WarriorFish, you really are a treadhead, aren't you?? :D

Next up will be finishing some infantry units... Then the valk/vend I plan to get for Christmas. I do need to redo the vision blocks of my other armour to be the same as this Chimera's, and redo their weathering to match...

New armour will come with the new codex: so hopefully around March/April. And that'll probably be artillery...

Anyway, thanks for the comments! :)

A treadhead and dreadnut through and through, give me armour and I shall give you victory! :D

I think our blessed artillery will be fine, though I can't say the same for GW if they dare to not give me Griffon models... There's plenty to be keeping busy with until then even if Kier seems to be churning them out at good speed :) I'm eager to see the flyer all painted up!

I'm eager to get it!

I've alright thought about how to use the spare pilot heads (assuming I do replace them with beard/mustache ones): one on the full body you get in the IG Tank Accessories kit, hands modelled on his hips in a "Ah, :cuss:" pose, perhaps a pistol held loosely in one hand: perfect for a downed-pilot objective marker.

This will be my final update for 2013. I'll be back -hopefully with a load of new plastic (including something flyer-shaped and Primaris Psyker shaped) added to the current pile of plastic and metal awaiting building - in 2014.

I'll leave you with some images of current WIPs:

First up three of my rough riders.

The sergeant hasn't been changed much since I last posted him, except for moving the end of the lance's power cable from the pommel (why would it wrap all the way around the lance only to go back into the handle?) to a power-pack at his thigh.

med_gallery_63428_8145_417007.jpg

med_gallery_63428_8145_1477639.jpg

A melta-gunner.

med_gallery_63428_8145_1464684.jpg

And the second melta-gunner. I'm particular pleased with his pose, though the back of his waist needs some filling with GS.

med_gallery_63428_8145_279154.jpg

med_gallery_63428_8145_1000133.jpg

The final two are as-yet unbuilt though one will be playing polo with a severed head, and I figure the fifth had better be made with a lance lest I forget the squad has them!

Next up is a little side-project I've had on the go for months: a wound counter for a Primaris Psyker (or an Inquisitor, for that matter). A biblio-servitor? His arms are purposefully positioned in that no doubt agonising fashion. The rack will be adorned with all manner of clutter and paraphernalia. Pipes will be added, snaking about him and the rack. There'll be a candle atop the servo-skull, and a parchment from the bottom of the doodad attached to his chest. Skin will be pale and sickly. Still very WIP

med_gallery_63428_8145_48622.jpg

Plasma command squad. Parts cleaned up, just need their breast plates GSing and then everything putting together.

- No photo as they're just a pile of bitz with mold line removed at the moment.

Aaand finally a little something I put together this week from a leftover Cadian and a pack of push-fits: a Special Weapons Squad comprising three spotter/sniper pairs, the latter armed with longlas rifles. Sharpshooters will have smartlink cables from their helmets to their scopes (guitar wire). Some GS work and holes to fill here and there.

med_gallery_63428_8145_183717.jpg

The first shooter was made from the spare Infantry Squad Cadian. The only way I could actually get one in a shooting pose. Pardon the cack-handed supergluing!

med_gallery_63428_8145_718277.jpg

med_gallery_63428_8145_397241.jpg

Second shooter. All but the head is from a pushfit. I always liked these heads (from the chimera kit) and wanted to make some snipers with them.

med_gallery_63428_8145_718760.jpg

Third shooter. Reloading. All but the head and left arm are from a pushfit. Head and left arm from a heavy weapons team if I remember correctly. Didn't have a third of the heads I used on the first two so I used this one with the visor and will paint it up glowing green...or perhaps red like the chimera's vision blocks. The scope lenses might look nice that that too. If When I get a third chimera I may replace this head with one to match the other sharpshooters.

med_gallery_63428_8145_651919.jpg

med_gallery_63428_8145_815741.jpg

Spotter one. Heavily modified from a pushfit (the one with his mouth open...not exactly suitable for a sniper team). Left arm and binocs from a HWS (or tank sprue?), head from an infantry squad, legs severely chopped up and repositioned. Will be GSing him soon, along with the GS work on the riders and plasma command squad all together. Basing will also be build up to support his kneeling stance.

med_gallery_63428_8145_409127.jpgmed_gallery_63428_8145_338414.jpg

Spotter two. Binocs from SM scout sniper box. Main guard from a pushfit with head replaced and a right arm from a HWS. Will be based as if he's stepping over some rubble. Chest hole obviously needs GS! Note his binocs are not attached to the helmet at the front, only via the cable-arm at the right side.

med_gallery_63428_8145_63094.jpg

med_gallery_63428_8145_280612.jpg

Spotter three. Left arm from a chimera kit. I figure this boy's the squad leader, signalling for a halt after Spotter Two found an enemy, which Shooter One is proceeding to aim at. This pushfit had the least done to him, I guess, though removing the left arm is a bit of a pain...though in this squad I had plenty of practice doing such an operation. Oh, the left arm didn't have a shoulder pad so he got one from the chimera kit, which has a skull on it: a nice bit of decoration even more befitting a squad leader.

med_gallery_63428_8145_203195.jpg

med_gallery_63428_8145_173020.jpg

Made them more as an experiment to see what more I could do with pushfits and bits rather than any actual plan to use them.

Might see what I can do with some pushfits and spare heavy weapons in the future...I do have some missile launchers without crew...though a demolitions SWS with the three with demo charges done as penitents is also tempting... Anyway, those are 'back burner' projects.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

A happy new year from Japan!

I had a wonderful time back in Blighty for Christmas, and picked up a fair few models - both bought with my own money (cheaper than they'd be in Japan) and via Santa.

Started work on the Valkyrie/vendetta which, with thanks to my father, should turn out quite special indeed. I'll explain more via photos when I get chance to post some.

Hope everyone else had an excellent Christmas and has a wonderful new year! :)

Just a quick update.

Nothing worth photographing yet. My son's not yet over his jetlag (that or he's gotten used to staying up late and likes it!) so I have no modelling time at home. A few of my current projects require GS work (sniper SWS, rough riders and plasma command squad) which I can only do at home (I could try it at work but the chances of being distracted/needed during my lunch and having to rush it are too off-putting). Hence I'm working on a project that doesn't need GS: my Psyker Battle Squad. I have eight of the psykers done and should have the ninth and final member done tomorrow or Saturday. Then I need to convert the Mordheim road warden into their custodian...and they'll be ready for painting.

The Valk/Vend...when I do have time for it, will have a total of eight LEDs in it. Typical port/starboard red & green, a blue targeter on the port side of the cockpit, a red inside the fuselage behind the door gunners, a green in front of the pilot, a red in front of the weapons officer and dorsal/ventral extremely bright white flashing anti-collision lights. The circuit was made with the help of my father but needs a bit of repair work due to the flight back to Japan. And I do not have time for soldering and the like right now.

Actually right now I'm squeezed into a Tokyo train on my way home. Someone suicided themself at another station so all trains are delayed. I am reminded how sardines feel.

Lots of plans, sounds like we're in for some good stuff soon :)

As for the trains... being a regular victim of Network Fail and friends (January price hike for improvements nobody sees again) I can only say I feel your pain! Still, you've got the bullet train out there right? Sometimes I have dreams about the "fast" train being more than a relative term!

Got more progress done on both the sniper SWS and PSB. Planning to complete both units by the end of March.

SWS have been based and undercoated. Got something to say about their basing materials but I'll post that once I have photos of them to show.

PSB psykers are completed but I think I'll add some more details. Have added a servo skull wrapped around the staff of one and it turned out quite well, so might add similar embellishments to fluff up the rest of the squad.

I finished converting their overseer today, from a Mordheim Road Warden. Had to cut off and rotate his left hand at the wrist, and bend the once-pointing finger round as if it's resting on the trigger of his pistol. Added a skull trinket as a good luck charm (no doubt there's a story behind that). Removed the Empire symbols from the head of his hammer and added Aquilas there and to the thigh armour. I'm rather keen on how his pose came out.

Am thinking about painting up his plate as dark green (as per the armour of my veterans) as opposed to bare metal, and might add some light OSL to the helmet visor/grill.

Nice, I was wondering what you'd do for the Overseer. He's a good opportunity to do something a bit different for more regular armies never mind yours! I can't wait to see them all painted up :biggrin.:

If only I wasn't caught up in so much this week, I keep reading hobby topics like this that make me want to get back to my desk but I can only snatch brief moments here and there :sad.:

Thanks, WarriorFish, Walter H.

Actually I'm divided on how I'm going to base the PBS.

1. At first I thought to base them on the same bare earth as most of the rest of the army, adding high grass angled out from the center of each of the Psyker's bases.

2. Or similarly on dirt bases and use Agrellan Earth to make it seem cracked just under their feet. Hard to get it to look right though.

3. Urban ruin bases, with frost forming on the paving stones and ruins as an after effect of their psychic aura.

4. Urban ruin bases, with candles as if the unit are performing some kind of psychic ritual (if I use them as the Apoc formation this suits them even better).

Thoughts? :(

I did spy your frost topic in the PCA but unfortunately I have no idea how that could be done. Maybe snow effect painted a bit blue? It might be too much to get looking right on the relatively small base area available.

Agrellan Earth seems pretty good to me from what I've seen, but the lack of control doesn't lend it to this. Short of painting and removing it if it doesn't come up right but that seems labour intensive and wasteful.

So I'd go for either 1 or 4; using the same basing methods across an army is a given but a bit of fancy pants to make them stand out/be more united as a specialist unit is no bad thing :)

That is indeed the problem. Tie them in with the rest of the army, but give them something a little different.

I might try flagstones and ruins, and have the flagstones cracked where the psykers have walked across them.

Yes, that's an idea.
Another part of me is starting to say "Keep it simple. You've got a Primaris to do after this and we don't want him upstaged by the choir, now do we?"

Here are the completed Psyker Battle Squad models, anyway. Hope to undercoat them this weekend, weather permitting. Bases can be done afterwards once decided upon. All have a section of their collars ready to be painted up as a light (probably a bomb in their collars like those implanted into the spines of my beastmen penitents).

I'm finding mottos for a lot of my units and am thinking of "Vis Unita Fortior" (~United strength is stronger) for the Psyker Battle Squad, them working as a unit and all.

1. One of the PSB I particularly like. Doesn't look as crazy as some of his colleagues. Looking forward to putting some Adeptus Astra Telepathica insignia on his shoulder-covering.

gallery_63428_8145_28190.jpggallery_63428_8145_24324.jpg

2. Where the first guy looked reasonably sane, this one is the other end of the spectrum. Probably the overseer has this one in his sights on a regular basis.

gallery_63428_8145_39796.jpg

3. Not a shrubbery! A ball of warpfire.

gallery_63428_8145_23682.jpggallery_63428_8145_21422.jpg

4. Either an Adeptus Astra Telepathica icon or `End is Nigh` style ravings on this one's parchment. Thoughts?

gallery_63428_8145_23133.jpg

5. Another one toward the `raving loony` end of the squad spectrum.

gallery_63428_8145_28858.jpg

6. The one with the snazziest pole. And, it seems, an axe gifted from the Squat refugees on Kierdale's World.

gallery_63428_8145_23237.jpg

7. Playing whack the pinata alien skull.

med_gallery_63428_8145_57465.jpg

8. Another of the saner ones. I like this guy too. Gave him a different las pistol. There are about three different las pistol designs in the squad.

med_gallery_63428_8145_41250.jpgmed_gallery_63428_8145_41867.jpg

9. Started out not liking this guy's pose much (had his scythe held horizontally) but changed it to vertical and added a servo skull slithering up it, holding a scroll and now I rather like him.

gallery_63428_8145_12850.jpgmed_gallery_63428_8145_5020.jpg

10. And for completeness, the Overseer again. Gave him a canteen and a powerpack reload on his back.

med_gallery_63428_8145_20065.jpg

Aaaaand am basecoating the sniper SWS at work. :smile.:

How about their feet not touching the ground? You could use small flying bases, like the Tau, use for their drones, only chopped down 3/8th's glued to the base. Those stands are clear,so the psychers would appear to walk on air. You could then use a mirror effect beneath them as if the power was turning the ground to glass.

Walter H, it looks like I ninja'd you with a full update ;)

From the pose of the PBS models I don't think levitating would work...thought it might for the Primaris Psyker (built from an Empire Battle Wizard). The way his robes are billowing at the bottom...that might work.

Yes. Here's hoping they don't stand out too much. #cough#bulletmagnet#cough#

I've settled on basic bases for the PBS, but will give some of the members OSL psychic effects (eyes, palms of the 'casting' hands, etc).

The Primaris Psyker and his biblioservitor (whose name will be Cumdach) will get a fancier one instead. Privileges of rank and all that.

Hmm, I need a name for my Overseer. The Custodian of the beastmen homosapiens variantus penitents was named father William because he leads beastmen (Billy Goats Gruff => Billy => Bill => Will => William).

Oh, and father William's superior is on the way...
