I, Tom de Mayo, answer the call of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete the following:

 

• 10x tactical marines with bolters (170 points)
• 4x sternguard with combi-plasma, 2x plasma guns,(190 points)
• 5x Devastors with 4x missile launchers (150 points)
• 5x Devastors with 4x missile launchers (150 points)
• Command squad with banner, meltagun, storm shield & pweapon, and plasma pistol (185)
• 1x Captain with a power sword (115)
• 1x Vulkan (190)
• 10x Scouts with camo cloaks and sniper rifles (140)

from Codex: Space Marines of total value 1315 points on or before August
15th. Success will bring eternal glory to my DIY chapter, the Vigil
Marines, and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of Shame until the
year-end.

 

Explanation: For this third vow, I intend to finish off some weapon options, mostly for my existing squads:

 

4x combi-plasma

8x missile launchers

12x marines with bolters

2x plasma guns

1x melta gun

1x chainsword and plasma pistol

1x storm shield and power weapon

1x banner bearer

1x apothecary

1x character with power sword

1x Vulkan He'stan

10x scouts with camo cloaks and sniper rifles (with the sergeant suitable to be Talon if I feel like it)

 

For purposes of my vow, I'm going to group them into some temporary units:

 

10x tactical marines with bolters

4x sternguard with combi-plasma, 2x plasma guns, 1x missile launcher

5x Devastors with 4x missile launchers

5x Devastors with 4x missile launchers

Command squad with banner, meltagun, storm shield & pweap, and plasma pistol

1x Captain with a power sword

1x Vulkan

10x Scouts with camo cloaks and sniper rifles

 

Their shoulder pads and helmet colors will match their eventual use, and thus may not entirely fit these temporary squards, but unless you're a fanatic about insignia (like I am) you probably won't even notice.  I hope that's okay.

The high points value makes it sound like more work than it is, I think. I figure 40 odd marines will require about as much time as my first vow of five vehicles. Should take less than the 40 days remaining.

 

(Conversely, that drop pod took forever to paint and was only worth 35 points...)

The mega vow is coming along nicely, all the tanks and drop pods are a wash away from done apart from the 2 raiders, the infantry are all about 2/3rds done and my hqs  sit there and glare at me waiting too be painted.

I would guess the vow will be completed within the next 2 weeks :)

If you refer to my post, it originally said "...your Codex HAVE perfectly nice drop pods" and corrected it to "...your Codex HAS perfectly nice drop pods". So a simple typo to remind everybody, including myself, that English is not my first language... :rolleyes:

I'm still working on mine, slowly but surely. A drop pod was a poor choice and sapped my motivation lol! Sternguard are practically done (I still need to take pictures of the lot). I reckon I can get the initial vow done then do some characters after (much more interesting to paint).

Yes, that's probably an error.. I saw the number 250 and didn't stop to wonder... What is the actual value of your second vow? 180?
