WarriorFish
I did wonder why the weather has been a bit bad for a while... thanks for that Kier ;) I hope you had a good time (and roast dinners?), good luck for the competition :tu:
Father Mehman
Glad you're back in one piece. Or very tiny pieces due to jet lag. Keep us posted on the competition!
Kierdale
We had a very good time, thanks! Plenty of roast dinners (no gammon in Japan so I always appreciate it when I get back to Blighty). Fish and chips three times (I don't think I want to eat it again for another ten years now, to be honest) and plenty of biscuits and Mr. Kipling's cakes. I did find one good photo of the rival Ad Mech entry: Rather nice! I like the dirty, swampiness. I don't mind losing to those.
WarriorFish
Gammon is good, but surely roast beef too? :P They look good, so at least the winner will deserve it :)

Kierdale
With 56% of the votes (talk about close!) I won the GW Jimboucho's Codex: Skitari painting comp (at the time I entered my Enginseer the codex hadn't come out so we didn't know the particular unit wouldn't be it in...) https://www.facebook.com/GW.Jinbocho/posts/813150248762832 I'll add that to my Codex: Astra Militarum and Codex: Orks wins! And I've entered the Liber Challenge: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/307752-liber-challenge-iii-imperial-guardtraitor-guardcults/?p=4047602 I thought it time to give an expeditionary force of the Shrineworld garrison a proper writeup (especially since I'm not vowing for the Guard in the ETL. Father Mehman
I was about to PM you about the Liber Challenge, mate. It would be brilliant to have your stuff in the Liber ! It's already so detailed and cool that I might have stolen a few of your ideas. Congrats on the win, as well! I thought there'd be a bigger margin since, you know, LED and all. I'm going to say this: the voters that picked you had great taste. The others? Eh. Kierdale 1 Back to top
WarriorFish
Well done Kier! Another great win :D I wonder what the next competition will be? Hopefully something suitable for a Guard model or two ;) Kierdale 1 Back to top
Kierdale
Thanks! GW Jimboucho (or Warhammer Jimboucho as its called now. Both GW changed over last week) bases their competitions on the newest codexes, so the next one is 'Knights and Ad Mech'...nothing I can put in there. I'm rather hoping IG don't get a new codex any time soon as I'm still yet to use the current one! Warhammer Harajuku, now it's open, should be having their Summer Painting Comp soon, into which I'll put my Pask Punisher :tu:
WarriorFish
Pask will do well I'm sure :) With the rumour of a new SM codex I'm even more hopeful we've got a wait before the next Guard one!
Kierdale
I popped into Warhammer Harajuku just now to pick up some Daemonettes or Ungors. The first for my Psychopomps, the second for more conscripts...and because, with rumours of beastmen being no more in the new Warhammer Fantasy, I wanted to get some while I could... Well, it turned out that Ungors, minotaurs and I think it was centigors are all out of stock. The staff agreed it was suspicious. Anyway, I bought some Gors (as it was them or Bestigors and the latter would be hell to pose with lasguns). So, my conscript squad will meet its minimum of 20 models in the future. :tu: Further expansion...I may have to add some human penitents into the herd (Flagellants, etc). Truly disappointing if the Ungors are gone. The staff said he hasn't had them in stock for a long time...
WarriorFish
GW moves in mysterious ways... 20 is a good number though :)
Kierdale
Aaaaand the Ungors are back in stock! :D (I haven't checked the other Beastmen items that were out of stock at the weekend yet) I ordered a box so conscripts 11-20 will be Ungors and that means the Gors get to be Slaangor cultists. Far more fitting in both cases, I think. Anyway, back to working on Catachans on a beach (them, not me). SW1
Hmmm ... Beastmen guard troops, that's a bit of a blast from the past. I'm liking the sound of this. ;) Edited May 28, 2015 by SW1 walter h and Kierdale 2 Back to top
Kierdale
I picked up my order of Ungors yesterday, which will give me conscripts 11-20...and ordered another box for 21-30. 30 should be quite enough! As I don't have enough spare lasguns for all I intend to take inspiration from WW2 Sov forces and model some with lasguns and some with hand weapons and just power packs, putting the latter toward the rear of the squad and replacing them with lasgun holders as the front ones get mown down. :) And I'm tempted to do a bit of repainting/remodelling on the first two squads I ever made for the army: the two veteran squads. I won't go into details now, but they'll look more like Kierdale's Worlders afterwards. walter h and WarriorFish 2 Back to top
Kierdale
While I have 20 ungors to make as conscripts, after having just made 20 Slaangor I'm in no mood for more hairy mutants, so I started putting together something else... Kierdale
So, I plan to make the Wyvern/Hydra I bought a while back. But I plan to build it so the Wyvern/Hydra bits can be (of course interchangeable and) removed and I can slot in (scratchbuilt) parts to convert the Chimera chassis into a Salamander scout vehicle (and perhaps more) as I like. For what it's worth I'll log my progress (not sure it could be called a tutorial). First up, I put the track sections together and glued one to the cab and floor. I kept the other off for easy of dry fitting as this was all made up as I went along :) At this point you've got the base for all Chimera-chassis vehicles. The Wyvern/Hydra turret joint plate fits under that rim on the inside of the track sections. As I want to be able to remove this plate easily I trimmed this back to where the rim touches the vertical of that plate. I then realised that, wanting to remove the turret joint plate (and the plate which 'caps' the Chimera cabin section) I would be putting it in from the top, so that small wheel on the inside of the track section had to go too, and I trimmed that earlier rim all the way back to the rear of the cabin. To form the bit of armour which goes in front of the autocannon mount in the Salamander I intend to use the Mysterious Plate. But I won't be gluing it in as it would get in the way of the Wyvern top piece and I'll simply make it part of the Salamander slot-in bit. This as-yet not built Salamander slot-in bit will comprise: Mysterious Plate Front armour plate Heavy weapon team autocannon (likely mounted on something more solid than the stock tripod) Vox set Two crew: one gunner one spotter (converted from HWT guardsmen to be Kierdale's Worlders) Supplies ...and what else do they need? Thoughts? Plenty of stowage on the sides of the track sections, of course. I may make the autocannon removable and replaceable with a heavy flamer/heavy bolter so it can also be a Salamander command vehicle. Since I'm doing all this work I may as well go that extra step. In that case the spotter had best be removable so I can (in the future) put an officer in there too... Stormborn
Salamanders are awesome always wanted to get some as are my favourite forgeworld kit shame they stopped making them, I been looking at FW Vanaheim Pattern Griffon kit for a while now thinking shall I buy it and see what I can do with it. will be following your progress with interest. hendrik
how about mountign the weapons mount on the mysterious plate itself, and using a magnetic base for the salamander platform. that way you can add any stowage/crew/whatever, incl guns by simply putting magnets in the bottom of the crates/feet/whatever? walter h 1 Back to top

Kierdale
Thanks. Not much to tell at the moment. I got the chassis adjusted so that I'll be able to slot in different rears, then continued with the Hydra/Wyvern construction. A couple of things: As the Hydra has a plate which caps the Chimera cabin I'll need to take a press-mould of the driver's vision block bit and GS a new one to go on the Chimera cabin (since the one in the kit will be glued onto the Hydra plate). No big issue. Simply having the Hydra plate rest stop the Chimera cabin is alright but there's a bit of a gap ocassionally so I'm going to put a magnet in the underside of the Hydra plate and inside the Chimera cabin. That should hold them together snuggly. And yes, Hendrik, my plan is to have all the bitz that make up the Salamander slot-in stuck together, with one mysterious plate on each of the three sides as the walls and general anchor. Good idea on mounting the weapon on the inside of the mysterious plate. GW tells me my HWT is enroute :tu: WarriorFish 1 Back to top
Kierdale
The Hydra/Wyvern parts are all built and undercoated Deathworld Forest...or actually sprayed "Tamiya TS-28 Olive Green 2". Thanks to Elmo for the suggestion. It's extremely close While waiting for the HWT to arrive I got started on my vow for Regiments of the B&C: Heroes of the Guard: HERE I finished making a squat sniper I started a long time ago: And got a fair bit of painting done today! Firstly I sprayed him along with the Hydra/Wyvern... And then got painting... He's far from finished as he still needs... the red flak jacket layering, highlighting and shading yellow trim/piping on jacket and sleeves blue vertical stripe on helmet eyes kill markings on rifle base scope lenses beige gloves ...Oldies may notice he's being done in the colours of a squat army in Rogue Trader Compilation artwork And I see in that last photo that some green got on the back of the left bipod leg! librisrouge, elmo and WarriorFish 3 Back to top
