I like them. I think I shared this topic on my time line over on fb when I wasn't able to login to my account. I too have started a Blood Ravens army, till forgeworld forgot to print more decals.

No I don't own a computer, nor a printer :-)

It was a nightmare painting him white. I watered down the paint so it was little more than milk, then I added about 40+ layers. I think it came out ok.

Try GW's Ceramite white, it'll cover anything in 2-3 coats, 3-4 if watered a little. It's an absolute godsend.

Awesome. Inspiring none the least. My current army, dark angels is on the table. I do have some Blood Ravens painted up and put away. I'm thinking a themed army, but don't know where to go with them at the moment. I did play DoW 2, and if you played it, the ravens assault squads all have beaky helmets. So I did that with a 10 man jump squad. Good work. Dry brushing, I'd say you've mastered the techniques cause I can't tell. And the shoulder pads look battle worn. Awesome. Red seems to be the easiest to dry brush.

Here is the next update. I finished the Captain's torso, and the command squad. I forgot to take a picture of the captains cloak, but it is just a generic black -> dark gray wet blending.

Here is a close up of the Apothecary, Champion, and Captain from left to right.

As you can see, I tried something different with the command squad. I figured since they have a higher rank, I gave the all gold trim rather than the silver trim of the rank and file marines.

Here is the full squad. Apothecary, Champion, Captain, Banner Bearer, Veteran, Veteran, from left to right.

I am especially proud of the champions tabard work, and the details on te captain.

Looking good man. That's a nice command squad. What are you gonna arm the vets with?

This squad is going to be heavily adorned with iconography. Purity seals, scrolls, crux, etc...

Captain:

Artificer Armor

Power Mace

Plasma Pistol

Iron Halo

Apothecary:

Chainsword

Bolt Pistol

Narthecium

Champion:

Power Armor

Combat Shield

Banner Bearer:

Bolt Pistol left hand

Company Standard

Chainsword on waist

Veteran 1:

Plasma Gun

Chainsword on waist

Veteran 2:

Boltgun in right hand

Chainsword drawn

Here is the thing. From my interpretation of the rules, everything is legal, but I would greatly appreciate a second opinion.

For the captain it says: “Replace bolt pistol and/or chainsword with: power sword”. Now in the wargear section there is no specific

entry for “power sword” only “power weapon” where it states “A power weapon (typically a sword or axe, but sometimes a glaive, halberd or mace)”. So I chose to use a “power mace” instead. The definition of a mace is “A blunt weapon, a type of club or virge—that uses a heavy head on the end of a handle to deliver powerful blows.” Essentially I am using a power hammer, a type of

mace. From a rules standpoint, I would assume it to be a power sword in the shape of a hammer.

For the command squad it says: “Wargear: • Chainsword • Boltgun or bolt pistol”. I would assume this to mean that it is legal for them to carry a chainsword, AND and boltgun, and not require a bolt pistol to be coupled with the chainsword. Additionally, it says “Any Veteran may replace his chainsword and/or bolt pistol with: a plasma gun”. This leads me to believe it is OK to model my veteran with a plasma gun, and a chainsword on his waist.

Any help validating my sanity would be appreciated.

My understanding of the rules is that, yes a model CAN have a boltgun + chainsword or Plasmagun + Chainsword combo. Space marines can wield a "two-handed" weapon such as a boltgun in one hand, cuz they are awesome. Again that is simply my understanding but thats how I've had my guys kitted out and nobody has complained so I assume thats how it works.

10 Tactical squad torsos complete. The one towards the left with the two seals is the sergeant.

Looking good, I like how you've established who's the sgt with the purity seals. I made the mistake of just slapping them on to each and every model, now ruining any hopes for that.

And thanks for the CD case trick, it works so good

It has been almost a year, but I am back on the Blood Ravens painting band wagon. I apologize to anyone who was actually interested in my painting blog. I did not mean to abandon this for so long. In the year between my last post and this one I Thru-hiked a portion of the Appalachian Trail, and canoed the Delaware River from the headwaters to just past the Delaware Water Gap. In my painting off time I did some noncommissioned work for a friend on D&D miniatures, which came out great. With all that done, it is time to get back into the saddle and paint this army.

I have a few pictures to share, and more on the way. First, I finished painting the torsos of my 10 man Assault Squad. I will share a picture later with their arms complete. I think they came out OK. The straps for their backpacks look better in person. The camera kind of blew out the highlights.

Next, (and you can see them in the background of that previous pic) are my Terminators. They are shaping up to possibly be my favorite models of all time. Below is a picture of the whole group, followed by some picture showing some of their minor details.

I am happy with the lens work, and the small “V” on the purity seal for 5th Battle Company.

Next is the small raven icon on the purity seal.

Next, in the center, is "DOMINUS" sergeant of the terminator squad.

this is Battle Brother Varas with heraldry plaque on this shin.

Our last terminator isn't that special, but he has a nice crux on his leg.

That is all for now. My next update, as I mentioned earlier, will probably focus on my semi-completed assault squad. (Minus head, backpack, shoulders, and accessories. You know, nothing important.)

That's coming along nicely. I like the off-white of the pauldrons, what did You use for those?

Based with Bleached Bone, then heavily washed with Devlan Mud. then I drybrushed them with Bleached Bone to bring the base color back, and gave them a wash with heavily watered down Kommando Khaki. Last I the blacklining around the edges with strait Devlan Mud.

I enjoyed this log when it first came around and am glad to see it return. Any plans to do any characters from the Dawn of War games?

Good question. I am kind of torn on this one. On the one hand, all the characters DoW2 and it's expansions are fairly cool and memorable and worth a model. However, it is a little cheesy and moves away from the "based on" aspect, and more towards the "copied" area. I may model my captain after Gabriel Angelos though (pre bionic eye).

Update time.

I assembled the Assault Squad. Two units replaced their bolt pistols with flamers, and the captain is equipped with a shield and power fist. Here is a group shot of the torsos.

And some close ups.

I used a shoulder decal on the shield. It looked very plain without it.
