PATH TO REDEMPTION

The Shadow Guard

Recommended Posts

Have faith brother!

I would be willing to bet my last bolter shell that Shadow Guard has a way for us to atone for our failures, and earn that black pearl.

on another note, I hope the surgery went well, and that all the kinks in your life work themselves out!

Poor Shadow Guard. Running a popular painting event that people are trying to get into early. :D

Oh boy. A surprise. I love surprises. I hope it involves priming and plastic toys soldiers.

Starting Sarcasm Penance.

Don't wish for surprises as you may get far more than you bargain for....

also noticed that Shadow has no pearls of his own......?

Trying to keep tabs on new oaths, failed oaths, redemptors returning, failed redemption oaths, newcomers, failed newcomers, oathkeepers, sarcastic comments from battle brothers, constant prodding from the master of recruits and the huge mountain of enthusiasm shown by this community is time consuming effort...which leaves me no time for painting!!!

well, I failed this month....... between moving unexpectedly, a career change, and my 2 yo having surgery, I couldn't find the time. I might be able to do november but we'll see. sorry guys, I really wanted the black pearl!

I hope your little watcher in the dark has recovered from surgery and gets better soon.... nothing else really matters ....

Nothing a bit of extra hard work can't put right!!...Riiiighht? :D

My October Vow was complete on the 30th been trying to borrow a better camera for better pics but that failed miserably.

Interrogator-Chaplain in Terminator Armor 145pts

We'll take your word for it... :) and add you to the green side! :)

Says Shadow Guard: "for your november oath, as a test of loyalty, you're all ordered to strip your favorite squad down to bare metal/plastic/resin, and repaint it as a squad of grey hunters"

~grin~

Now, you're giving me ideas.... a special task for those redemptors who failed their task.... heh heh!!! brake oil here we come!!! :o :P

Nice work so far everyone.... will have updates soon so hold on to your enthusiasm and we can let it run wild soon!

SG

I woke up in the middle of the night because I thought I heard someone yell paint me. I saw nothing so I got back to sleep.

In the morning I saw my DA Company Master standing at my bed side with a brush and a pot of Caliban green. I don't remember putting him there I thought and I put him back in my figure case and walked down to my car.

There he was on my dashboard with the same pot and brush. So when I arrived to my workplace I locked the car with him still inside.

When I got inside right there on my desk whom do you think I saw, yes him again with the same pot and brush.

So you see, it is not I who is impatient

like herding cats!

I think we can forgive you :)

cheesey as it sounds - my thoughts are with you. hope the little one recovers quickly and everything settles down for you all.

Sad to report that I failed my October oath, due to a freak warp-storm that cut my Battle Barge off from the golden light of the Astronomican. Now that order has been restored and most of the demons purged from my vessel, I'm looking forward to a new month and a less...tempestuous path to redemption.

I have failed the October oath and possibly much more than that, my brothers.

It's been a long, long time since I've had anything close to a fully painted army - more than 12 years at least - and I really did think the Angels of Vengeance would finally give me enough impetus to get a sizable force finished. Sadly, they did not.

There have certainly been eruptions of life to bar my path this month, but I had more than enough time to sit down at my hobby desk and finish my paltry vow of five tac marines. The more I tried to get them finished, the more something inside me rebelled and an unfortunate truth began to dawn on me: I just don't think I'm that interested in playing the game again so there is little desire to "finish an army," as though that ever really happens.

I still love to build them and chop them up and put them back together in new poses and such, and I do think I will finish some individual figures here and there, but I am retiring from the Path to Redemption.

Perhaps, in time, that rebellion inside me will run its course and I will have the beautiful, finished force I know I am capable of.

I wish you luck on your Path, brothers.

May your faith be stronger than mine.

Well Brother Chaplain I hate to hear about any player retiring from playing. I can understand the eruptions of life getting you down, and I can understand that internal rebellion as well.

As cheesy as it may sound, I for one wish you the best no matter where your path may lie. And if that path should bring you back to The Rock...we will still be here waiting.

Brother Chaplain Kage let me say this: I know how you feel. In fact I'd say that most of us that are in the hobby for many many years encounter a "dry spell" period where the interest in the hobby is so deflated you'd think that's it! Mine lasted for almost 4-5 years, I'm sure Shadow Guard has a similar story and many others too... The answer is simple: take your time. At some point, GW will release something that will give you enough inspiration to return - and then you'll be unstoppable. :tu: BTW, I have not played a real game in a very very long time. My time schedule and age group make it kind of difficult to arrange a game that I would enjoy... But I'm still into the hobby for the painting/collecting, the background the new models and the endless arguments on who/what the Watchers are here in B&C... :tu:

So take it easy, and when you feel like returning, there surely be events to motivate you here... :tu:

Have we any eta on November Vows opening?

I need it. Help me brothers... I can feel the Chosen whispering to me from the DV box... Such horrible, horrible things they whisper. The Emperor Protects, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out!

Well, Shadow Guard can allow anything he wants to allow...I don't recall anything specific being said about the scale of the miniatures to be painted...just that it has to be a legal codex unit...so if it's a rather un-flashy captain (for the purposes of the competition, mind you!), I'd say it looks like a 100 point HQ choice...even if we only get a bust, not a complete figure?
WHAT MODELS CAN YOU ENTER:

You may enter models from any of the following as long as the final completed unit/character/vehicle/terrain/army is Codex Legal

a. Warhammer 40K Dark Angels Codex including all successor chapters. (When the new codex appears your may use the units and characters from that)

b. Forge World Models eligible for dark Angels

c. Battle Fleet Gothic models eligible for dark Angels

d. EPIC 40K/EPIC Armageddon models eligible for Dark Angel

e. Terrain pieces for 40K that have an identifiable Dark Angel affiliation

Looks like a terrain piece to me! :D

Statues can be painted, right?

The honoured sons of the lion continue to forge ahead on their path to redemption despite the turmoil and conflict they had to face each day. A total of 82 battle brothers set out on their journey in September with another 12 joining them in October for a grand total of 94 individual participants so far. Many have remained faithful on the Path to Redemption while others have renewed their faith with multiple oaths of moment. Some have deviated and others have tried to return.

The month of November will be a grtiity test of loyalty as for the first time the sons of Johnson are expected to remain tru to their oaths for three whole months in a sequence. Completion of this month will mark a high tide in their faith and also the mid point of the journey towards redemption.

Will they continue to redeem themselves?

Will others join them on the in own Path to Redemption?

Can those who strayed from their path return to be doubly redeemed?

Let us see if we can do better than the month before. Let us keep the faith in our primarch and our brothers in the legion. Let us surge until the sword is reforged!

As we move ahead with this competition it falls to me to thank everyone for their participation, regardless of whether you completed your oath or not. The ultimate goal is for everyone to try and complete something that you have had left behind for a while or motivate you to start something new. The participation has been absolutely fantastic so far and far greater than had been anticipated... though the Inner Circle does aniticipate much!!!.

Participation Rules Updates and Reminders

Earning your Black Pearl

You must receive a single white pearl for each of the six months by completing your oaths each month in order to be eligible for the Black pearl to be awarded. This means that only those who participated from the beginning and completed their oaths each month will be able to strive for the Black Pearl.

.... but...... there is always a but... or a perhaps....or a may be!

Failed September or October Oaths & the Black Pearl

Those who were unable to keep to their Paths of redemption do still have a chance of earning their Black Pearl. These Unredeemed brethren will have to complete three tasks in order to return to their Path of Redemption:

1. Complete their September, October or Both oaths before the end of November.

2. Complete a separate oath for November, however small by the end of November.

3. Complete a third, small additional task by the end of December. This task will be revealed to you at the end of November once you have completed your September, October or Both oaths as well as your November oaths of moment.

This will earn you the September, October or both White Pearls as may be the case as well as that for November. If you then keep it up for another three months (December, January & February) you will be eligible for the sought after Black Pearl!

Newcomers who begin their oaths in November

Although you will not have been able to earn white pearl for the month of September as you are participating as a newcomer, you may still earn the September & October white pearl and also the much sought after Black Pearl. You will need to complete Four tasks in order to be able to earn this final prize:

1. Complete one oath for September.

1. Complete one oath for October.

2. Complete one oath for November.

If you fail your September, October or November oaths you will not have a second chance similar to those who failed the September oaths.

3. Complete a third, small additional task by the end of December. This task will be revealed to you at the end of November once you have completed your September, October and November oaths of moment.

This will earn you the September, for October and November White Pearls. If you then keep it up for another three months (December, January & February) you will be eligible for the much sought after Black Pearl!

Your banner and medallion awards are available in the

The Chaplains await you for your oaths of moment and your return to the Path of Redemption!

SUMMARY OVERVIEW & ANALYSIS

Path to Redemption Current Status
SEPTEMBER N/A N/A N/A 82 29 (35.3%) 53 (64.6%)
OCTOBER 48 12 04 64 13(20.3%) 51 (79.7%) B)

OVERVIEW: The Path to Redemption which began as a low level attempt at motivating players to complete their unpainted models armies in the wake of the hugely successful ETL 2012 appears to have gathered a momentum of it's own. The Inner Circle has been awed by the spirit of participation and level of enthusiasm so far. The ral test of our spirit lies in whether we can reach the end of the journey and bring along our brothers who are faltering.

A total of 82 battle brothers made oaths of moment and stepped on to their Path to Redemption in September. Amongst these 53, half a company strength completed their oaths achieving what appears to be the highest completion rate of any painting event in this forum of 64.6%. Seven lauded souls amongst them completed more than one oath.

VETERANS: Amongst the 53 who completed their September oaths all but five continued their journey in October (48 battle Brothers). Of the 48 participating veterans 39 managed to remain on their journey and complete their oaths (81.3%). This is a testament to the spirit of this forum and I am very much proud to be part of it. I hope they will continue their journey to the end of times.

NEOPHYTES: These determined brethren were joined by 12 newcomers who not only exhibitd enthusiasm but also skill with the brush. Ten of the 12 completed their oaths for a massive 83.3% completion rate, no doubt inspired by our Veterans.

REDEMPTORS: Those who stray from the path, fail their duty or dishonour their chapter should be despised but not dismissed.... those amongst them who have the strength od spirit to redeem themselves are true Sons of Jonson. A total of 29 battle brothers failed to complete their journey in September (35.3%). Within the ranks of these brothers four returned to redeem themselves in october of whom only one managed to achieve his goal. Sir Tancrede must be accoladed for his return and all that remains for him to be back on the path is to make an oath for November along with which he would need to complete a set task: Paint or complete painting a single unforgiven standard bearer (DW/RW/GW). This is an exception to the Codex Legal requirement of the contest. This may be a part of your November vow (eg, November oath may be a five man command squad one of which is a standard bearer)

THE FUTURE: The future is indeed uncertain and many of you balk at the thought of committing until our nex Codex Dark Angels is released. Be creative and look at your armies. There may be a five man squad that required reinforcing; your terminators who need new bases; Your characters who may need refitting; Perhaps time for that Heavy Weapons squad or Scouts detatchment; How about weathering your armoured vehicles? There is much you can do to elevate the existing quality of your armies without spending a single dollar ion new models. So let the angels gather once more on the path to redemption.

Stand by me ye warriors of penance, one single banner forever be together

Lion in our hearts, his spirit our essence, call out with pride YE ANGELS GATHER!
