++ From the Abyss - A Word Bearers Log ++

Recommended Posts

Yay, update time! Alright guys, so first thing's first, I apologize for being so light on the updates. This new job has been making it sort of difficult for me at the moment to get any real time to model and such. On the flip side, this new job has been forking over plenty of cash so I can further my warband. Already I've purchased

2 boxes of Chaos Knights

1 box of Bloodcrushers of Khorne

1 Daemon Prince

1 Dark Apostle

1 Hell Cannon (used)

and have put in an order for both the Chaos Lord on Manticore box aswell as a Helldrake. And, with luck, next week I'll be able to fork over some cash to order a few Forge World kits. Here's to hoping. Also to add to that list, a friend of mine was getting out of Chaos to begin his Eldar army so he was selling his models for dirt cheap. So, I got myself about 17 chaos marines from the DV set, about 25 or so Cultists from the DV set, a nice pile of bitz, and 8 old metal bloodletters. Good times, I've got plenty of stuff to work with.

Ok, so some actual model updates, first I started converting an old Ultramarines Landraider. With the wondrous extra bitz I got from the Chaos Warshrine, there will be nothing that will make it seem remotely like an imperial vehicle. See for yourself.

Now, I havent done anything with the knights or bloodcrushers yet, though I will soon, but I did get started on my Daemon Prince for a bit of fun. Now, I want your opinion on this one guys. Based off of what I have so far, what do you think he should be?... Should he be a Word Bearer, a World Eater, or something completely different. Let me know what you think, give me your thoughts and your character ideas. I'd love to hear them.

The pose on the DP with the axe has a crapload of potential, man, and your greenstuff skills have developed appreciably. What are you thinking for the head? Some kind of half metal, half flesh knightly helm would be awesome.

Keep up the great work, brother.

Yaaa.... Honestly not sure what to do for the head. All of the Daemon Prince heads suck except for the one with the space marine helmet crest on the top, but I already used that head on Dhar Aq'shyash, my Night Lords Daemon Prince. So, really I'm not sure what to do for that.

Suggestions?

I've looked at that before when I was in the process of making Dhar, but honestly it looks to clunky on the Daemon Prince's body. I do have a possible idea of what I can do, though I'll have to wait until a bit later to work on him. At the same time, what do you guys think as far as origins, honestly I think the Axe pose is the one I like best, and I am actually in need for a Daemon Prince with the Axe of Blind Fury. So, if I tune up the axe a bit, add some details and such, I think it would make a good model, perhaps even making the helmet so indead of covering the mouth it covers his eyes (to add to the whole blind gimmick) but where would he fit in best in terms of fluff?....

Definitely like the axe pose. with him standing on that altar, I could definitely see a wordbearer's prince, still preaching.

I don't know the respective sizes, but if you had one of the Defiler Iron masks, could that be used with the deamon prince head?

I used the defiler faceplate without horns on the demon prince head with downward curved horns. Fits pretty nicely after shaving off the face.

haven't quite decided on that Axe yet, though it would certainly be too small for the DP. I'm thinking it might fit well on one of the terminators in the King's retinue OR maybe I'll put it on one of my Errant Knight Captains. We shall see.

Alright Noctus, are you limited by using only what you have for your DP's head or are you willing to buy bits? I'll have a look through my "inspiration" folder when I get home tonight and edit this post.  I vote for the axe, looks way better.

Edit: Still didn't answer my question. :verymad: Do you want him to show his mortal beginnings or more daemonic in nature? My ideas are a jugger head, the aforementioned defiler faceplates, a skull like head (could get something like this from the fantasy range) or perhaps modify one of the existing prince heads with some GS. Either way if theres a bit you want you can always order from a bits site!

Me again, guys. So, I've been thinking on this Khorne Daemon Prince long and hard but I just couldn't hold to anything solid in terms of fluff. He didn't quite fit with my Word Bearers and at the same time I couldn't quite see him fit with my World Eaters. In fact, I just didn't want him to be a former Space marine at all. If there's anything I love about Chaos, is how diverse and fickle it is. The greatest champion can fall to the madness of spawndom or possession while even the lowliest of wretches could come to the prowess of daemonhood all at the fickle whims of an Apathetic Pantheon. So, to celebrate such diversity, the Daemon Prince I'm making now was but a simple human upon his apotheosis and in fact, his origins were not even that of a cultist but an imperial guard, amidst the carnage that was the First War of Armageddon.

You'll have to stick around to find out why. ;)

Hail to the Ruined King, my Brothers and Sisters. It's update time again and this one will actually be quite a dozy.
I have 4 models to show today, but no fluff just yet. Well, maybe a little.

Firstly, what King Arthur would there be without his Merlin, ya? This was a thought that came from Heathens and I'm glad he thought of it because I like it too. And so we have Serekh Set, Lord Sorcerer and Equerry of the Ruined King. So essentially, Serekh is not actually a Word Bearer, though I'm certain he looks like one. He actually comes from the Thousand Sons Legion. Without going too into detail for now, Serekh and Allant formed a bond during the Great Crusade that few could match. After the razing of Prospero and the Rubrick of Ahriman, Serekh became disgusted with his Primarch and his Legion, abandoning them to find his own way. In Allant, the Thousand Son found not only a Lord worthy to rule but one who also felt betrayal and disgust in the weakness of their father. And so Serekh knelt before Alant as his eternal servant, cursing his own gene-seed Rubrick as a sign of loyalty that should he ever betray, the Rubrick will shatter and he shall devolve into a shambling monstrosity in a torrent of mutation and change.

Now, I like the model, I really do. But something seems.... Off... and I'm not sure what. Any ideas?

Next up, we have our first Horseman, my counts-as bikers. There's a great many reason for these guys. Bikers are expensive, I'm not the biggest fan of the bike designs, Horsmen are cool, blah blah blah. Regardless of the reason, I will be having a squad of 10 of these guys by the end ready to charge head long into enemy lines and crush them beneath hoof and chainsword.

Next up, our Khorne Daemon Prince is basically finished, but I didn't want to say he was done because I want your opinion, guys. Do you like him? Do you not? What could be changed?

Speaking of axe's Noctus, any plans in the works for the one that comes with the warshrine? Think it would look great on the DP or another character.

I'm glad you asked that question because now I have an answer for you. Gentlemen, meet Knight Errant Captain Gregora. Now, I do absolutely love how this guy turned out, but I'm not settled on which head I want to use for him... Which do you think?

Okay first up mate I love the daemon prince, he reminds me of a true demonic gargoyle and I can't find anything on it I don't love, next up the horseman is bloody epic I see the chapter of the ruined king more terrifying if there running down imperials on horseback rather than bikes. (All honesty I can't stand 40k bikes at all) and the sorcerer lord with the scythe is menacing and completely corrupting my mind with promises of power.... & cookies!! Last but not least the knight errant captain is a great pose I rather the first head than the second because it makes me think John Blanche style artwork and I like chaos being portrayed as featureless creatures drawn from the deepest pit of the human psyches base nature of fear! And I picture him standing over a would be enemy and offer him any last words before cutting him in twain

I like the daemon prince quite a bit. The green stuff is rough in a couple of spots. Next time you are working with it dip your tools in vegetable oil and then wipe off the excess to really smooth it all out. I would also go back and file them down with the soft side of a nail file to make the green stuff and plastic appear to be more seamless.

Jaspcat- Thanks man, glad you like the models. :) That's one vote for the first head.

Alpha- Glad you like him but I can see where you're coming from with the Greenstuff. I'll try and clean it up when I can.
