Thats a really brilliant piece you have made, great work. Im still so amazed by the sword.

thanks

If Im honest Im surprised it came out as good as it did given that I sprayed it free hand with a bit of card!

Ive also just realised I havent painted the sword end (pommel?)

Im about so start on my vanguard vets.

Ive now spent two evenings scraping and sanding and filling!

IVe previously been asked how I do my bases so before I spray them I thought Id share these

There are still more mold lines to remove on the arms and the heads and jump packs are just placeholders for the proper ones.

Is it wise to wear a skirt and a jump pack?

I thought Id do this one to tie in with my other vets

@barry_hhh

I start with a base of foundation tallarn flesh

I then wash with one of the old citadel flesh inks (Its a copy from one of the small companies that knock copies of old inks out)

I then highlight with various mixes of tallarn flesh and elf flesh and white

For the eyes I paint them grey, give them a wash with agrax earthshade then paint the pupil with very dark grey (not black)

I then wash the face with a very dilute leviathan purple and lahmian medium. It gives it some colour. If you can see the purple then its too strong.

Ive run out of primer so Im going to fetch some tomorrow

In the meantime Ive worked on the bases by giving them a prime of chaos black

Ive decided to save the vets for the ETL (Hopefully the bases wont count) so in the meantime Ive started work on one of my Nid Vets

Im having trouble getting a decent photo but here are a couple of where I am.

It still needs highlighting and weathering but you get the idea

Ive also taken the "Bolter and Chainsword theme and included the colours on the knee pad. (which ironically looks like an easter egg!)

ETL Update

Ive now vowed to get my 5 man (+1 as one was already started) squad + a land raider achilles done for the ETL.

So Ive started on the squad

Heres the first update. The jump packs will get a highlight tonight

The sergeants jump pack was great to paint. The eagle is really well molded

The other 3 are underway too

Quick update as Ive just managed to brush on a wash of very thin drakenhof nightshade

(and whats worse is my wife caught me drying it with her hair dryer......)

Its interesting how my shading has become more extreme using the air brush now than it was a year ago as you can see against my redeemer

A quick update for ETL progress

Ive started to detail an weather the LR

Ive a chunk of clean up to do on the sponsons as the tank was an ebay purchase / strip job and the previous owner liked glue. consequently thereis a small gap on the left which I should have filled before painting but didnt for some unknown reason.

Im happy with how the GS U came out though

Heres with flash

What with the other vets that I have to finish my desk is a sea of blue at the moment

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f372/rbrewster101/IMG_1814_zps6922fd7d.jpg

Ive been working on the Vets and Achilles but like always I got slightly distracted.

I thought Id put a jump pack chaplain together to go with my squad of 5 vets

What do you think to this one?

Also which jump pack.

I like the first as its smaller and makes it different but then I like the 2nd one too as its in line with the squad and chunky...... arrrgh!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the comments

@RedFred, Ive been following your thread too and the marines are really coming on nicely so thanks for the comment

Ive primed him now in Halfords grey. The jumppack went a bit gritty as it was cooling down outside but I can smooth it out with sanding.

I think painting it has brought it all together. I have also made a Crozius but I cant work out where to attach it and make it look good.

Lol someone else who uses halfords grey too lol

Lol someone else who uses halfords grey too lol

And isnt it great?

I made a trip to town to get some GW black primer which I always use but they were shut (dont get me started on our store opening times.....)

So to keep my project moving I went to halfords and had the choice of grey, white or red primers (red looks great for all you BA players)

Its slightly cheaper than the GW version, in a bigger can and drys much quicker and in my opinion leaves a nicer matt working surface.

Im converted....

I still use the black primer for my crimson fists but for my scythes the grey is perfect, I paint all the areas that need to be black vallejo model black and because of the grey undercoat it really helps my black highlighting.

I also find the halfords primer last a lot longer too in terms of useage.
