Aye, but they also more or less share a trait: they love to pick on weaker prey, which seems to have roots on Pre-Heresy and Heresy use of Assault Marines (attack key points or rip heavy weapons squads to pieces)

That's actually how Assault Marines were always described in the fluff.

Which makes sense, since they are lightly armed and geared for quick and close action.

And a Legion Tartaros bundle.

Especially since the Heresy-era Assaualt Marines are supposed to be the basis for the Chaos Raptor. Who still does the exact same thing.

Coooome on Ultramarines, papa needs some unit upgrades or contemptors... But really, 2 different sets of destroyers the only diference being the jump pack, couldnt they just have included the JP in one pack?

I suspect it's down to people asking for them to include jump packs. I know the 10 destroyers I've bought (the last 5 only at the start of this week!) I've sourced my own jump packs, using sanguinary guard versions I had left over or got from bitz sellers). So this new set would have saved me some money.

Yep. There's about a £1difference in between Jump Pack and No Jump Pack. I believe someone said they bought Jump Packs from a different company, right? I'm willing to bet that five Destroyers plus five Jump Packs did not cost £33. So Forgeworld is actually going cheap on that front.

I used the plastic jump packs from the Sanguinary Guard set for my destroyers. So yeah, I could've saved a bit by waiting. But there was no hint they were going to release a JP set.

The other difference seems to be that a couple of the torsos are studded, but the rest of the set looks to be the same.

It's part of being undeniably good at what you do and seemingly happy with how you live. It's inevitable, and I like it when the same treatment is given to Ultramarines in-universe, it adds to the realism and is another example of how even Space Marines help with the Imperium's autophagic effort in the face of eradication.

I wonder, by the way, what special units Ultramarines will have. Likely a veteran or command squad. Looking at the invasion of Calth, their commanders were crucial in picking up survivors and turning them into a countering force. Though, as ever, I'm sure FW will come up with something less evident.

I have never liked the idea of battle/campaign- specific veterans. I want something like rules for the 4 tetrarchs (I know they are not known to be a legion of combat champions, but with ~250,000 troops theyre bound to have a few monsters-- a la Orpheo from Betrayer? The guy who fought Khârn) and its an excuse to release more cool models. But yeah, I think I like the idea of characters that add bonuses to units, such as leadership (maybe bestowing a veteran ability or something?) much more than I like wholesale units that fill niches within an army.
