Ultramarines 1st Company project

Ive just had a go at tiying my work space so while I was at it I thought Id get the 1st company together.

There are about 10 still with gold trims but these need re-blending and making white as I did them about 3 years ago and my style and technique have really changed.

This doesnt include the vets on the bench or any unpainted stuff (there is a lot) except my fellblade

Heres the shelf version.

No room for the fellblade, old 2nd co squad or the dreads!

A quick update just to show Im still working on my ETL vow

Ive also tried a couple of new techniques on the jump pack jets (although the middle one needs a tidy)

Thanks guys

The black is pretty simple

Following the rule of black isnt black at all I hit it with a coat of pure chaos black then a mix 80/20 of black and Kantor blue from above

Washed it all in Badab black

Then started to highlight with various mixes of black/shadow grey

For the edge I used black/shadow grey/skull white

Ive done the helmet and now need to find the time to complete the body

As usual, your First Company looks awesome! happy.png Are you just getting the First, or are you going to start another one? smile.png

Thanks for the comments

Im not sure. Im toying with a set of PDF from Ultramar

I've also got a Valkyrie to paint at some point

Im rolling around the idea of doing an armies on parade using a snow scene and a joint line of both 1st company and PDF dug in and defending against a host of Nids.

The problem is given the speed I paint I'll probably finish it for 2015 sad.png

If not that then this

and if not this then raven gard.

The problem is Im not too keen on painting all that black

Thanks Guys

Ill probably move to the guard next but tie it into the ultras as PDF

Well Ive nearly finished 3 of my Vow 1 minis!!

Theres still the scroll work and some highlighting but at least they have arms and heads now!

Ive also treated myself this weekend to this. It comes at the end of the week so I'll knock up a review with a few pics when it comes

Hopefully it will let me take my detail up a level

Ive now got the lamp and its really good although using the magnifier is a pain as you bang the back of the brushes on the lenses when painting. I need shorter brushes!

The lights fantastic though and the thing I like the best is that it doesnt generate heat like the old 100w bulb did.

Another side effect is that if you take pictures through the magnifier they come out pretty well

Im trying really hard to finish these but I spent an hour just on the axe on this one. I didnt think he would turn out that well but Im happy with it

I also managed to get the mag locked helmet done on this one

I thought this would be a good leader for my Nid hunter squad in the 1st company

Burias-Drak'shal

sorry for the delay. I think Ive detailed it earlier in the thread. Basically its browns washed with black/brown and shaded up through various brown/white/bleached bone mixes.

Next time I do one I'll photo it

Thanks for the likes guys

Just so this guy will fit in with my nid vets I thought Id try and make the shield fit the squad

So with a bit of GS and an IG knife I present.....

It seems churlish to pick holes in work as good as this, but shouldn't this guy have a white helmet stripe?

Dont worry. I dont play any more and just paint for fun so you will find non fluff stuff and weapon load outs all over this thread. Any advice is greatly appreciated

The heads not fixed (you can see the blutac under the neck) so Im planning to take it off and paint laurels on the side (see the Sargent I did early on in this thread) I think that also counts doesnt it?

Glad to see you back to painting, Rich.

I can't say much that everyone else hasn't already. Gorgeous, breath taking, unfairly pretty, all fit the bill quite nicely ^_^

I'll have to try that "taking a pic thru the magnifier" trick. I have one of those ringy daylights myself.
