Thanks for these close ups mate they look awesome. As gearheat has said love the mixed armour and very dynamic poses. big fan of the chain glaive that thing would dominate. with the guy with the horns i wouldnt worry too much i think it sorta fits. Not every raptor in the cult is going to be deamonically mutated. Maybe he is a new replacement whos only just earned his "wings" and he hasnt devolved into that birdlike state we hear so much about from the black library. Looking good so far brother

Quick Sunday Night update.

Started to work on the Autocannon Havoc Claws.

While the kit the FW kit is beautiful it is a little bit limiting. And not a sunday evening have-a-beer-and-put-havocs together kinda kit. Still they turned out well enough. And I think it will be a nice challenge to try and get different poses out of them.

This guy is almost all MK2 pattern, except his left paldron which is a Night Lords one. He will be the only Complete MK2 trooper in the army.

Horns guy. I'm trying to give the Havocs a heavy/stalwart appearance. Making them heavy looking, like they can take it as much as they can give it out.

The tusk helm from the Havocs fine cast is becoming a favorite I think. I don't like the way that this picture has the model kinda looking up at the sky. It's a bit of a camera issue. (Photos uploaded from Sinners Red's iPhone)

I just noticed a big piece of molding on the mk2 power plant. Gotta fix that one.

So I've finished my first claw of Havocs. Nothing special. But I like they way that they turned out so far.

I took some of the Warp Talon wings and glued them to the underside of some of the barrels. I think it adds a nice chaos touch to things, and something to do with those bits.

nice havocs brother :)

they've got a nice chaosy feel, but i think the guy in the middle (last pic) might look even better with a single horn on his helmet ;)

nice touch with the warp talon bits, thats the second conversion idea for them on my list, after using them as fins for jetbikes.

and now i'm mighty tempted to order me some FW autocannons for christmas. :D

I'm back! I have not forgotten! Not in the least! I was on holiday in Oklahoma (holiday in Oklahoma, what?) with my wife.

I have also signed up for the Librarium Painting Challenge.

I, Sinners Red of the Chaos Ascendant, vow on the honour of the VIII Legion to paint and present at least 10 Chaos Space Marines with Close Combat Weapons on or before the 31st of March, 2013. I promise to provide at least two WIP updates, preferably with pictures, in that time. I vow that if I should fail, I will provide the Librarium with an article and wear the Signature of Shame until my penitence period is done.

I will mark all of my LPC updates in my current WIP thread (linked in my sig.)

That was posted earlier today in the proper spot to get my name on the list and all that jazz. I'll be posting my updates here, marked differently or something so that I can get a the sig badge and what not.

So after a sort hiatus, here are some models.

So. You may have noticed I used a lot of Space Wolves bits. I think I've come up with a way to make my painting more exciting for myself. In an effort to make things fun for myself as well as push my skills, I'll be using multiple color schemes with a few constant colors (Midnight Blue, a bloody red, etc etc). Explanation? Mercenaries. Or roughly that. A core group of night lords with 2 Raptor Cults and a 'Havoc Pack'. I think it'll be fun. Let me know if you would like to know more.

I also really need to fix the feederbelt on the Havoc with the mohawk. While the autocannons are a welcome blessing, they are a B(*$^ to work with and try to get some unique poses with.

Also some other pictures and stuff.

My first set of brushes from my wife. Hope to get these used by the first of February.

A lot of sprues.

And my haul from a comic book store in Oklahoma.

So where to next?

Finish these last 5 havocs. And then its on to regular CSMs. Thank khorne. Some simple things.

Gotta order some new bits from the interwebs. I misjudged my original purchase/want more bits.

And in parting, the Warband of Dios Estero, the Sinners Brood. (so far)

It took me a second to figure out where the guy in the center's autocannon ends- looked like a massive hose. Anyway, liking your work so far.

not sure about your space wolves mercenaries, too much non desecrated iconography and heraldry for my liking.

i got myself a set off ebay and they're crooked like hell and i think i'll swear alot when putting them on a marine msn-wink.gif

I'm going to have to agree with you on the SW Mercs, they are still a little too none chaos-y. I'm going to have to go back and scratch some stuff out before priming.

Have to agree with Wicced, they still look too loyalist for my liking.

The autocannons do look good but they're still a bit expensive for my taste. I'd rather convert some from assault cannons and heavy bolters.

That was my origin plan, but as soon as I ordered the bitz FW went and released the models, and I just had to get them. I did how ever end up using some of the autocann ammo drums for my next batch of Havocs

http://i1338.photobucket.com/albums/o699/patrick_murray1/179CEC71-FA7C-498C-8272-FFBE69D54572-6341-0000053099C226ED.jpg

So that wraps up all of the Havocs. I'm glad that it's done. I'm over all pleased with how they have turned out. The SW Mercs need a little more touching up (scratching etc), but that's a ways down the road.

I would also like to take this time and thank you all for your input, it has been very constructive and encouraging. Thank you.

It seems that work is really taking it out of me and I can't get my two updates a week in, so I'll be trying to update once a week.

Now for my first LPC update! Very excited about these guys.
10 CSM with CCW and x2 Melta.

This wasn't very intentional but most of the models use regular SM helms. The armor is a complete mismatch and I don't honestly think it will look too good until they are painted. But this I think goes along with attitude of the squad. That is, a squad that has been on the front lines of ever battle the company has been in. This means that the armor has been replaced constantly and there is no rhyme or reason to why a Marine is wearing what he is other than he needed it, and he took it.

I used Khorne Berzerker legs and pistols. I hate when an assault squad has a static look to it. The Champion (home boy in the Mk 4), I like to think he's a little set in the old ways of the legion, maybe he was a captain at one point and the other 9 marines are all he has left? And maybe he's a little too stubborn to let go of his fancy helm.

It's been a hot minute, but I finally have some new updates.

I've been side tracked with work, and fixing my motorcycle, after it took a spill.

But without further ado,

My first painted model

This is the first model I've painted in nearly 5 years. Sorry for the bad lighting.

I've gotten 6/10 of my bikers and still need to order the remaining 4. I have roughly 19 more models to assemble. EDIT, I also have to get my aegis siege line too.

I need to get painting for the LBC, so I hope that my first ten models are done by next friday.

Nice stuff.

About painting: lighting ok, though on the first pic marine is a bit off focus.

Painting feels inaccurate - but that's fine, 5 years is a looong time. Try to improve this guy, so that the paint will lay smoother. And also he needs highlighting. And lightnings :)

Thanks for the input.

You're right he does need lightning. But I neglected to order white paint with the rest of my paints... Hopefully I'll make a trip to the shop tomorrow and pick some up.

I'm not too sure how I feel about highlighting though. Well actually I love highlighting on models, but my skills as a highlighter are what I am unsure of. I feel like it's a less is more kinda thing, but I always use way too much.

Once again thanks for the input.

Highlighting is not so difficult to paint - anyways, you can always correct lines with the base color to make it look thiner.

Also about lightnings - you may use any bright color for them, not just white. In fact, light blue works even better than white :)

In any case I'm waiting for the next update to see your work!

Okay, so, I tried a little bit of highlighting and worked in some lightning and this is what I got. I also went and touched up a few areas etc.

The lightning on the shoulder bad looks pretty bad IMO, so I'll be doing that over again, but I think it came out pretty well on the boot. What does everyone else think?

In addition I have painted a second model. The paint went on a good deal smoother (probably because I wasn't drinking while painting. He also has the bat wings.

Note, I need to figure out how to take some better pictures with the iphone.

He needs a little touching up, and probably some highlights. and the lightnings.

Anyways, thanks for following, and your input.

Yep, with highlighting he looks better. Now it's only a matter of practice and desire :)

About the second one - can't say much, but gold on the vents still look dirty. Also my second thought - wouldn't chains on his arm and hoses on his face mask look better steel-painted?

But still, nice work!

First off, thank you for your service, I am glad you are back in the states safe and sound!  The Night Lords are looking great, I love the Havocs and the Raptors, very characterful use of bits and subtle Night Lord conversions.

What is that limited edition Chaos book you showed in the very first pictures you posted?  I'm curious as I have never seen it before.

Hey guys long time no update.

I failed my LPC vow and my sig now reflects.

I had planned to finish in March, but life got the better of me. O well, heres to the next one I suppose.

I was able to paint 4 out of my ten models. It's a little more time consuming that I believed. The models have turned out better than I had hoped though.

As far as my modeling goes.

I have 6 raven wing bikers to build and convert, order 4 chaos bikers, aegis siege line, and assemble about 14 more bolter CSMs. No time line on when thats going to be done though.

Thanks for your kind words and that is the Limited Edition 6th ed Chaos Codex. They only printed 1000 apparently. Seems to be a new GW money making scheme, but I think it's pretty cool.

Love this project and was hoping to see more!

I often go back and forth on the concept of the batheads. The efffect pleases me sometimes, and kind of turns me off sometimes. The idea is cool and I often think of doing the whole army like that, but I think it might look too goofy?  I like how you've sprinkled them in the army. What do you think of them?

P.S. Great work so far... keep going!
