guess I forgot to post some W.I.P. picks but I was pretty sick the last month so I'm surprised I was able to get anything done at all. Anyway. painted up a second drop pod, this time I used a new toy. I picked up an air brush to try out, mainly used it to do the orange on this and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Still have to work on my white but think this turned out pretty decent. doors closed: close up of symbol: doors open: Action shot: Not sure what my next project is gonna be. Still have a pile of stuff to get through and I want to get a Knight and some of the guard guys to use as a retinue for my inquisitor >.<. The pile of plastic and resin never seems to get smaller...
