Just an update on my new Commander... I am pretty pleased how he is turning out... I still need to tidy the banner but the body is done. Well apart from his head which is why I am posting :)

Red or Bone head :)

I disagree, I think it doesn't really look cohesive except with the white cape, not the bone winged sword chest piece. It also doesn't look like it sits quite right. The red looks better, IMO, and you can pick out the winged sword on the helm in bone or yellow.

Edit: Unless you just really want something different from Cassiel, because he has the same red helm.

It's a bit too much close together white for my eyeballs - cloak, helmet, & banner!!!

Maybe a tanned bone like the chest aquila, or even yellow?

The white would look better with less white around it.

Between the two choices, I would stick with the red helm.

YELLOW HELM! :)

I like the helm not being red, but agree that there's too much white around to use the white one. Try yellow?

edit: suppose there might be a bit much yellow too, bone? green would clash too much I think.

I went with red :) And with that my 3rd Vow is complete for October.

I need to get some Purity Seal to dull down the gloss...

I am pretty proud of this model....

I present

Master of the 3rd – Master of the Fleet

Knight Commander Braden (I have changed some fluff)

Personally I think Black would stand out from the rest of the army while keeping with the fairly 'dark' tones you have used.

The red looks better of the two you have shown. The pale colours form too much of an unbroken mass what with the cloak, banner and helmet.

Looking good though. I've added this blog to my browser favourites! :)

EDIT: Dammit, hadn't scrolled down all the way. That helmet looks the business.

very very nice! prefer the red helmet, both for the style of helmet and colour

well done on the vow

been debating doing red DA successors on and off for years and in the end chickened out and painted flesh tearers instead. i may just look at doing them again :)

Congrats! It looks great.

I still must say, I do like the bone helm (yellow probably would have caused the same problem as white).

Black would've looked good too. I'd love to try a red successor, but I think you took the last good scheme without them looking like Blood Angels.

Can't wait to see what you add to the army next.

Personally I absolutely LOVE the Red helm. It makes the blue eye lenses look piercing, like they're cutting straight through you. If he were my Commander I would be in utter awe every time I saw him. ^_^

Paint job aside (which is great!), I think this model is the most characterful ever released.

Some WIP of a Landspeeder I am painting, I can't finish it till I get a few bits I ordered.

But the basics are done, Need to hi-light the metal and so some decals but apart from that the body is done...

P.S. I HATE the old Landspeeder sprues.

Just noticed the colours look slightly faded not sure why but it looks ok in real life.

Arkley:

I highly approve of the 3rd company master. He turned out great and red was the right call on the helmet.

I feel your pain on the old Land Speeder, but it's good to see you used something (green stuff?) to fill the side gaps. I've had good success with green stuff and 500 grit sand paper on mine. Well done.

Stuck again... I am debating redoning Chapter Symbols white. I'll still keep some yellow, but I have tried painting over the transfer but I dunno if I am happy with it.

So I ask my fellow Unforgiven again.
