Do you think it might be better that I try reposing the legs to sort of a slow walk or just standing erect instead? I can probably try and edit the legs around. They're only connected by a bit of greenstuff, so I could give it a go.

I think he's fine in terms of posing just the way he is.  If anything, you should model different magnetizable corpses for his base based on what he's fighting and model the head looking down at the bloodied remains as if thinking:

"Really? That's the best you could do?"

I will also give That a try when I can. I haven't exactly found a helmet or head that I thought fit well enough yet. Open to suggestions.

An extremely inspiring kitbash so far! In fact, I think the pose is pretty much perfect. The one thing I would do is slightly change the right leg so it looks like he actually has that foot planted more firmly on the ground: the balance would seem a little wonky, otherwise.

 

As for the head, I'd happily suggest possible heads all day, but knowing what overall look you are going for would help: angry shouty guy? Stone cold, faceless killer? Arrogant swordsman? Disillusioned warrior god?

Depends on what kind of king, though: A barbarian, warrior king? A proud and noble king? A daemonic or monstrous king? Or, indeed, a combination of the above: a noble daemon? A proud but damned warrior?

I feel like it'd be missing something if you took it away. You could always replace it with something more important, or make the skull work for you through the fluff. The models tell stories, but never forget your talent with the pen ;)

I won't lie to you: While I agree with KBA that a full grille helm seems omninous and sinister, I also think that it might be a slightly iffy choice for a character like that, because it conveys absolutely zero personality, and personality is what you want for this guy.
