Really easy heat stained barrels

Recommended Posts

Recently I started using a new style of painting heat staining on barrels. The method I use is really easy, consisting of only three steps.

Here are some examples:

You can find the tutorial on my blog by following this link.

Hope this is useful!

Been doing that to my Marines weapons for a while now!!

Does bring out the model more!!

I do mine by drybrushing regal blue, then Liche purple 2 thirds up the blue then Brazen brass on the very end of the barrels. Copied the effect off of my motorbike exhaust system!!

I used to do something similar, though I went for a more burnt effect over the heat-stained metal.

I used fleshwash or brown ink (Now Devlan mud.. or whatever the newer paint equivalent is) and then carefully drybrush black on the very tip of the weapon/exhaust as I find it gives a look more like carbon build-up, where as for energy based weapons, like the melta, plasma or lascannon, the original posters tutorial is bang on.
