DannyJZuko
Hey gang! So, I just finished refurbishing this dreadnought. I bought it off of a friend who got out of the hobby and had to deal with a lot of excess paint on the original model. I am really happy with how this came out, but I am a little disappointed with the chunkiness caused by the old layers of paint that were on the model when I bought it. (A real idea of how the paints went on to clean plastic is on the flamer on the fist. I had removed the old stormbolter and replaced it with this heavy flamer.) Anyway, I hope y'all like it! As always, any comments or criticisms are welcome. Thanks, Danny http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac126/DannyJZuko/photo-1_zps6a65ec1a.jpghttp://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac126/DannyJZuko/image-2_zps133e7362.jpeghttp://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac126/DannyJZuko/image-4_zps234a3363.jpeghttp://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac126/DannyJZuko/image-1_zps5729554e.jpeg
shortysl
Mate, I wouldn't have any concerns about excess paintwork if that were my Dreadnought; that's a nicely painted model! If you'd said it was brand new out of the box I'd have said you'd done a great job on it but considering it's a refurbishment, that's a bloody brilliant job! Dark Apostle Thirst
The wear on the metallics are particularly nice :tu:
UltraRich
Thats a good job. You can only really notice the paint surface on the back anyway. Who added all the GS purity seals as they are a nice touch
Hyaenidae
I'd say everything above the knees kick ass. Below, you may have gone a bit overboard with the dust/weathering. A little mithril silver highlight on the upper edges of the gold wouldn't have hurt, either. Beyond that, though, great job! I'd like to see a tactical or two of yours. DannyJZuko
@shortysl - Thanks a lot, man! I really appreciate it!@Dark Apostle Thirst - Thank you! It is a pretty simple look. Paint in Leadbelcher, wash with thinned Warplock Bronze, Wash with thinned Chaos black, highight with Leadbelcher, and then edge with Mithril Silver. On the flamer I stippled a layer of Warplock and then a layer of black over top. @UltraRich - Thanks! I made the purity seals. The way that I see it, if this guy was worth being immortalized in a dreadnought, he should have collected an awful lot of purity seals. Plus, he just won me a game last night by wiping out a squad of Orks who were controlling the objective... he may need another purity seal! @1000heathens - Thank you! I initially did an edge of Mithril Silver on the gold, but didn't enjoy its look, so I washed over it. As for the weathering, I get a 50/50 love-to-hate response to it... It is a theme across my army so I am sticking with it. Though, I agree, it needs to be perfected. As for a Tac Squad... soon, my friend. Very soon! Irbis
Yeah, weathering is a bit overdone, I wasn't able to see feet and marks on shin shields at all at first. Especially seeing the base suggests barren rock, something that should produce little dust. Also, that Eldar helmet playing peek-a-book looks a bit unsettling. Maybe it should be glued at angle, resting on rock to the right?
