Thanks for the encouragement, brothers. Here's a further update:

Just need to get his wings finished, do some quick shading and highlighting on the rock, and flock the base, and he'll be done. Then onto Cassius the Unredeemed ...

I already posted this in the ETL thread, but wanted to put him up here as well for further discussion.

Chaplain Pontius Contristatus.

After much internal debate, I decided to go with white wings and I am very happy with how it turned out. It gives a nice bit of contrast, I think.

Maybe you saw someone else's chaplain with a similar scheme? This is the first and only picture I've posted with wings on my chaplain, and that is the original paint job I did on them.

Some WIP shots of the Storm Raven that is part of my second ETL vow:

I have to say that I like the model a lot better in the flesh than in pictures. Its just not very photogenic but looks fine in real life. Also, here's a close-up of a small conversion I did to the servitor turret to make it more Angels Sorrowful-like. The AS like their bling and are as concerned about good aesthetics as any BA successor, to the point that even their servitors incorporate some art and style:

Took me a couple of evenings to assemble all that ... on to painting starting tonight!

Tomorrow is my 11th anniversary though, so I guess I better take a night off of ETL to spend some time with my wife who I thinks is feeling a bit neglected the past couple weeks with all my ETL painting (definitely devoting more time to the hobby than usual but I want to get as much of my army done during ETL as possible to help the cause and reduce stress leading up to November's tournament).

No worries, Captain Helion, I wrote that a bit tongue-in-cheek.

Here's a fluff question though: how should the techmarine pilot be painted? BA are red anyway so I can't tell if a techmarine should always be all red or just his helmet and pauldron with mechanicus symbol and then the rest in chapter colours?

Yeah, I picked up on that, don't fret. :P I don't think any "sage advice" from me would have been any help anyway.

An interesting question. The BA Codex has the Techmarine in all red, but it is indeed a little tricky to tell which of the two possibilities is going on. But the other specialists in the codex are painted in full body colours, so I'd say it's reasonable to assume that it's the case for a Techmarine.

Personally, I paint my specialists in Chapter colours, with appropriately coloured helmets and shoulderpads (where appropriate). I prefer the cohesion of the shared colour scheme.

Captain Helion: yeah that was my issue. I've noticed with other chapters like ultra marines that the specialists like apothecaries get the all white treatment and chaplains all black but tech marine is just red helmet and pauldron. So I think I'll go that route since I already have lots of different colours in my army between sanguinary priest, chaplain, death company, and sanguinary guard.

Charlo: I've never tried doing a lighting effect and I'm worried it might not turn out well. Cool idea though.

Progress continues, here's a couple WIP's of the Razorback in my 2nd ETL vow:

Have to admit, 1/2 way through that door with the Chapter badge on it, realizing I'm going to have to do 5 more doors like that I wondered "what have I done??"

Definitely just doing one door per vehicle like that. I'm happy with the end result but doing more is just asking for trouble (due to free-handing there will be more inconsistencies the more I do) and time consuming. Although it wasn't too bad.

Thanks Charlo!

Well, the Angels Sorrowful's origin is shrouded in mystery. Given their heraldry and their melancholia they obviously are related to the Lamenters somehow. Some think they are Lamenters successors, others suspect they are Lamenters who either split off before the Badab War or are a "rebranding" of the chapter post penance crusade.

Good news -- Astronomi-con: Imperium Besieged registration opened yesterday at noon. Within minutes the Imperium slots (25) were half-filled but fortunately my entry was among them so I have secured my place in the event. Now just lots of painting to get under my belt before 26 November!

I finished up the first of three Razorbacks yesterday, will post pics later. Started on the Storm Raven.

Here's a rough list of what I need to paint by the end of November (yellow = assembled, unpainted or partially painted; red = do not yet own the model):

12 Tactical Marines

2 Razorbacks

9 Assault Marines w/ jump packs

Fragioso

Dreadnought with assault cannon

2 drop pods

Storm Raven

Mephiston

3 bikes

1 attack bike

5 Death Company on foot

4 jump pack Death Company

Damocles Command Vehicle

1 Rhino

DONE:

Chaplain

Sanguinary Priest

5 Sanguinary Guard

4 Death Company with jump packs

Cassor the Damned

8 Tactical Marines

1 Razorback

3 ASM with jump packs

I will definitely have to keep it pedal-to-the-metal all through the ETL timeframe and see what the situation is then.  But as of now, there's a lot more unpainted than painted.

EDIT: Added colour code

Yes, it sure is satisfying and really helps one see that, yes, progress IS being made on a large project.

As promised, here are pics of the finished Razorback (I will probably add a bit of battle damage yet, but for now I consider it complete):

Plus a little WIP shot of the techmarine in his Storm Raven cockpit:

med_gallery_66537_10027_508979.jpg

I think maybe the direct sunlight was a bit too bright as it's washed out all the shading and highlighting on the red.

Thanks again, Charlo!

Slow but steady wins the race ... finished the Storm Raven's cockpit this evening and glued the canopy glass in place. Got a little bit of frosting and some spots on it as I tried to glue it in there (thought I was being careful but it fell out the first time I tried gluing and I slipped the second time), but it meets the "1 meter test" so its all good as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad I went with just red helmet and sholderpad for the techmarine. I think this is a good look versus all red:
